Lucien felt her world stopped. The hum from the flowers could no longer be heard. Efthalia was staring right at her. She waited a few more seconds or minutes for him to laugh or say something that he was joking about.
But instead, he continued, "Would you give me a chance?" He was smiling and Lucien had never seen him smile so captivatingly. The glow of a golden gaze staring at her made her heart flutter.
'Chance of what?' On the other hand, her mind was in turmoil. 'Chance of redeeming? or..–'
"Chance of everything...and maybe, a chance of making you fall for me..." Efthalia cuts in. He read her thoughts.
This was when Lucien realized that he was speaking the truth. He wouldn't move his gaze away from her even when it could turn into a disaster if Lucien happened to reject him. The boldness from him made her wonder if he wasn't nervous at all.
