Chapter 9 - 101 AC - Passing of a Generation

[PoV: Aegor Targaryen]

I Roade once more on my companions back, Aurrax. For the years that has past since bonding with him has been extremely tense. Never have I ever had peace since my grandmother had passed.

Since my aunt Gael died from unknown reason, she grew worst in condition, the life drew away from her. The smile I would see playing alongside her for the sake of my niece, was no more.

That ached me. I didn't know her as much as my father or grandfather yet the pain of losing my only grandmother hurt. In the next life I would see her but for now, as long as I lived on the future of the house were as utmost paramount.

I will not lose Viserys, Rhaenyra, Aemma and even him, my duties to keep the family was more important. Before I didn't think of the sacrifices that will be afflicted from merely being a dragon rider but almost like something woken me up.

I know now, the power behind bonding with Aurrax meant not all good signs, I will have to snuff life from many future people. My dream of saving people, now came at a cost.

*Chuckle*

It left my mouth, a small resigned chuckle, Ser Ryam Redwyne helped me to understand the inevitable future.

"A Knights duty is to protect no matter the action. Setting aside your own life for another despite reason was what made you a Knight of the seven Kingdom. Your future will be different, faced to protect family instead of others, if innocent or guilty."

I will do it, severe heads from bodies and spit on death, if the very reason meant saving my loved ones. Rhaenyra, Aemma, Viserys and sometimes even that cunt. I would never say it to his arrogant face though.

The wind eased him, my arms were wide embracing it's heavenly gush of wind flowing my hair. When times like this, when my mind overwhelmed me, riding alongside Aurrax gave a calming feeling.

Patting Aurrax, I hummed a melody both myself and the temperamental dragon in a eased sensation. His flapping wings giving a ever pleasing sound in his ears.

When I looked below to King's landing, I saw the beauty that was once envisioned by Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters. The horrific smell of it not reaching me helped extremely. To not gag away from the sight.

As time passed, I knew my duties demanded me back towards the red keep, he wanted to stay up here yet not all things went his way.

Aurrax slowly descended down towards the main large gait of the Dragon pit. When they came in view to the landing, awaiting him was to no surprise Laena, Alicent and Rhaenyra with her mother, Aemma near a carriage.

Fust of dirt came from beneath him and Aurrax. Patting his back, I looked at the dragon that would stay with me until either of us died and said softly.

"Ȳdra daor jikagon hurting people skori nyke henujagon, īlon've already spoke nūmāzma aōha temper. (Don't go hurting people when I leave, we've already spoke about your temper.)"

The huff from his dragon entertained him, his attitude never changing. Without no foresight, either a keeper or dragon is getting hurt before he comes back. One last rub on his mouth, he nodded to the dragon keepers.

" You seem happy my Prince. "Alicent said behind him. He nodded, looking behind his shoulder he said. " Yes, Aurrax never changes, ever the boisterous and Temperamental Dragon I bonded with."

" Is it true, that as a dragon rider you feel their emotions like of your own?" Laenar remarked excitingly, so much getting quite close to him. Not knowing she was almost in his face. Body basically touching at this point.

" If you would do me the honors, you can ride with me on dragon back. The offer applies to you as well Alicent, if you want to?" Alicent nodded slowly smiling softy, a healthy tinge of red to her cheeks, Laena showed the complete opposite nodding her head profusely in content, eagerly awaiting to ride alongside him.

*Laughing *

" You are dangerous Aegor, I pity and congratulate the women to wed you. Ever the eye pleaser for young ladies of the realm."

Aemma walked towards them with the company of her daughter that was halted by the hand of her mother from dashing in his arms. Mirth on her face, she smiled amusingly.

" If I didn't know I would say the gods sent you down to tempt the ladies of this realm in unholy manner."

When he got in range, Aegor hugged her lovingly "Aemma..." "Aegor..." they uttered in their hug in family loving tone. It only lasted a second before a pair of eager arms wrapped around his core, breaking their hug. Aemma looked upon him and Rhaenyra with fondness, never bored of the show of affection between uncle and niece.

"UNCLE! DID YOU MISS ME!"

Laughter and chuckle came from the people around them yet both Aegor and Rhaenyra smiled at one another. "How can I not? Never has there been a day without me thinking of you." Rhaenyra beemed at his words wrapping both arms around his neck.

"Why don't you play with me anymore?" She pouted in annoyance, not seeing her uncle peeing her off. It hurt him to see her angry but Aegor replied.

"I'm sorry Rhaenyra... I've been busy, but when I'm free I'll play with you again." Her loving smile came back on her face, again, bringing him immense happiness back.

With her still in his arms, Aegor looked now at all the people around him now seeing the tense atmosphere, he asked.

" Now why else are you here? "

This triggered them. Laena and Alicent stuttering at the seriousness, rarely did Aegor see Laena stutter, being the spirited girl she was. Now his aunt and sister in law caught his attention. Her eyes focused on both him and Rhaenyra with utmost seriousness.

"It is not the time to speak here, come with us in the carriage back, there is something spoken of."

X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X

His father had died from a burst belly, Aegor never felt this before the feeling of lose this absurd amount. It was eating him away, when he met his brother Viserys, he got to see he was in no shape as him, absent from reality numb to the sensation around them. Yet another Targaryen had died in a short time span and no less his father.

This death though hurt him than ever more so his mother, unlike his mother who he didn't know, his father had been with him despite not alot of communication. The memories of his father's proud words dug deep like a valyrian steel sword.

No amount of armour could of protect him from this pain. He never showed it, he couldn't, holding this inferno in his cage of a heart. The funeral was worst for his mental state, he couldn't say nothing or do anything incase of a mental breakdown. So he watched like a random stranger without feelings.

The sky was gloomy even in the morning, another heir had gone causing a storm of succession issues to appear because of his father's death.

Training kept him sane, Ser ryam ever the fantastic teacher and mentor to him. "Wake up Aegor.

Laying on his back in the training yard layed Aegor dozing away on the dirt of a training yard. Above him was Ser Ryam Redwyne his mentor, the hand of his outstretched towards him. Gladly helping him up, Aegor looked at him from the side.

"I thank you Ser Ryam for helping me with these trials. It has been quite problematic these few years. I have the deepest thanks for you." Ser Ryam stopped him from bowing, the wrinkles around his face and grey on him showing his growing age.

"I do not deserve your thanks my Prince, I'm merely doing my duty as your mentor. It's better use them emotions for usefulness than let them come over you." patting his shoulder, Ser Ryam than smiled whilst saying proudly.

"It has shown by your growth in swordsmanship. Bless the warrior, you are on par with your brother at one and three."

This brought a smile out of Aegor, if there was anything to make him feel like a kid again it was the thought of besting Daemon. Never has he won a duel yet, but hopefully he could change that soon. Ser Ryam wasn't wrong he felt like a new person, since growing older he felt stronger and quicker than before.

He now stood as tall as a man (179cm) and stockier than the usual targaryen. Many had noticed and remarked of his taller stature for his age, no doubt growing to be even larger in the future.

Servants looked on to them, whispers now emerged because of another reason, Viserys had started walking to him, greeting the onlookers that bowed.

Before Aegor was at his brothers shoulder but now, both of them were eye to eye, a mere half an inch to be exactly the same height. While the older brother was 2 and four, the younger was one and three an exceeding big age difference.

"Brother, what brings you to the training yard?"

They embraced, Ryam looked on with happiness for his squire. When they disengaged, Viserys stared him in the eyes and said. "It has been sometime since father has unfortunately passed, the king has demanded a great council you will be coming along with me."

Aegor raised his eye brow, confusion etched on his face, Viserys smirked at his confusion, opening his mouth now again to give clarity.

" We will be heading to Harrenhal, all the Lords and ladies will be there to swear their fealty to the new heir. As such, you will be coming alongside me, Aemma and Rhaenyra."

He didn't know if saying such a thing was privy but maybe that was why of recent more whispers were happening in the red keep. Nodding, Viserys patted his back once more before leaving to go back in the red keep. Not before shouting.

" We only have a fortnight until we will have to depart for harrenhal. So get packed. Good day brother."

His brothers back disappearing behind the door, Now they were on the own, the servants leaving straight after his brother, Ser Ryam picked up the training swords from the ground intending depart as well.

"Seems you are needed elsewhere. Like I've said before, use that temper for usefulness, control that side of you and you will be unstoppable."

Aegor bowed one last time before he had to pack up for harrenhal, as he left the thought of seeing the once great castle that Balerion burned with his dragonfire intriguing him. Ser Ryam smiling as he left, reminiscent of his younger days Gazed at the boys back and said.

"Of all things, that I would say is my greatest achievement never in my whole life would I of said training a Prince be it. No knight would be prouder to have such a talent and humble squire. "
