Time soon passed, and the day changed from Wednesday to Saturday. The weekend had officially started meaning it was an off, and David didn't have to go to College today.
It was a day David could finally sleep for as long as he desired. Still, David decided to wake up at 8 am as he had an appointment with some friends at nine.
David found it weird, though, as they usually would meet at a mall or a park, not a restaurant down the road.
David thought they probably planned to have breakfast and then go somewhere else, so he didn't give it too much thought.
David heard his alarm go off, got up from his bed, and headed to the washroom for a brush. Later, he took a bath and got dressed in some casual.
He then arrived at the agreed location and entered inside. He quickly found Harry just sitting at a table waiting for him.
Harry – "David here."
David – "Ah, Harry."
David then headed over and took a seat.
David then asked, "Looks like I am the first to arrive."
Harry – "About that, Kevin and James had to cancel cause they were busy, so it's just us."
David – "Oh."
Harry – "Yeah, why else do you think I am sitting at a table for two."
David – "I didn't give it that much thought."
"So what's the plan? What do you wanna do today?"
Harry – "I don't know. I guess we will have breakfast and then go for a walk or something."
David – "You know I do live nearby if you wanna hang out at my house."
Harry – "All right, we will head to your place after."
David – "Works for me."
"So, any suggestions on what to order."
Harry – "I don't know, man, it's my first time here too."
David – "Oh, I thought you selected this place."
Harry – "Nah, Kevin did, but then he didn't show up."
David – "I see. Do you want to order separate dishes or something together like, I don't know, this chicken platter?"
Harry – "Hmm, let's take a look and then decide."
David – "All right."
Both David and Harry are seen browsing the restaurant menu. Harry's phone suddenly starts ringing.
Harry – "I am going to have to take this."
David – "Yeah, sure, go ahead."
Harry – "Hi. Hi, can you hear me? I can't hear you."
Harry then covered his phone and spoke to David, "I think there is some connectivity issue here. I will be right back. "
David – "All right, go ahead. I will wait for you before ordering."
Harry then got up from his chair and exited the restaurant.
David continued waiting for Harry to return after finishing his phone call.
While waiting, a beautiful blonde woman with green emerald eyes approached him. She had an uncanny resemblance to Anya Taylor-Joy (actress, look it up).
This woman soon approached David and asked, "You are David, right?"
David was shocked that a complete stranger knew his name and replied, "Yes, I am David, and who may you be?"
The woman replied, "I am Emily."
Emily then proceeded to sit down right across from David in Harry's seat. Before David could warn her that someone was sitting there, he received a phone call.
David – "Uh, excuse me."
Emily – "No problem."
David then picked up Harry's phone call. Harry then started speaking before David could even say hello.
Harry – "So you are probably wondering where the hell I am and why a beautiful woman is sitting in front of you."
David – "Yeah."
Harry – "You see, this whole meeting was a setup. We all have a girlfriend, but you are still alone, so we decided to set you up with one of Rebecca's friends. Enjoy."
Harry then ended the call and started driving away in his car.
On the other hand, David was left speechless his childhood friends set him up on a blind date without him even having a clue.
David, who got played, didn't panic but tried his best to remain calm and collected in the face of this unexpected situation.
David – "So Emily, what do you do? Presumably, you are attending College?"
Emily – "Yeah, I am a student at Alton John
David – "Really?"
Emily – "Yeah, why?"
David – "I am from the same college."
Emily – "You are?"
David – "Yeah, what's your major?"
Emily – "I am a Mangaka."
David – "No way you have to be kidding. I have the same major."
Emily – "Wow, the world sure is a small place."
David – "So you started your first manga yet?"
Emily – "Yeah."
David – "Cool."
A small awkward silence follows suit.
David – "So, how about we order something."
Emily – "Yeah, sure."
David and Emily then proceeded to select and order food. Overall, they had a good time talking with each other with many common interests.
David – "I have to say I didn't expect today to be so much fun."
Emily – "Me neither."
A moment of silence ensured.
David and Emily then spoke simultaneously, "I have something I need to tell you."
Both of them were left confused and spoke simultaneously again, "Oh, please go ahead first."
Simultaneously – "No, you go first."
They then bust into laughter at this weird sync of thoughts.
David finally brome this sync cycle and said, "Please, you go first."
Emily – "All right. I think I should come clean I originally didn't know I was going to meet you here, but it was set up by my best friend, Rebecca."
David – "Really?"
Emily – "Yeah, but I hope you don't get offended. I have enjoyed my time here and am glad she did."
David – "No, the reason I said really is cause even I was set up by Rebecca's boyfriend, Harry. He is a childhood friend of mine."
Emily – "No way."
David – "Yeah, I am not joking."
Emily – "Wow, we both got played."
David – "We sure did."
"So, how did you get tricked?"
Emily – "When I reached the restaurant, I received a phone call asking where I was. Next, I met..."
David – "Wait, let me guess, you met Harry next?"
Emily – "Yeah, he said she is right inside."
So I headed inside, finding no one. I called back, and Rebecca threatened me to attend this date, or she would throw my collectibles in the bin."
David – "Sorry about that."
Emily – "No need. You weren't the one at fault here."
"By the way, how did you guess it was Harry who I met."
David – "You see, I met him here. He received a phone call but, due to low reception, he went outside."
Emily – "So the call you got at the start was."
David – "Yeah, it was Harry, and as you had already taken a seat, I couldn't just leave you alone here."
The waiter soon arrived with the bill, and David quickly took it from the waiters.
Emily – "There is no need to pay the whole. We can do fifty-fifty."
David replied, "Come on, there is no way I am allowing you to pay on our first date."
David might be greedy for insurance money, but this doesn't mean he isn't a true gentleman.
Emily tried to forcefully take the server book, but David didn't let go.
Emily - "Fine, you can pay it."
Author Note: This scenario popped up in my head the other day, and I decided to use it. Hope you enjoyed the chapter.
