♦ Topic: New Kaiju, Teostra's First (and Final) Attack

In: Boards ► Kaiju Attacks

Posted On Jul 18th 2048:

Normally, I'm sad when I have to write one of these, it's always unfortunate to be the bearer of bad news after all and it can be demoralising to write about a Kaiju attack and how much damage they've done this time.

This time, I'm not sad, I'm happy, hell, I'm overjoyed.

Because I get to report that while a new Kaiju appeared, it also fell during the attack. An attack that has the fewest casualties on record for Kaiju attacks.

Teostra (the name supplied by Kaito, the monster tamer), was a massive monster that looked like a mixture of a lion and a dragon, with an aura that ignited the area around it and the ability to breathe fire hot enough to melt people, and it arrived less than a mile away from Endeavor's Agency building and immediately set off towards it, setting the city on fire as it moved. It was small for a Kaiju, being merely truck sized instead of building sized.

[TeostraPic] [TeostraInFlight] [TeostraAndEndeavor]

Unfortunately, while Endeavor and his Sidekicks responded immediately, Teostra proved to be the worst possible match for Endeavor and even as more heroes and villains arrived to fight the beast, nothing seemed to do any significant damage to it (for reasons that became clear later).

The reinforcements from U.A arrived, and with them came someone incredibly important to this battle, Kaito.

If you've been paying attention to the new monster research breakthrough you'll know about Kaito, a soon-to-be U.A student who has the power to tame monsters, and, well that's apparently just the start of what he can do.

Kaito, upon arriving was said to have spent some time just watching the fight, before he announced over the communicator that Teostra was healing by absorbing the flames and that it got stronger the hotter the area.

Despite him being a student, his advice was listened to immediately as the fire-using heroes were pulled back and out on search and rescue (including Endeavor himself), and people focused on putting out the fires.

The Water Hose duo and Hellish Blizzard were especially effective at putting out the fires.

Meanwhile, Kaito made his next move and sent one of his monsters, Primeape, into the battle who was carrying Kaito's now rather famous monster, Blue, in a water bottle.

[PrimeapeAndBlueVsTeostra]

Primeape did 'die' during this attack, specifically after it leapt from a window on the fifteenth floor of Endeavor's tower in a kamikaze attack on Teostra, taking out one of the Kaiju's eyes with a pipe it had found (Kaito confirmed that Primeape is fine, his monsters don't truly die unless he does).

During this, Kaito himself had left the battlefield to join the search and rescue efforts, reported to personally save dozens of people with his new monster, Shaymin, including Burnin who was presumed dead after a bad hit earlier on, thanks to Shaymin's ability to heal.

[KaitoAndShaymin]

Somehow, despite being focused on search and rescue, Kaito was still watching the battlefield and warning people as he learnt more about Teostra's abilities.

With one eye gone, the heroes actually managed to push Teostra back (especially All Might and Mirko), and Kaito was able to warn them when Teostra was about to explode, allowing the fighters to fall back.

With the space, Teostra flew over the heroes and headed directly to the evacuation/gathering point, attempting to take out the civilians and support heroes in a final blast.

Unfortunately for Teostra, Blue hitched a ride and when Teostra attempted to self-destruct, Blue engulfed it and took the majority of the blast himself.

[Blue'sSacrifice]

The now-enraged Teostra attempted to kill the reforming Blue, who took advantage of the beast's rage and leapt into its open mouth.

Teostra's scales were incredibly tough, but Blue discovered that monster or not, Teostra needed to breathe.

From within, Blue suffocated Teostra who was unable to dislodge him, slaying the Kaiju and ending the attack.

That would normally be enough, but Kaito had one last surprise in store as he arrived at the site of Teostra's explosion, and when Shaymin realised the person it was trying to heal was dead, it had Kaito carry it to the middle of the crater and hold it up, unleashing a golden light which both healed every injury it touched

and raised the fucking dead.

Some of the casualties were confirmed to be deceased, but Shaymin brought them back. Shaymin has been confirmed to be a Legendary monster, and I can certainly see why.

This move caused Shaymin to collapse from exhaustion, fading into golden light (though again Shaymin has been confirmed to be fine and will recover).

I thought Mt Lady's debut was impressive, but I think Kaito and his monsters might have just blown her out of the water, especially when you consider that he's not even started at U.A yet.

On behalf of the entire world, thank you to everyone who took part in this battle, for showing that those monsters can be stopped without such massive losses as we faced before.

Let's fucking go!

Though as good as this is, we literally had a Kaiju attack a week ago, why was there another already? They usually have a month or so between attacks.

►HereandGone (Resident Monster Expert)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Usually but not always, we still don't know what causes Kaiju attacks but while it's rare for two known Kaiju to attack in close proximity, new Kaiju don't follow that convention.

We've had a new Kaiju show up on the very same day that another Kaiju was attacking elsewhere before, unfortunately we just don't know enough about monsters to understand why they do what they do.

Hopefully Kaito is going to help us change that.

As good as this victory is, I'm really not sure whether taking a teenager who hasn't even started his hero schooling into a Kaiju battle was a good idea, especially one who is so important to learning more about the monsters.

►Midnight (Pro Hero) (U.A Staff)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Trust me, it wasn't done lightly and it only happened because Kaito insisted and was able to convince Principal Nezu.

You'll notice that in the videos, Kaito is never anywhere near Teostra, he wasn't even supposed to go into the city for search and rescue, but he's apparently not good at sitting still and slipped out while people were understandably distracted.

Shaymin could apparently sense the fear of the trapped civilians, and convinced Kaito to go look for them.

►HereandGone (Resident Monster Expert)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Actually, while you're here…

I can't help but notice in some of the videos that you had a monster of your own (an Ekans, given that I recognise it from Kaito's monster journal), how did that happen?

►Midnight (Pro Hero) (U.A Staff)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Kaito gave it to me. He can tell a monster to listen to someone else and I was the first to get one.

Ekans wasn't much use against Teostra for obvious reasons but he was surprisingly useful at locating people during search and rescue (and he's been very useful on my patrols).

Just a heads up, since I can already see what's gonna happen, Kaito is very picky about who he gives monsters to and there's a limited amount of monsters since he has to tame them first.

Don't expect him to just give them to anyone.

►bothad

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Even if he just gives them to people he trusts, that's still a massive win right?

Monsters can't actually 'die', so there's no real risk in them fighting Kaijus, clearing dungeon or taking part in dungeon breaks.

Just look at how good Blue and Primeape were against Teostra.

►Thatdude

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Ugh, the Slimers are gonna be unbearable now that Blue has killed a Kaiju.

My boi Primeape deserves more of the credit, did you see that dive bomb? While he was on fire no less?

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

When did the Kaito's monsters get fan clubs?

More importantly, does Shaymin have one?

Seriously, Blue suffocating a Kaiju was amazing, but Shaymin raised the fucking dead.

I feel like that goes way beyond anything the others showed.

Unfortunately, my sources have found out that Shaymin expended an immense amount of energy to do that and she gets the energy back much slower.

She might be able to repeat the act eventually but it won't be anytime soon, of course that isn't stopping people from sending hundreds of requests and demands for certain people to be resurrected.

I don't know how long the 'cool-down' is, but I suspect that Kaito is going to have to be extremely picky about who he resurrects, and it's going to leave a lot of people very unhappy.

One day we're going to find who your sources are, we only finished the meeting an hour ago.

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

You're not wrong.

Everyone will want a piece of Kaito and Shaymin, even if Shaymin could do it once a day that's still leave hundreds of people unhappy at not being picked

Can't Kaito just tame another Shaymin?

►Kaito (Hero in Training) (Kaiju Slayer)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

No, Shaymin is a Legendary rank monster.

I highly doubt I'll ever find another like her. There might be some other monsters out there with resurrection powers, but that's something to be discovered later I guess.

Shaymin is the Gratitude Pokémon (still not entirely sure what a Pokémon is, a type of monster I think), she gets more energy the more grateful people are to her (which is probably why she has a non-violent nature). Basically, you want her to be able to heal faster? Better start thanking my adorable little hedgehog buddy.

Also, have a pic of Shaymin eating.

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Kaito, a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Do you have a hero name? You've just had the biggest hero debut in history, but we still don't know what to call you.

How do you plan to handle the requests for Shaymin's resurrection powers? As well as requests for you to take place in every Kaiju attack?

What are you planning on doing yourself now that you've got your newfound renown?

►Kaito (Hero in Training) (Kaiju Slayer)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Nah, I'm just going by Kaito for now.

Maybe something like Keeper, since I've got a whole zoo. Fuck if I know, I'll work it out later.

As for the requests?

Every Kaiju attack isn't exactly reasonable since they're all over the world and even if I spent all my time sitting on my hands waiting for them, I probably wouldn't make it to most of them anyway.

If I can get there in time, I'm down. I doubt the teachers would agree but fuck em, maybe I should look for a monster that can teleport?

As for Shaymin, I'm probably gonna push that mess onto Nezu because I don't want to deal with it and it's his fault for recruiting me into U.A in the first place. Even I don't know what Shaymin's cool-down is, or if Shaymin can resurrect a single person without you know… fucking dying.

That move is basically the ultimate sacrifice, it's just lucky my power negates a lot of the risk, but Shaymin still gets put to sleep for a good long while.

As for me? I'm going to U.A, to spend some time training my monsters and making them stronger, exploring dungeons and finding new monsters to tame, I don't see why suddenly being popular would change my plans.

I have a question! Why did you give Midnight a monster first?

►Kaito (Hero in Training) (Kaiju Slayer)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Because I like her, she's also the one I've spent the most time with since I arrived here.

Plus, it's kinda a test to see how it goes? I know they're monsters, but they're my monsters and I won't let them get abused by some asshole.

I trust Midnight and she's treated Ekans well, so when I get more monsters I'll consider giving the other heroes one, maybe my classmates as well.

►PinkandProud (Hero in Training)

You might give classmates a monster, huh?

Well, that's very good to know, future classmate!

Kaito, you agree that Primeape is the coolest of your monsters, right?

The guy didn't even care that he was on fire!

►Kaito (Hero in Training) (Kaiju Slayer)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

He's pretty cool, but also it wasn't that he didn't care.

Primeape is just too dumb and angry to notice he was on fire, he's got a single brain cell and all it wants is to punch things.

I'm actually gonna try and tame some Mankeys to join him in his exhibit, either he'll calm down or he'll get angrier.

Either way it should be pretty funny.

Small question, why did Endeavor not notice that he was healing the Kaiju?

He's a pro hero with years of experience, and he didn't notice that he was healing the damage the other heroes were risking their lives to do?

►Space Zombie

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Lol, the biggest contribution Endeavor did was leaving the fight.

Did anyone else notice that he didn't even take part in the search and rescue? The man just sulked at the evacuation point after Kaito told him to fuck off and stop healing Teostra.

►Valkyr (Wiki Warrior)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

That's not quite fair, this was just a really poor match-up for him.

Though he probably should have paid more attention, it's kinda shitty that the entire first half of the fight was basically pointless because he just kept healing Teostra.

Also, making a wiki-page for Teostra and being able to immediately put its status as 'deceased' was a pretty good feeling lmao.

►Burnin (Pro Sidekick)

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Oi, you try noticing Teostra was healing when the fucker didn't even seem to be taking damage in the first place.

There were dozens of heroes there and nobody noticed that Teostra was healing.

Also, Kaito, I seriously owe you my life, we didn't get to talk much when you pulled my ass out of the rubble but I know that blow would have killed me if you and Shaymin hadn't saved me.

So yeah, I owe you big time, you need anything just ask, I've DM'd you my number.

If you don't need anything, message me anyway, because I definitely need to thank you and I'm sure we can find a way~

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Heh, I've sent you a message.

If nothing else I could use someone to come to the dungeons with me, apparently I'm 'not allowed' to just go on my own.

You're welcome, it'd be a damn shame to let the world lose such a hot piece of ass.

I got lucky, sure.

Doesn't mean you can't hit the gym, think of creative ways to use your quirk, learn how to fight with a weapon.

I didn't get these muscles because of my quirk, I earned these with blood and sweat, and you think I'd still get laid as easily if I looked like a bean sprout?

Besides, even if you don't wanna become a hero, being in shape could save your life if you get caught up in a dungeon break/Kaiju attack or even a villain attack.

Replied On Jul 18th 2048:

Preach, brother.

Everyone should stay in shape, this world is too dangerous to let yourself get fat.

Sitting at her desk, Fubuki skimmed the rapidly updating thread, watching as news spread of Teostra's defeat.

It was a win they needed, even if people had already realised that Teostra was on the weaker side of the Kaiju scale, and Kaito's fame had skyrocketed.

Some people even joked that he should have Endeavour's spot as the number four hero since Endeavour had well and truly fucked up.

Some of her people had died to try and fight Teostra, and it turned out that it was all for nothing, that everything they fought to do was immediately undone by Endeavour, that the entire fight was harder because half the fires that were empowering Teostra were caused by Endeavour himself.

People were going over the fight frame by frame, combing over every picture and video of the battle and analysing every tiny detail with even more intensity than normal, wanting to record every single detail of the first true Kaiju defeat.

She didn't count the other slain Kaiju as a real victory since the entire city was destroyed and almost all the heroes involved died.

Kaito had risen to heights beyond anyone in his age group, there were heroes who had been active for decades who would kill to have half his fame.

She would kill for his popularity, and her own star (and the star of the Blizzard group) had risen from the fight, from the Blizzard group's fast response (which she'd carefully planned for, making sure she could gather her heroes quickly and had transport waiting for emergencies), and from her own actions in putting out the flames.

But her fame paled in comparison to Kaito's. Some were even calling Kaito 'the Symbol of Victory'. The human personification of humanity's ability to emerge victorious over the monsters, sharing a title that put him on even grounds with All Might himself.

As a student. It was ridiculous, of course, but the public saw Kaito as the much needed saviour, the champion to defend them against the monsters. In truth it was simple desperation, after years of watching heroes die to the Kaiju, of losing cities to dungeon breaks, they saw someone who stepped up and actually won, instead of just mitigating the damage and claiming that was a victory.

That wasn't to say she was bitter, quite the opposite, she owed Kaito. There were seventeen Blizzard group heroes and sidekicks who were only alive because of Kaito and Shaymin.

She knew her group had a mixed reputation, most of the heroes under her weren't exactly impressive, she could admit that, they were all middle-tier heroes who probably wouldn't be anyone if they weren't in her group. They had average quirks and skill, but they were her people and losing that many was painful, so even she felt her heart soar when Shaymin performed her miracle.

If Kaito continued, he would probably surpass her sister as the number two hero before he even graduated from U.A, as long as he could continue to deliver, and stop the public from turning on him, feeling betrayed at his 'failure'.

If he had even the most mediocre PR agent, he'd be set for life.

Even things that she thought people would dislike, such as his clear affection for his monsters, were seen as signs of the softer side underneath the barbaric exterior.

Some people were demanding that Kaito give monsters out to every hero, but they were mostly ignored for now, as the public loved the idea that he'd only give monsters to those he didn't think would mistreat them, but then of course they did when his monsters weren't bloody thirsty killers but cute or funny animals that you could watch in its habitat whenever you wanted.

Opening the stream, she huffed in amusement at the sheer viewer count on Shaymin's stream, and all the legendary monster was doing was running around its habitat and sniffing the flowers.

She could set up a livestream of her perspective fighting villains or clearing dungeons and she wouldn't get a quarter of those views.

So, with Kaito inevitably surpassing her in popularity without even trying, seemingly uncaring about his reputation (which only helped it oddly enough), how could she take advantage of him to boost her own star?

She briefly dreamed of getting Kaito to join the Blizzard group, but that was an impossible dream. Everyone wanted Kaito, she could offer every single thing she had, including her body, and it would pale in comparison to the offers he'd be getting from hero teams, governments, and god knows who else.

So, how else could she make use of him?

The obvious answer was to get him to give her people monsters, the Blizzard group's effectiveness would rise rapidly if they had a bunch of tamed monsters, her eyes flickering to the image of Midnight with a giant purple snake coiled around her arm. Just having a monster was a sign that the newest legend approved of you, it would boost your reputation by association alone, even disregarding the power boost.

She'd make sure her people took care of the monsters, she couldn't have Kaito seeing one of his beloved monsters being abused and become antagonistic towards the Blizzard group after all, that would be a nightmare.

But she needed to find a way to get him to agree to give them monsters in the first place? When everyone would be clamouring for the same thing?

She was just one voice in the large crowd that would be begging for his attention, and even getting to him would be a problem since Nezu seemed to be planning on hiding him away in U.A. (very wisely in her opinion).

But then, she was a U.A. graduate, she had connections she could call on to try and get close to Kaito, but she'd need to work on her sales pitch beforehand.

Kaito seemed like a very simple man from everything she'd gathered, and that wasn't an insult, she could appreciate his simpler desires.

Sitting in her office, she studied every post he made, every video and picture she could get of him, making her plan.

— Enji Todoroki (Endeavour) —

Sitting in his office, he glared at the message from the Hero Association, the spiritual successor of the Hero Public Safety Commission.

Number seven.

He was the number seventh most popular hero now, after the mess with Teostra.

Some heroes would be overjoyed to be in the top ten, they weren't him. He'd once held the second place, pursuing his dream of dethroning All Might, then he was kicked out of the top three by Tornado and Silverfang.

Now he wasn't even in the top five, Hawks, Best Jeanist and Mirko had all surpassed him, and Hawks and Jeanist hadn't been at the fight.

His extremely public mistake was being shared around the world, the hero who spent most of the fight helping the Kaiju. Beyond that, every mistake he'd ever made, real or imagined, was now being dragged into the open for all to scorn.

They claimed he made too much collateral damage, that if he didn't have a habit of setting the area alight when he fought, Teostra wouldn't have been so much trouble to deal with.

As if anyone stopped to consider the surroundings during a Kaiju fight, you couldn't hold back like that against those beasts and he'd never hurt an ally with his flames.

Even their beloved All Might tended to demolish the buildings around him when he fought, and nobody ever called him out on it.

Hell, that brat Tornado would use the buildings as projectiles, ripping them out of the ground and throwing them at the enemies.

But the public loved to watch a hero fall from grace, and now they smelled blood in the water, years of work was undone in a single day. It didn't matter that he had the most Kaiju fights on record out of anyone, that he'd cleared hundreds of dungeons and participated in more dungeon breaks than anyone else, a single mistake was all the public needed.

Pausing, he saw that phrase again.

The Symbol of Victory.

Kaito would skyrocket in fame from this, slaying a Kaiju before he was even out of school? The entire world watched him with bated breath, praying he would be the one to deliver them from the threats that plagued them.

Some people 'jokingly' suggested Kaito should take his place, while he went back to U.A. to learn how to fight properly.

But he wouldn't let this stop him, his dream was unchanged, he would become the number one hero, and he'd found just the tool to help him achieve that.

Kaito, the monster tamer. Midnight had found great success with her new pet, videos of Ekans paralysing criminals with its glare had already surfaced.

There were some incredibly powerful monsters out there, he of all people knew that, he'd fought legions of them, how far could Kaito's abilities take him?

Given the show of power from Shaymin, very far indeed, so the better question was how to convince the boy to join him.

The boy probably had hundreds of requests for him as a sidekick already, and even more for monsters or access to Shaymin's resurrection powers (because nobody would bother to listen to the warning that Shaymin couldn't replicate that deed anytime soon).

Burnin seemed to have started making connections with him, he'd be impressed at her foresight if he didn't know she was just enamoured with her saviour, but it worked out all the same.

In addition, Shouko would be in his year at U.A. Hopefully in the same class, but he doubted his daughter would be willing to help with his ambitions given her dislike of him.

He could work with this, he just needed to work out what made Kaito tick.
