Chereads / A Life so Unsettled / Chapter 6 - Change of plans

Chapter 6 - Change of plans

In no time , she was back at home. Salma helped her with her luggage as she entered the house. She directly went to the nursery to kiss baby Kelvin as she missed him dearly during the day .

Daniel was in the office room where they both used it to do some work stuff but it later turned out to be used frequently by him.

Luvuno went to check up on him.

The rhythmic click of her heels echoed through the grand hallway, a stark contrast to the quietude of the opulent mansion. Luvuno, her face etched with the marks of a long workday, moved towards the imposing oak door of her husband's office. The brass handle, cool to the touch, offered a moment of pause before she turned it.

The room, a testament to wealth and power, was bathed in a warm, golden light. Sunlight streamed through the expansive windows, illuminating the meticulously curated space. The walls, adorned with masterpieces of renowned artists, spoke of refined taste and discerning choices. A Persian rug, its intricate patterns a marvel of craftsmanship, covered the polished marble floor.

Her gaze fell upon the massive desk, a behemoth of dark wood, its surface a clutter of papers, gadgets, and a sleek, modern laptop. Behind it, her husband, Daniel, sat engrossed in a video conference, his stern expression softening as he noticed her.

"You're home early," he remarked, his voice a low rumble.

"Just got a New year break," she replied, a wry smile playing on her lips. "Just wanted to see you."

She moved closer, the scent of her perfume mingling with the rich aroma of leather and wood. The room, with its air of exclusivity, was a world apart from the mundane realities of their lives. Yet, it was here, in this sanctuary of success, that they found solace and love.

The office was more than just a workspace; it was a symbol of their achievements, a testament to their unwavering ambition. It was a place where deals were made, empires were built, and dreams took flight. And yet, for Luvuno, it was also a place of quiet moments, stolen glances, and shared laughter.

As she watched Daniel, his focused demeanor, his sharp mind, she felt a surge of pride. He was a force to be reckoned with, a man who could conquer any challenge. And she, a part of his world, shared in his triumphs.

The room, with its opulence and grandeur, was a backdrop to their love story. It was a stage upon which they played their roles, a world they had created together. And as the sun began its descent, casting long shadows across the room, they knew that their journey, filled with both challenges and triumphs, was far from over.

After Daniel was done with the video conference. They headed to the dining for the evening meal.

Later , Luvuno headed to the nursery room to breastfeed baby Kelvin. She breastfed him for almost an hour untill he fell asleep. A sense of peace washed over her as she gazed upon her sleeping baby. The tiny figure, swaddled in a soft blanket, breathed rhythmically, a delicate rise and fall of the chest.

Six months had passed since the baby's birth, and the transformation had been remarkable. From a tiny, fragile newborn, the baby had grown into a robust and curious infant. The once-smooth skin was now adorned with a smattering of dimples and a playful smile. Baby Kelvin's eyes, once a blank slate, now sparkled with intelligence and wonder.

Luvuno gently stroked the Baby Kelvin's soft cheek, a wave of tenderness washing over her. The bond between mother and child, forged in the crucible of love and sacrifice, was as strong as ever. As she watched her baby sleep, Luvuno couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the miracle of life.

The soft glow of the television illuminated the living room, casting a warm, inviting light on the scene. Daniel, his head tilted slightly, was slumped in the armchair. His eyes, heavy with fatigue, were closed, and his breathing was slow and steady. The news anchor's voice, a soothing murmur, filled the air.

A soft creak echoed from the hallway as a woman emerged, her steps gentle and purposeful. She had just finished nursing her baby, a precious bundle of joy who had finally drifted off to sleep. As she moved through the living room, her gaze fell upon her husband, his peaceful slumber a stark contrast to the chaos of the day.

A tender smile played on her lips as she approached him. She gently shook his shoulder, her voice a whisper, "Honey, it's time for bed." His eyes fluttered open, a look of surprise and sleepiness washing over his face.

"Oh, it's you," he murmured, his voice thick with sleep. "I must have dozed off."

She chuckled softly, "I know, dear. You've been working hard. Let's get you to bed."

With a gentle hand, she guided him to their bedroom, the soft glow of the nightlight casting a comforting glow. As they settled into bed, the warmth of their bodies melding together, a sense of peace washed over them. The day's worries and stresses seemed to melt away, replaced by a quiet contentment.

They lay there, their fingers intertwined, their breaths synchronized. The rhythmic sound of each other's heartbeat filled the silence, a soothing lullaby. She closed her eyes, a smile playing on her lips. She felt a sense of gratitude, a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life: the warmth of her husband's embrace, the peaceful sleep of her child, and the quiet comfort of their shared love.

As sleep began to claim them, a thought crossed her mind. She was grateful for the love and support of her husband, for his unwavering presence in her life. With a contented sigh, she drifted off to sleep, her dreams filled with images of love, family, and the promise of a bright future.

In the middle of the night.....

Luvuno was done breastfeeding baby Kelvin and she found Daniel wide awake.

Luvuno decided to talk with her husband.

The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminated Luvuno's face as she turned to her husband, Daniel. The room, though luxurious, was filled with a quiet intimacy.

"Daniel," she began, her voice barely a whisper, "I've been thinking... about going home for New Year's."

A flicker of surprise crossed David's face. "Home? As in Makina?"

Luvuno nodded, her eyes filled with longing. "Yes. It's been too long. I miss my family, the old friends, the familiar streets."

Daniel understood the pull of nostalgia. He had felt it himself, the yearning for the places and people of his youth. "I know, honey. But what about baby Kelvin? And the nanny?"

"I'll be back early," she assured him. "Just a few days. Enough to celebrate with family and friends, then I'll be back to relieve the nanny. She's been working tirelessly, and I owe her."

Daniel considered her proposal. He knew the importance of family, the bonds that tied them together. But his work commitments were equally demanding. "I have a crucial business meeting scheduled for the same time. It's out of the country, and I can't postpone it."

A moment of silence hung between them. They both knew the implications of their separate plans. Sarah, alone with the children, and David, thousands of miles away.

"I understand," Luvuno said, her voice soft. "Work is important. But I'll be careful. I'll keep you updated, and we can video call every day."

David reached out and took her hand. "I know you will. And I'll be back as soon as I can. We'll make the most of the time we have together, both before and after."

They spent the next hour discussing logistics, making plans, and easing each other's worries. Luvuno outlined her itinerary, the days she would spend with family and friends, and the exact date of her return. Daniel, in turn, assured her of his unwavering support and promised to be in constant contact.

As they drifted off to sleep, a sense of peace settled over them. They had found a way to balance their personal and professional lives, to honor their commitments while cherishing their love for each other. And though they would be apart for a short time, they knew that their bond would remain strong, enduring the distance and the challenges.

The next morning.....

The morning sun streamed through the stained-glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the polished floor. Salma was tending to her usual morning chores when she heard a knock on her door.

"Sally," Luvuno's voice, a mix of firmness and sorrow, echoed through the quiet corridor. "Please, come in."

Salma entered the room, her heart heavy as she saw the somber expression on Luvuno's face. "What's wrong, dear?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

Luvuno sighed, her gaze fixed on a framed photograph on her bedside table. "It's time, Sally. I'm leaving for my homeland tomorrow."

Salma's eyes widened in surprise. "But... why so suddenly?"

"Circumstances have changed," Luvuno replied, her voice barely a whisper. "Family matters, you know. It's a long story, and I'm afraid I don't have the strength to go into details."

"I understand," Salma said, her voice soft. "Whatever the reason, I hope you find peace and happiness in your homeland."

A moment of silence passed between them, broken only by the ticking of the clock on the wall.

"I'd like you to start packing my belongings, Sally. Please, be careful with the gifts."

Salma nodded, her heart aching for the woman before her. She knew that leaving one's home, especially under such circumstances, could be a painful experience.

Luvuno had earlier got a call that one of her friends in Makina had passed away.

"I'll take care of everything, Luvuno," she assured her. "You just focus on yourself and your journey."

As Salma turned to leave, she couldn't shake the feeling of sadness. She knew that this was a goodbye, a farewell to a woman who had become a part of their community.
