"Billie," a light knock resonated from Benedito's and mine's bedroom suite as I was quickly changing Danilo's little diaper. The boy produced a stench so foul I was sure a cow would have fainted back home if he got a whiff of it.
I turned my head slightly not to give Danilo the chance to suddenly roll over and ruin everything. Ma stood in the door pregnant as ever in a pink baby doll dress and bunny slippers. Her hair was still as large and curly as ever that I was sure Dolly Parton would have been jealous. Ma was always the definition of beauty even if it looked like if she sneezed too hard my little brother would come walking out.
"You ain't meant to be on your feet," I stressed then indicated she should sit on one of the wingback chairs in front of the large window that had a perfect view of Florence. She gave me a gentle smile then sat down with a huff as I was finishing off with Danilo.
