Peter took off the helmet and looked up at the bell tower. He fell into thoughts for a while. Ben also took off his helmet and walked over. He felt that Peter wanted to choose the current bell tower as ceremony place. He glanced around and realized that the environment around the bell tower was really suitable for it.
"Is it here?", asked Ben.
Peter nodded and confirmed, "Let's just do it here."
At that time, a burly man walked over and greeted.
"Hey, friends, thanks for saving us. But we wish to know why are you stopping here."
"Peter. This is Ben."
Peter shook his hands with the man and introduced themselves. The man shook hands warmly and stated the purpose directly.
"Jordon."
"So, Peter, why are you stopping here instead of getting out of this town? I am not blaming you, buddy. But you also know that we have no way to fight against those strange monsters."
Peter decided to tell him. Anyways, these people deserved to know the truth too. Peter thought so and he also really did that.
"Ben, you guys go and find the things we would need. As for the fuel, I will take it out from our stocks if we can't get enough."
Ben nodded, put back his helmet and walked to Glenn. The two guys went into the nearest building to find wooden things to make fire. Peter took back his sight to the man in front of him and started to tell the story.
"…. So, we are going to make a ceremony here. Everything would be fine once we succeeded. But of course, you can try to leave the town by yourselves too. However, we are doomed to stick here until the reinforcements arrived. The evil must not be allowed to go to other places."
Three minutes later, the story ended but Jordon was left with confusions. He asked, "Why are you so sure that the evil would come here and stay with you until your reinforcements arrived? And will your method really work? You know, we all might die if it failed."
Peter firmly said while staring at Jordon's eyes, "So, I gave you a choice to leave here. Moreover, our God is real and his power are unimaginable. Of course, we will protect you well when you are with us. No evil would be able to hurt you before we fell in the front. That's my promise."
"You joking me. If we can fight these monsters, why would we stick with you.."
Jordon was pissed by the answer. He muttered and walked back to his team in a hurry. He got to explain them and make some preparations so they could survive through this nightmare.
The place was extremely safe under the guard of armored men team. The nine people survivors team was glad and afraid at the same time. They were glad that a team of armored men from unknown origin suddenly appeared and guaranteed their safety. They were also afraid that the armored men suddenly stopped for unknown reason and the team was not moving forward again.
Although they could see that the strange invincible corpses in their eyes were easily eliminated by these armored men, but they were still afraid.
Just when they were confused, Jordon came back and gestured them to come out. The first six people were the same people who came along with him. As for the other three people, they got into the team on the way when they were passing the central area. They were a family of three; a granny, a mother and a teenage son.
Jordon looked at the confused people and decided to talk about it. Anyways, they got no other choice and they would have to face it. So, it would be much better to vaccinate the truth earlier. But he led them to the bell tower first. It would be better to be in a building than standing at the outside.
Moreover, Jordon was born in this small town and grew up here. He went to serve in the military for a few years before being delisted as the war ended. He came back to his hometown since he just wanted to live a peaceful life. But who could know that things would become like this.
Even though the bell tower is not large, it is still a good place to stay. Especially the secret basement prepared for nuclear war could provide a good shelter for them. And fortunately, Jordon knew and remembered about its existence well.
Looking at the crowd coming towards the bell tower, Peter asked the leading Jordon with doubts. He thought that several men would climb up to the top and women and children might stay just at the bottom? Or in the middle? Or the women and children climb up? Emm, not a single seemed a good idea?? He was greatly confused because the bell tower looked small no matter what. He inspected inside and not many people would be able to hide inside due to a small space.
"Are you guys going to hide in the bell tower?"
Jordon nodded and said, "I suddenly remembered a place and it would make us safe. There is a small underground nuclear bunker under the bell tower. Peter, you guys can also come down and hide inside if you can't fight anymore."
Peter was surprised by the sudden news. He felt that it was a very fortunate coincidence. Although they might not need it, it is still a good thing for these survivors after all.
The crowd passed Peter and followed Jordon. They carefully looked at the mighty armored guy curiously. Especially the two little girls and the teenage boy had shining eyes sticking to Peter or exactly his armor while turning their heads and looking back as they walked away.
They couldn't get into the bunker directly. While the crowd was waiting at the outside, Jordon went into the tower to open the passage. After removing several paved bricks in the middle of the floor, a black metallic sewer cover appeared.
Jordon stood by the side and gestured the other people to get in first. Two men got down first and the rest followed only when they made a sound. Soon, the small crowd was gone. Just when Jordon wanted to go down too, Peter walked over and said, "Wait a second. I have something to remind you."
Jordon was already in the tunnel with lower body inside. He asked calmly, "Is there something wrong?"
Peter pointed at the top of bell tower and said, "The tower's height is radius. And remember to stay inside that range. Trust me. It will provide you a safe shelter. I don't know if those guys can get into underground or not. I don't know about the quality of your bunker either. But remember my reminder. Don't go outside of that range."
After saying that Peter left. Jordon was confused but he quickly continued to go down. He also didn't know about the situation inside the bunker. He needed to see it and prepare how to survive in there. As for reinforcements and government help, he didn't believe they would come. After all, the communication services went bad all of a sudden and they were not even recovering yet. How could these people know about their dangerous situation quickly?
Peter walked over to Ronald and looked at the situation. Everything seemed going well. From time to time, strange corpses would come towards their place in small groups of four or five. Sometimes, a group of ten or twenty corpses would come.
Honestly, they were no match for Peter's squad who were equipped with special items which could directly eliminate them. But still, it was quite stressful because the bullets were slowly running out even if they carefully attacked the corpses in the way which could save the bullets and also effectively eliminating the corpses. The best one might be when these corpses came in neat columns like queues.
It was weird for these strange corpses to do that. Although it might not be an obvious defect when they were facing the normal people holding normal firearms and normal bullets, it became a major defect when they came to face with Peter's squad.
At the same time, the marching corpses also arrived at the town. Along the clean and quiet street, they marched into the town quietly. If you neglected their strange appearances, one might think of them as a strictly trained legion. They only made sounds of footsteps. And the dark clouds on the sky also moved forwards with their movement. In the middle of the crowd, a black coffin was floating slightly above the ground and moving together with the corpses. However, the dark mists around it had became denser since they stepped into the town's area.
