Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Magic Tricks

Once I had opened the door the smell got ten times worse than it had been out of the room, and the room was stained with blood on every part of the walls, and ceiling. The blood was both new, and many many years old I could feel the vomit coming up in my throat, but I somehow forced myself to swallow it down. Unfortunately that wasn't even the most horrifying part of all on the right side of the empty room there clinging to the ceiling hung the most horrifying creature I could ever have the displeasure of even imagining. Lilith was the first to speak up. She yelled in my head, "Master, get the hell out of here quickly!" her warnings made my head hurt instead. I tried to move, but my body wouldn't work the way I wanted it to so I stood frozen in place. I stared at the creature whose appearance made me gag. The creature was a giant pile of flesh squirming against the wall. The pile of flesh had many body parts scattered around at random such as eyes, or teeth. The piece of flesh also had hair surrounding its large body, the eyes on its body seemed to be scanning me like I was a piece of meat ripe to eat.

I had had enough. I shook off my fear, and was ready to run out of the house, but a large mouth on the front of the creature spoke to me. In a deep voice the mouth on its side spoke up, "Leaving so soon? I can't allow that." The wall of flesh shot an arm out of the mouth that had just spoken to me seconds ago, the arm landed on my feet, and it grabbed my legs. The arm had a tight grip on my legs, and proceeded to fuse with the floor making it impossible for me to run. I yelled, but was quickly silenced by what happened next. The creature twisted, and morphed. The creature shrunk till it was about only a foot in length, and it fell to the floor. The creature grew fangs and claws, and its hair now covered its entire body including its face. This newly formed creature surprisingly didn't upset my stomach, and instead I thought it looked cute. The form the creature had taken was that of a regular house cat, and if I didn't see its true form I might have even tried to pet it.

Most of my fear being suppressed, I finally grew the courage to speak up, "W-what do you want? What are you?" I tried my best not to sound scared, but the cat looked at me almost surprised as if he hadn't expected that question. The cat titled his head, "Do you plan on having a discourse with a monster such as myself? You are one weird human. I guess I could humor you, and answer your questions." The cat scanned me before speaking again, "I want to kill, and eat you for energy. The reason for this is simple: I am a flesh demon, and you are a powerless human with no magic." I had to think of something quickly, or else I would surely die. I had no power, and Lilith was sealed away right now. I would die alongside her even if we unsealed right now anyways since demons were considered the top of the food chain. The demon was right I was powerless to stand in the way of what he wanted, and I had just fallen right into the trap of the villagers, one that they no doubt had used many times before.

Lilith had not said anything in awhile I presume she was in shook, so I would need to figure things out myself, and quickly. I had no magic though, so I really was screwed in a fight. Magic was truly everything in this world, hm but wait I did have some magic I could use. This would be a huge gamble again, but it seems I may have to bet on my gut again this time. I quickly spoke before the demon grew impatient "Demon you said that I have no magic? How long has it been since you have left this house? Humans have developed, and used magic for hundreds of years now." I bet on this bluff, and finally Lilith spoke up again to give some input. Lilith said in a nervous voice, "Master you made another rash choice now we are certainly dead this isn't going to go like the cave demons are capable of telling when you have lied." I spoke directly to Lilith, "I haven't told a lie at all. Humans truly have mastered a new kind of magic never seen before." Lilith was frantic, "Master have you gone mad? Humans aren't capable of even the most basic magic." I finally said "Lilith this will be a first, but please try to trust me a little bit." This seemed to make her go silent.

The cat finally spoke, "Human? Is what you say really true? I have eaten many humans in the hundreds of years I have been here, but none of them used magic." I nervously said, "They would have had to have been taught this special magic, and the only one I knew that taught me was my grandpa." The cat tilted its head, "What kind of magic is it?" I decided to use words that it couldn't see through, because if it saw that I was lying it would probably kill me. I mustered my courage and stated, "I can use illusion magic." I made sure to not say more than necessary, and this seemed to please the cat.

The cat seemed to grin and it playfully said, "Human demonstrate this magic for me if it amuses me I may just reward you." I decided it was best to do as the demon said since my life was in this things hands. I took out a roll of coins. I decided to show a basic trick. I announced "Well for my first piece of magic I will transform this bronze coin into a silver coin before your eyes." The cat looked skeptical, but did not interrupt. I took out a bronze coin, and a silver one. The silver coin was concealed in my left hand, and I took the other coin into my right hand to show it off. I showed the cat the right bronze coin in between my fingers, and I proceeded to again explain "This bronze coin in my right hand will turn into a silver coin when I say done." I got the silver coin concealed in my left hand, and put it up against the bronze coin, in one quick minion I pushed the bronze coin out, and put the silver coin in its place. I let the bronze coin fall down my shift sleeve from the base of my palm, and I proceeded to remove my fingers showing off the silver coin that had replaced the bronze one.

The cat's eyes grew wide as he examined this new phenomenon. I grew nervous since he was being quiet. He gave out a little laugh, "Human I am sorry to have doubted you I have never meant a human that could use magic before how interesting." His eyes grew wide "I have decided to let you live killing such a specimen would be a truly unforgivable act, but I won't let you just go either." Oh no it seems my little performance had been too effective he would want me to stay her performing for him maybe forever. The cat seemed to understand what I was thinking, "Now now I won't be keeping you long. I promised you a gift right? I have just the gift over there. Why don't you stay, and pick something out?" I looked over to where he was looking. It was a closet, the only other thing in the room other than us. I hadn't noticed it before for obvious reasons, but I decided to walk over to the closet door.

I braced myself for what horrors lie within, but instead I ended up surprised the room was just really dirty like the rest of the house. It was also rotting, and had fallen apart, but it had a few things laid out on the floor. They were dusty however I assumed this is what the cat meant. On the floor lay an old magic book, a fishing rod, glasses, torn clothes, and a broken sword. I figured it would be rude to say we didn't need anything, so I decided to take the magic book, maybe Lilith would have some use for it. The cat seemed to give a sinister smile, and said, "Oh the magic book I assume it's for your friend, tell her I give my regards for keeping quiet, oh wait she can hear me cant she?" He laughed. I felt a chill run down my spine, I knew that demons' senses were powerful, but to even sense something like this was incredible.

The demon seemed pleased at my surprised expression, and he stated "Human I have decided to give you a second gift too." I swallowed. I figured he was about to say something along the lines of "I will now give you a painless death" I hoped he wouldn't get aggressive again. The cat did seemingly the opposite. He gave me an offer: "The second gift is my presence. I wish to join you on your travels, human." I couldn't believe what the cat had just said, but I had to quickly take control of the situation. I knew I wouldn't be able to deny him, but I asked him a question instead. I asked the cat, "Demon first of all what is your name if we are going to be travelling together I would at least like to know? Secondly I would like to know why you would want to travel with a human, and a dark elf?" The demon looked confused again, "I am Bastrin, and I wish to travel with both you because I have grown sick of this place. I have to see the same scene everyday, and I have to consume the same boring meals every day too. The beastmen here worship, and fear me, they also send travelers here to be eaten by me. This process has repeated hundreds of times to the point that I have grown immensely bored of it, and have started to feel like I am just being used."

Bastrin paused for a second, after thinking for a few seconds he said, "What has me confused is why you even bothered to ask these questions? You seem like a particularly weak human. I doubt you have ever harmed a fly. I must ask again why would you consider taking along such a disgusting creature?" I looked at the cat, and clearly stated "I am not pleased at the lives you have taken Bastrin, but I am willing to be your way of atonement. Follow me, and instead of attacking humans for food I can show you food can taste even better when it doesn't cry. Besides Bastrin I see no disgusting creature I just see a cute fluffy cat." I smiled, "The first thing you will have to tell me along the way is what kind of dream you have Bastrin."
