"What are you doing here, sir?" said the chief guard guarding the border of the Edgelask and city of Nortinlask.
Nortinlask is a city of commerce bustling with foreign shops and merchants coming here to deal with the merchant nobles of the Zagrath kingdom and its citizen.
Though, not the capital or port city, it is quite important due to its position and the number of routes passing through it that makes it not only important for domestic trade but also international trade.
There are also many factories and production areas in the city making it a bit overpopulated due to influx of people coming here for jobs.
Since it is situated on the outskirts of the country, the city is a bit heavily guarded. There were huge walls built around it to turn it into a fortress if the worst possible situation comes.
However, these walls did not allow city expansion while the population was increasing day by day so, a town on outskirts was expanded towards the city due to people settling near it.
But, the wall was still there, so there are guards to justify its purpose.
"Don't you have any other purpose than brooming the walls?" I asked.
"Not unless you start wreaking everything around, sir."
"Why would I be able to do something like that?"
"Aren't you a mage, sir?" He asked confused.
"I am a magician."
I cleared him.
There are three paths of pure magic:-
Mage, Magicians and Alchemists.
Mages are the ones that can use magic in battles, wars and raids while alchemists are the ones that utilize magic for potion making and artifact inscription.
At the same time, magicians are the ones who do theoretical research and experiment.
"Doesn't that mean you are powerlessly useless, sir?"
Ah, that's true.
"Stop addressing me as sir, I allow you to treat me as a friend."
I gave my friendliest smile.
"Doesn't that mean I can kill you easily if you start suddenly start ranting on streets, sir? or maybe just because you tried to kill me out of jealously."
Wait, that escalated quickly.
"Stop jokin-"
Clank!
He moved,
But, all that is different is that his sword on his back were now on his hands, unsheathed.
The sword was pointing on me but was stopped by a silver rapier.
"I never thought that the girl beside you would be so powerful."
He withdrew his sword back into the sheath with a light exhale.
But, Rishta was as exhausted as she could be, her arms were trembling and her breathing was ragged.
No, she was just afraid.
"Do you think you can get away after an assasination attempt on a count magician and the son of someone held as the Mercenary king?"
"Who is the proof here, magician?"
He glared back at me with his golden eyes burning in glory.
Doesn't he look a bit like some noble?
I looked around me, at the guards resting in the barrack, 'can't y'all see him?'
They were ignoring us...
"I should go back now."
Things look fishy enough, let's come back before it gets fishier.
"Ah magician, how rude of me, remember my name is Albert. Let's be good friends."
"So, the Green family is losing their power in Nortinlask and Edgelask."
I stared back at father who started to fidget at those words.
