I took a sharp breath as the wall of fire fell, and I saw my beloved lying on the ground. His head turned towards me, the spark in his eyes gone and now glazed over. His mouth slightly opened. There was no denying his death.
Just like before.
But this time…there was no going back.
His body didn't burn into ashes to fly into the wind.
No matter how long I waited, he wouldn't come back.
I took a step forward. The wind around me was still. All sound was gone. All there was was the lifeless corpse of the man I love in front of me and the still air.
I reached my hand out, and as my fingertip touched his now cooling skin, it was as if the world had fallen into a sudden rush. The wind rushed around me, taking everything and everyone with it.
The silence was filled with screams of terror followed by the cries of the wind.
In a matter of seconds, the world fell into silence once again. Footsteps could be heard from far away.
