Chapter 9 - First day

Waking up to William's wake-up call, I quickly took a shower, got dressed, and hurried to the cafeteria for breakfast. With my stomach filled, I ran to my classroom.

Yesterday, when I found out I was placed in the same class as Leo and the other main characters, I was thrilled. Most people would want to keep their distance, but I wanted to be closer. Seeing the novel's events unfold in real life would be exciting. Sure, I was worried about demon attacks, but I could always hide while the main characters dealt with them.

Entering class A-1, I noticed a few students already forming friend groups. Sitting by the window, more students filled in. Eventually, the main characters made their grand entrance – Leo, Ray, Alissa, Amy, and Kayla. The entire classroom fell silent as all eyes fixed on them. They already knew each other well, having spent their childhood together, thanks to their powerful parents.

"Hi, may I please sit here?" a random girl asked.

"Sure," I replied, feeling hopeful for a potential friend. I introduced myself, and the girl said her name was Sarah Palin. We engaged in a lively conversation, but little did I know that Sarah was hiding her true identity. In reality, she was Sarah Windrider, an elf princess, sent undercover to observe human behavior. Only the principal and our homeroom teacher, the Crimson Witch, knew her true identity.

As the door opened, the Crimson Witch entered the room and began roll call. Leo, Ray, Alissa, Amy, and Kayla confirmed their presence, and then it was my turn. "Rank 2598, Cain Stardust," I said, but I could hear some snickers in the classroom. Now that they knew my rank, some of the young masters were going to cause trouble.

Roll call continued, and Sarah's meek response for her fake rank, 2700, left me intrigued. Afterward, we all headed to the weapons room to make our selections. Leo, Ray, Alissa, Amy, and Kayla each chose their weapons. I opted for a sword, just like Leo.

Once we reached the training grounds, Sarah went to practice with her bow, while the main characters trained together. I immersed myself in my sword practice, thanks to my trait. Time flew by, and I didn't realize how late it had become until Sarah tapped my arm, reminding me to go get dinner.

We had a meal together in the cafeteria before walking back to Noob Hall, where both of us resided. Boys and girls were separated in Noob Hall, so I shared a room with William, and Sarah shared one with another girl. As I entered the room, I found William already asleep. After taking a quick shower, I went to bed too.

The next morning, I woke up to find William gone, and he hadn't woken me up. Checking the time, I had only seven minutes left to reach class. I quickly dressed up and ran to the classroom, knowing the Crimson Witch despised tardiness.

Arriving outside the class, I could hear her doing roll call. Just in time, I shouted, "Rank 2598, Cain Stardust!"

"You're late," she said sternly.

"No, I'm not. I still had 20 seconds before I'm late," I argued.

"Whatever, just go to your seat."

Walking to my seat, I felt the stares of other students. What made it worse was that Leo was smirking at me, and for some reason, it made me uneasy. Little did I know that my journey at Renasia Academy was about to become more exciting and unpredictable.
