Once the lecture was over, the class was dismissed, and as it was David and Emily's last class, they were supposed to regroup together and head out to have lunch.
Emily wore a gorgeous light brown dress that made her look like a true cutie.
She was seated next to David the whole time, and as the lecture ended, she finally said, "By the way, congrats on being ranked first."
David - "Thank you."
Emily - "A simple thank you won't do it."
David - "Okay, how about lunch is on me."
Emily - "That works."
Mark - "Alright, here is the QR code for your attendance. Please scan, and then you are free to go."
David and Emily quickly took out their phones, just like the rest of the class, scanned the QR code, and finally marked their class attendance.
David - "Alright, let's get going."
Emily - "Okay."
David and Emily started heading towards the exit to get out of the lecture hall but were soon interrupted by someone.
It was none other than Olivia, the gorgeous red hair beauty, which made even Mark, the professor who has been teaching the course for ten years, lose his mind and stop to take her beauty in.
Olivia - "Hi there, David."
David - "Oh, hi, Olivia, right, if I am not mistaken."
Olivia - "Yes."
Emily grabbed David's arm and said, "Well, Olivia, what do you want? We are kind of busy."
Olivia - "And who might you be?"
Emily - "I am Emily David's girlfriend."
Olivia - "I see, and what ranking were you in the top 10?"
Emily - "I..."
David - "Don't talk like that to Emily."
Olivia - "Oh my, I like it when a man stands up for his woman."
Olivia then had an evil grin on her face, while Emily had a red blush due to being referred to as David's woman.
Olivia - "Anyways, all I wanted to say was you wouldn't beat me next month in the rankings, David."
"And if you continue to, then Emily, you better watch your man. As someone might take him away from you."
Olivia then exited, leaving both David and Emily stunned.
David - "What just happened?"
Emily - "To be honest, I don't know either."
David - "You know what, ignore her. There is no way I would leave you for someone else."
Emily - "Awh."
David - "Let go. Don't let her ruin your mood."
Emily - "Okay, let's go."
David in his mind, "Besides, there is no way in hell I will continue to be ranked number one by next month, right?"
David and Emily then walked outside campus to a nearby restaurant and sat down at an empty table.
"By the way, just to know how well is your manga doing?" David asked after finishing ordering with the waiter.
"It is going well. I just hit 1.2k collection this week." Emily replied with a bright smile.
"Ah, that's good. I would recommend your manga in mine, but you know how readers on Jump are. They don't like going to other platforms."
"No, even if you could, I wouldn't want you to recommend my manga." Emily raised her brows after hearing David's inconsiderate help.
"Why?"
" I would much rather be less well off than take someone's pity help." Emily replied. Although she tried to be calm, her tone was slightly higher than usual.
David realized now he had said something insensitive. "Come on. It wasn't out of pity. It was because I care about you." His worried expression calmed Emily down.
She has a problem with her pride getting in the way sometimes. "Don't worry. I wasn't starting an argument. I was talking in general." Her voice became mellowed as she collected herself.
"Oh, that goodness, I was like, are we about to start our first fight," David said with a chuckle.
Emily breaks into a smile. "Well, I am an easy-to-get-along type of person. I don't think we will fight a lot."
Like this, David barely managed to pass the first trial of the afternoon.
Emily continued, "By the way, Olivia is such a weirdo. I mean, who goes and issues challenges like that in real life."
David replied, "I know it caught me off guard too. If she wasn't beautiful, I would have thought she was some kind of stalker."
Emily asked in a sore, questioning tone, "You think she is beautiful?"
David in his mind, "Oh shit, David, you messed up."
David replied, "I mean, she does look beautiful, but that doesn't mean anything."
Emily said spitefully, "Oh yes, of course, I know it means nothing when my boyfriend has the hots for his creepy stalker."
David asked back, "Who said she was a stalker?"
Emily replied, "Why beautiful people can't be stalkers? Also, you didn't deny you liked her."
David put both his hands up and said, "I don't okay I haven't even seen her before. Much less like her."
Emily didn't reply but remained quiet, making the atmosphere icy cold.
David then had a eureka moment and said, "You know what? I bet this is her plan to plant the seed of discord between us so that I can't concentrate on my manga and end up falling in the rankings."
Emily heard what David said and was taken aback. She then gave it a thought and said, "That might be it. Otherwise, why would she suddenly approach us and say such things when she saw we were together."
"Why not approach you alone and then try to charm you?"
David - "See."
Emily looked melancholy that she had been so easily tricked and said, "Well, I am sorry."
David - "No, it is fine. We got into a relationship so quickly. We didn't really have the time to build trust between us."
Emily - "Do you mean you want to break up with me and be friends first? Please don't do that. I am sure with time. Everything will be fine."
David - "Break up with you? Of course not, it was a small misunderstanding, plus only by dating and getting to know the other person can more trust be built."
"Not to mention, you are my first girlfriend. You wouldn't get rid of me that easily hahaha."
Emily - "I am your first?"
David - "Yeah."
Emily - "Well, I was too embarrassed to say this, but you are also my first boyfriend, which is why I am so wary."
David - "I am your first? No way you got to be joking. How come a beautiful girl like you didn't have a boyfriend in high school?"
Emily - "I wasn't interested in dating that young. What about you? Why didn't a handsome boy like you have a girlfriend in high school."
David - "Well, I was far too introverted back then."
Emily - "You an introvert, haha, no way."
David - "No, really, I used to be very shy. Only in my senior year did I finally break my cocoon."
The waiter then arrived with the food, interrupting their conversation, and served them.
Later they ate their meals, and things normalized between them.
