“To attain immortality is a curse beyond all comprehension. To watch everyone you know pass on and be unable to follow them is an agony that the word loneliness fails to convey."
A man named Roderick stands in a darkened room only illuminated by a crackling fire nearby. He has hair as black as the night sky and five o clock stubble on his cheeks. His eyes are the ice blue that is rarely seen. The kind of eyes that look like the sky itself is trapped in his pupils. He wears a long black coat that touches the floor. The familiar sound of the wood sizzling brings him profound peace. It reminds him of a time when all he cared about was surviving until the next day. A simpler time, one of absolute freedom but one that had danger around every corner. A time before he found out he was Endless. A shadow stands in the doorway across from him and screams.
"You! How could you do this to YOUR children! We only act on our desires, and you kill us like this!? You are the true monster, Maker of all!" He yells. Roderick turns to see him, and his eyes shine blue. The slits in his eyes mirror a feline and he sees the intruder with perfect night vision. Lying on the ground between are five dead bodies, each one has been decapitated. Their dying faces project the feeling of intense fear. The type of fear a predator would shows when it encounters a greater one. Roderick steps forward and his inhuman body responds to his desire to end the man in front of him. Before the stranger can react, Roderick's hand is clutched around his throat. His elongated nails dig into his flesh, and he is slammed into the wall. The bookshelf smashes apart by the force of the stranger’s body.
"You are no child of mine, Cain made you. He is your Maker! Tell me what his plan for her is!?" Roderick screams.
"I’ll never betray him you fucking traitor!" he replies. Roderick grins and opens his mouth. His eyes glow blue his teeth is sharp and jagged like a shark.
"I don’t need you to, I’ll see all I need from your memories as you bleed out." Roderick replies. The man kicks his feet and struggles to free himself but to no avail. Roderick tears into his neck and begins to drink the tainted blood of his own making. The strangers’ memories begin to flood his mind as he searches for his progeny in them. Cain, the first child of the night Roderick ever made. His biggest mistake and by far the one action he wishes he could take back. Sifting through his memories if very difficult and easy to get lost in them. Searching his entire life just to find Cain takes an enormous amount of focus. Finally, he homes in on a meeting between the two of them. Roderick watches as if a specter in the memory itself, an intruder who shouldn’t be there. Cain tells the man Roderick has been spotted in Italy and that he must reach the Abbandonato estate before Roderick does. He also sees Cain hand the man a device that has a switch on it. Roderick realizes but it is too late, the man reaches into his own pocket and touches the switch on the device in the present.
"I knew I wouldn’t make it out alive but if I can possibly kill you then for my Father it would be worth it!" The man screams. He presses the switch and bombs begin to explode in the estate. Roderick closes his eyes as fiery death engulfs them both. The force of the explosions sends his body flying three hundred yards from the estate. He lands on the nearby beach at the bottom of the cliffs lifeless. His smoldering burnt body is in pieces. His arm is gone and both legs have been blown clean off. Only his torso and head remain as he watches the waves slowly crash on the beach. A piece of the mansion lands next to him and is on fire. His eye focuses on the fire, it always calmed him. He stares at the burning rubble and finds solace in his ancient memories. Before he became endless, of the love of his many lives. He remembers Raina and their first life together.
