Chapter 22 - Chapter 21

"Mom, I am not in any relationship" May lied, hoping her mom would be convinced soon enough.

"Well, I thought not" Mrs Baker said.

"Mom??

"Don't argue with me, May. I was born before you were and if....

"An elder sitting down on a stool sees something, the child on the rooftop of an house might not see it" May groaned like it was a common thing for her mom to chirp that in a conversation especially when it involved warnings and awful words.

"You're right. I can see it. Something tells me in my spirit that you are about to do something which would change things about you." Mrs Baker said in a low tone.

"And you thought about that??" May said sarcastically. She almost laughed but she knew that if she did that, it might be her head on the floor, with bloody eyes. As scary as she thought it was, she felt it was better not to attempt such.

"Well, you have been off lately. And today's lie with your face and outfit indicating that today wasn't just another day to mark off the calendar" Mrs Baker insisted.

"Mom... Can't I choose to look beautiful?? " May asked her mom, looking more inquisitive.

"Of course, you can. It just seems a bit too sudden, you would agree with me if you weren't lying to me" Mrs Baker said.

"Mom, I told you that I wasn't lying to you and if such happened, you would be the first to know" May insisted.

"Well. Sincerely, I think I have begun to neglect you girls since I birthed Muna" Mrs Baker said then looked away guiltily from May with her teary eyes which May caught flowing down her mom's face.

"Oh mom, we are fine. You need to take care of Muna" May convinced her mom and somehow felt responsible for the guilt that she caused her mom.

"I'm fine. You girls have to do as I have taught you. Not derailing from God's path, most especially you, May. I have noticed that times without number, you try to ignore God but that isn't the right way at all. Good night. Talk to God before sleeping. See you tomorrow. Sleep tight" Mrs Baker said before leaving May's room. Once Mrs Baker left May's room, May showered and headed to bed.

Audrey phoned George when she got to his house, standing outside the gate and soon he came to unlock the gate and they both went inside the house to settle at the living room.

"Audrey, I'm so happy to see you. For a second, I thought you weren't coming over anymore. You took longer than I thought" George said with a smile as he sat on the couch opposite hers.

"But I'm here. That's all that matters." Audrey replied him, adjusting her bag on her thighs.

"Sure, what can I offer you?? Juice? Wine? Yoghurt?" George continued rambling on while switching the TV set.

"Yoghurt please. Thanks George. Can I have the remote control for the TV??" Audrey asked.

"Seems like someone is getting comfortable. Sure" George teased which earned him, Audrey rolling her eyes

"Can I have it?? My yoghurt please" Audrey stood up and grabbed the remote control from George while he went to get the Freshyo yoghurt from the fridge. Audrey decided on E Entertainment since they were broadcasting "Celebrity Game Night". She was engrossed in it so much that she almost didn't notice George sitting close to her with her yoghurt. When she noticed, she flinched a little but George smiled instead.

"So when do your parents plan on coming back home???" Audrey asked and sipped a little from her yoghurt.

"I guess after making a baby brother for me" George said.

"Geez... What do you know??" Audrey gasped.

"A lot, I plan on telling and showing you" George said seriously and rested his back on the couch.

"Wish, slow down and tell me before showing me" Audrey wasn't sure what he was talking about but knew it was safer to stick to talking. George didn't say anything else and Audrey continued watched the TV show, clapped, laughed for more than ten minutes while sipping the Freshyo faster. Soon, she looked at George to find him staring at her and studying her carefully. She was amused and speechless for a minute.

"Why are you staring at me like that? Like I am a piece of cake?" Audrey asked sheepishly.

"How many times have I told you about how beautiful you are??" George asked.

"I can't remember much but I don't think you said that many times" Audrey thought and said.

"I was wrong. I should have reminded you many times that you wouldn't be able to count. Amor, have I told you how life would be if you weren't here? Sometimes I thought of sending you some roses but it's nothing compared to those 99 roses that had grown in my heart where you constantly are. I love you so much to explain it..." George said while Audrey blushed hard.

"That's sweet. What did you eat, George?" Audrey said, smiling hard. Soon, George held her hands and pulled her close to kiss her forehead. His lips remained on her forehead for long until Audrey pulled back.

"Audrey, what's wrong?" George asked, confused

"Amor, stop. I think that's enough" Audrey said calmly, suddenly conscious that she was alone with George. She looked at his eyes and the longer she did, she found out that she couldn't breathe. The intensity in them held her still, unable to move. She couldn't comprehend what to or what not to feel.

"Sure, I understand. But you can't tell me not to hug you right" George pleaded.

"Right. George, make lunch. I'm really hungry" Audrey asked him so she could concentrate on the show about to end.

"Yes ma'am" George said. For a moment, Audrey thought he had left to the kitchen when he pulled her to her feet, taking her to the kitchen.

"But not without you" George said with a smile.
