Iona was getting increasingly irritated by the second. She had been ringing the bell again and again for seven consecutive minutes and still it didn't sound like anyone was home.
She pressed her ear to the glass of the door to try and catch any sound of movement inside the house but all she discovered was the thickness of the glass door.
Though the glass looked light there was a thickness to it and Iona guessed it was probably bulletproof.
Still she refrained from knocking on the glass door. If the door bell wasn't doing the trick she doubted knocking on the glass would help anything other than the expression of her growing frustration.
Inside the house, Onyx counted the last ten seconds of his Romanian deadlift and finally slumped to the floor. He loved mornings like this when he didn't have to be at work and he could push his limits in the privacy of his own gym.
He had taken a two week leave off work to settle into his new house.
It was no problem because he and his close friend Hayden were co-owners of Rapha Pharmaceuticals a pharmaceutical company that packaged pure medicinal herbs.
He was also the head designer for Rosettafelle a luxury jewelry brand he co-owned with his brother, Omari and he had taken leave off that job too. Onyx was involved in other companies both big and small but he wasn't an active administrative member in them.
'Alexa shut up', Onyx called as he grabbed a towel to wipe his sweat. The loud thumping music immediately cut off and it felt like Onyx was returned to the realm of reality. He began to feel the sweet burn from his workout all over his body.
The burn was even sweeter when he flexed all that lean muscle on display in front of the mirror.
Twenty six looked good on him. He couldn't resist a few pictures so he grabbed his phone and snapped away. But as he was clicking away at his posses his eye caught his notification bar.
Four missed calls.
Onyx stopped snapping and tried to recognise the number. He couldn't, he tried to think of any important person he had left his card with recently. No one.
He shrugged as he sauntered out of the gym. He wasn't going to call back but if the person called again he would pick. He slipped his phone into his pocket and walked into his Kitchen.
The last room apart from his gym and his room that was fully set up. As he made a protein shake, he reminded himself that he would have to hire a personal chef when his boys were around instead of eating food that was sent by a cooking service company.
Family man moves, Onyx family man moves he repeated in his head.
He was just adding some frozen bananas into his blender when he heard the most impatient ring on a doorbell he had ever heard before.
Onyx paused mid pour annoyed at the audacity, 'who the he-?' and then it clicked.
The nanny. He had forgotten about the nanny.
A Miss Quinn was supposed to see him for an interview, he checked his phone, twenty-two minutes ago.
Heck!
Onyx tried to scamper around for a shirt of any kind but his house was big and his room was all the way on the other side. He tried to make a quick dash for it but the insistent and annoyed ringing of the bell came again. He quickly changed course and headed for the main entrance. She had every right. He was the one with the nerves and the audacity after asking Sarah his P.A to tell her that she had to be on time to the appointment if she wanted to be interviewed.
As he ran through the lobby he caught a glimpse of himself in the full length mirror. Durag still on, scruffy beard, sweat on bare chest, tiny gym shorts, a pair of overused socks, all his tattoos on display.
Onyx cursed he hoped he didn't scare her away or give her any ideas. He wanted a nanny on hand when his kids slept over together for the first time next week.
Thanks to his socks, he slid the last few steps to the large glass door and paused for a moment in pleasant tiny shock.
His glass door could be programmed to activate the attributes of a one way mirror which he had. He could see outside very clearly. He could see the young black lady attacking his doorbell when she couldn't see him.
Something lifted off his chest.
