The stats of the creature were displayed in the menu of my clones. I could read them through their eyes.
"Do not look it directly in the eyes! Direct eye contact can cause instant death! Indirect eye contact can cause petrification!" I ordered my clones and read the stats recorded in their menus.
"BASILISK STAT: IMMORTAL!" I read.
"Hmm, I guess HP depletion by normal attacks won't work then huh?" I said.
"Seems so" one of my clones replied.
"STRENGTHS: KILLER GAZE/FATAL BREATH! WEAKNESSES: BASILISK FANG/VENOM, BASILISK REFLECTION, PHOENIX TEARS, BLAZE!" I read the creature's stats.
"I see. This is the sort of boss that cannot be harmed through physical attacks or any other attack except for attacks that are superior to its affinities huh?" I reasoned.
"Seems so" one of my clones said.
"The proverbial Shield Of Perseus is one of its natural weaknesses. The irony of the very fact. We'll have to take ancient myths a bit more seriously from now on" I said.
"For now, we'll have to find a way to fend off its attacks until we can break off one of its fangs. Avoid bites at all costs!" I shouted directives.
"We should keep our eyes glued to its lower body…I'd like to say that except for the fact that I'm very certain this creature as ancient as it is won't be foolish enough to keep its head elevated throughout the battle" one of my clones said.
"Actually, it will. This creature has another weakness not officially recorded in any of the History Books. Its own foolish pride. I doubt it will bow to any of us and that...is its greatest vulnerability. Keep your eyes glued to its lower body. Track its attacks and lunges via short bursts of sound in the surrounding wind and bushes!" I warned everyone.
"I never knew you were this skilled a hunter" one of my clones said.
"Neither did I" I said with a smirk.
Whenever the Basilisk slithered throughout the area, long continuous sounds were produced by its movements through the bushes and trees. Whenever it lunged at us, there was a break in the continuous sound and an amplification of a short, sudden burst of sound. By observing its lower body, we could gauge the range its raised body had and by listening to the sounds of wind resistance generated by a lunge, we could evade it by leaping out of the way with our superior speed.
"For now, let's familiarize ourselves with the rhythm of its attacks" I advised my clones.
For a while, we just focused on evading the lunges of the Basilisk.
"Hmm, something doesn't quite sit right with this whole scenario" one of my clones said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Spiders flee before it. That sounds like quite the clue. Think about it. This creature is practically immortal and cannot be harmed by anything except for its own attacks or an affinity superior to its own. This isn't so much a battle to beat it by reducing its HP through attacks as it is to find an affinity superior to its own" my clone said.
"Then there is the connotation of a food chain as displayed in the evolved Libra System. If Spiders flee before this creature, then Spiders rank lower than this creature within the food chain, implying that attacks via Weaving can probably not harm this creature. On the other hand, the venom of this creature though almost incurable can only be nullified via the tears of a Phoenix. Phoenixes are symbols of rebirth so they can basically beat even Death itself. Thus on the food chain, Phoenixes rank higher than this creature. Every animal in nature possesses some form of natural adversary so there isn't any one creature that permanently ranks at the top of the food chain" I said.
My clones agreed.
"That is true. For serpents, two of their most predominant natural foes are birds of prey and felines" one of my clones said.
"Birds of prey…" I thought about what my clone said.
"And the legendary shield of Perseus defeated Medusa when Perseus used it to avert a direct gaze from the Gorgon and thus track her location without actually watching her" another clone said.
"Get shield, beat Medusa. Get Medusa's head, down Kraken. Down Kraken, save Andromeda. Perseus is rewarded for his bravery by becoming a Star!" I opened my eyes in sudden realization.
"This Basilisk is one foolish creature! Hey! At least stick to one target! First it was Old Billy Bones, now it's Harry Bane?!" I roared in anger.
"What do you mean?" one of my clones asked.
"In one of my Dad's fairy tales, there was this guy named Harry Bane from the Suzaku Peristylium. His clan's symbol was the Gryphon…and you know what a Gryphon is don't you?" I said with a smirk.
"Yes…it is a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle" one of my clones replied.
"I'm going to attempt something foolish so you guys…try not to die okay?" I pleaded.
"You idiot! That's one of Harry Bane's most renowned lines!" a clone of mine roared.
"Yeah…right before he came up with a new hissatsu waza" I said with a smirk.
I whistled.
"Hey Basilisk! Over here!" I called.
It turned its attention to me and charged in to attack. I sidestepped just before its attack landed and gave that poor old Basilisk a lariat right in the dentals. Both of its fangs fell to the ground.
"FOOL! ARE YOU THAT DETERMINED TO DIE?!" one of my clones yelled.
"I think Mom has ever done something similar in the past right before her party confronted Despair. Ironically, I think one of the mythological serpents she confronted said exactly the same thing. I appreciate your concern though. Besides…if this creature's bite was fatal to us, I should be dead by now shouldn't I?" I said with a smirk.
My clones looked at my bleeding arm. My wounds had begun to heal. I accessed the Leo System. It had evolved into the 'Leo System Ver. Extra-Sensors'. A new notification popped up.
"When utilized in battle, the Leo System scans hidden enemy and ally traits including strengths and weaknesses" the message read.
I scanned the Basilisk.
"BASILISK SECONDARY WEAKNESSES/NATURAL FOES: BIRDS OF PREY/FELINES" was a report of the stats.
I analyzed them via my clones' eyes while continuously evading the Basilisk's attacks. I quickly picked up its fangs while performing a reverse somersault just as a follow up attack from the Basilisk rammed its face into the ground after it missed me.
"You're not getting Eve this time, she's way busy evading your attacks…of that I assure you yet somehow, I'm still quite certain that…on your belly you shall crawl" I said with a smirk and waved its fangs in front of its face. "Now scan me with the Taurus System!" I ordered my clones.
They obeyed.
"Huh? What's this?" they seemed surprised.
"What is it?" I asked.
"SANZIRI NIGHTBANE (JUNIOR) STATS: DREAM KNIGHT HOUSE: HOUSE OF LIONS (SPECIAL EFFECT: CAN INFLICT PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO BASILISK/CAN SUPPRESS BASILISK ABILITIES). AFFILIATION: SUZAKU PERISTYLIUM (SPECIAL EFFECT: IMMUNE TO BASILISK VENOM/RAPID REGENERATION). FUSION OF SUZAKU PERISTYLIUM WITH HOUSE OF LIONS GRANTS ADDITIONAL STAT: COMPLETE INVULNERABILITY TO BASILISK'S ATTACKS!" one clone read.
"LONG LIVE GRYFFINDOR!" I yelled in excitement. "So…my ancient archnemesis. It appears the tables have finally turned. I am now completely invulnerable to your attacks…while you on the other hand…my friend are now allergic to your own attacks" I said with a smirk and crouched.
"If we ever do meet again…which I doubt by the way…please don't be foolish enough to invade XCalibur AOP!" I roared and in a flash I disappeared and crushed its head by nailing it to the ground with its own fangs.
"INTEGRATED SIGNS VER. LIBRA, LEO AND TAURUS COMPLETE!" I said as I dusted my hands and turned around. "Like Shang Tsung once said…FLAWLESS VICTORY!" I said as my clones disappeared.
"K.O!" my Dad's voice sounded.
