It’s not easy navigating an unknown territory where people already have a vague idea of who you are, better yet, who you’re pretending to be. Agreeing to be Mr. Hixon’s girlfriend was a major mistake and yet, here I was by his side, smiling and mingling with the various people we were introduced to during the party. Even as we ate, I kept my felt grin in place as his parents and his sister, who I was mad at because she knew about this from the beginning.
