Chapter 12 - Climbing the Tower of Beginning (3)

As Rex, Aeliana, and Seraphine stepped into the swirling mist beyond the doors, a sudden jolt of energy coursed through their bodies. The atmosphere changed instantly, the air thick with magic and tension. A moment later, they found themselves in a dimly lit chamber, illuminated by flickering torches lining the stone walls. The room was eerily quiet, save for the sound of dripping water echoing from somewhere deep within the tower.

"Is it just me, or does it feel like we just entered a different world?" Aeliana murmured, glancing around with wide eyes.

Rex scanned the room, his instincts alert. "Stay vigilant. It's too quiet. There's bound to be a trap or some kind of ambush."

"Look over there!" Seraphine pointed towards a pedestal in the center of the room. Upon it rested a shimmering crystal, pulsing with an otherworldly light. "What do you think it is?"

"It looks like a trial stone," Rex speculated, stepping closer to examine it. "Touching it might activate a challenge or summon a guardian."

Before he could finish, Aeliana reached forward, her fingers brushing against the crystal. Instantly, the air crackled with energy, and the room transformed. The walls faded away, replaced by a vast, open arena surrounded by an endless expanse of darkness.

"Welcome, challengers, to the Trial of Strength!" boomed a voice that seemed to come from every direction at once. "Only those who prove their might will proceed to the next floor. Prepare for battle!"

Rex felt the adrenaline surge through him as figures began to materialize around them. Shadowy warriors, their forms flickering like flames, emerged from the void, swords drawn and ready for combat. They were formidable, each one emanating a powerful aura that hinted at their skill.

"Stay close!" Rex commanded, taking a defensive stance. "We need to take them down one at a time."

The shadow warriors charged, and without hesitation, Rex sprang into action, his sword slicing through the air. He felt the surge of power from Aeliana's earlier buff, amplifying his strength as he struck the first opponent. The blade connected, sending a shockwave through the warrior, but it didn't fall; instead, it retaliated with a swift counterattack.

Rex narrowly dodged, the blade whistling past his ear. "These things hit hard. Watch your backs!"

Aeliana and Seraphine positioned themselves beside him, ready to engage. Aeliana raised her hands, channeling energy as she cast another buff. "Rex, I'm boosting your defense! You'll take less damage!"

"Thanks!" Rex shouted, feeling the energy envelop him like a protective shield. With renewed resolve, he unleashed a flurry of attacks, targeting the nearest shadow warrior. He struck with precision, his movements fluid and powerful, fueled by the confidence of his allies.

Seraphine, meanwhile, remained a step behind, casting her own spells to weaken their foes. "I'll make sure their debuffs don't affect you, Rex! You can handle them!"

"Just focus on keeping us alive!" Rex shot back, his voice cold and commanding. He was grateful for their support, but he knew they needed to rely on themselves in this trial.

As they fought, Rex activated his True Vision skill once more, scanning the status windows of the shadow warriors. Their stats flashed before his eyes, revealing their strengths and weaknesses. "They're faster than regular enemies, but they're vulnerable to light-based attacks!"

"Light attacks? That's not really my forte," Aeliana admitted, glancing around for an option.

"Then use your buffs strategically!" Rex ordered. "If we can't hurt them directly, we can at least make ourselves stronger."

With renewed determination, Aeliana nodded and focused on empowering Rex even further. "I'll amplify your attack speed and critical hit chance!"

Rex felt the surge of energy, his reflexes sharpening as he moved with blinding speed. He struck at the nearest shadow warrior, landing a series of blows that culminated in a devastating critical hit. The warrior disintegrated into wisps of darkness, leaving nothing but a faint echo of its presence.

"Keep it up!" Rex shouted, invigorated by their progress. He quickly switched targets, his eyes locked on another warrior. He dodged its attack with ease and returned fire, his sword slicing through the air as he executed a series of rapid strikes.

The arena echoed with the sounds of battle, their teamwork proving effective as they systematically dismantled the shadow warriors one by one. With each defeated foe, Rex felt a sense of accomplishment, but also a growing awareness that this was just the beginning.

"Rex! Behind you!" Seraphine cried out, but it was too late; a shadow warrior had crept up behind him, its blade raised high.

With a swift motion, Rex activated his Infinite Buff skill, enhancing his own resilience and reflexes at that crucial moment. He spun around just in time, blocking the attack with his sword and pushing back against the warrior's weight.

"Nice try, but you'll have to do better than that!" Rex taunted, channeling his energy as he slashed upward, cleaving through the shadow warrior's defenses.

Aeliana and Seraphine moved in, flanking the last few remaining warriors. Together, they coordinated their attacks, combining Aeliana's buffs with Seraphine's protective spells to maximize their effectiveness.

As the last shadow warrior fell, a triumphant cheer erupted from the trio. The arena began to dissolve, the darkness retracting to reveal the familiar pedestal once more.

"Trial of Strength complete!" the booming voice announced, echoing in the chamber. "You have proven your might. As a reward, each of you will receive a Skill Point to enhance your abilities."

Rex felt a rush of satisfaction. "Skill Points. Finally, something we can use to grow stronger."

"Let's use them wisely," Aeliana said, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "This tower will only get tougher from here."

Rex nodded, his mind already racing with possibilities. He could enhance his skills or perhaps unlock new abilities that would give him the upper hand against whatever lay ahead.

As they approached the pedestal, Rex felt the familiar tingling sensation of power coursing through him. "Now, let's see what this tower has in store for us."

With renewed purpose, they gathered their rewards and prepared to ascend the next floor of the Tower of the End, knowing that each step would bring them closer to the ultimate challenges that awaited them.
