I jog through the corridor, frustrated.
"Aah! Why!" I stop in my tracks, not knowing my next step.
I hear footsteps grow louder behind me and a voice slowly reaching me," Bruster...?"
I turn my head around to see a panting Emilia stop right in front of me.
"What was that? What did you find out?" She questions me, a puzzled look on her face clearly showing her obliviousness to the situation.
"You don't know me, stay away!" I shout at Emilia, as my mind runs haywire.
"What part of me doesn't know you Bruster? I know your skills, your judgements in normal situations, intense situations. I know what a fool you are."
"You don't know the lie do--" I stop my tongue.
Shit.
"Lie? Bruster, I ain't sitting here, oblivious to everything, so tell me what you know."
I tell her, helpless," Samuel admitted Julian and me into the CIAH, right?"
She nods.
"But do you know anything about us from before?" I ask.
" Well, Julian was the son of the well known mob boss, Tony Marconi but you--" Emilia stops in her tracks, not able to find the words.
"Yes?" I reply.
"You-- Your file was-- blank.. No history of past records whatsoever." Emilia finishes, now looking at me in an unsure way.
"I am a failing detective now, Emilia... in the CIAH." I respond.
" Yeah, that's very much a known fact."
" That's because I was never trained to be smart, Emilia. I was trained to--to--to" I start stuttering. The truth not wanting to come out.
"To do what?" Emilia asks, concerned.
"To--to--TO Kill! Emilia, I was not a detective, I was a killer. A mercenary."
"My speciality is in killing, not finding." I end.
" So, what--is there a relation between you and Julian..?" She asks, nervous.
"Yes, in those days, as mercenaries. I was his tutor... ."
I continue," His father, hired me to teach his son the ways of killing. He wanted him to be capable, efficient and unstoppable."
"And I made him that. Ruthless training. I could see the pain in Julian's eyes, every single day. His training sparked something in me."
"A desire to be free..."
Emilia stops me," And the rest is history. Julian ran away. You left the organization. But both of you came here, wanting to forge a new future, a new life."
"Until Julian wants to return back." She continues.
"No, It's not Julian's fault. He was controlled. And there.. there, you threatened him. I am telling you we have to leave him, he is just a controlled pawn." I tell Emilia.
Emilia retorts," But then, who do we go after--?"
"The Boss."
Emilia looks up at me. A spark in her eyes.
We both speak in unison.
"Tony Marconi".
