"This is disgraceful!" Justice Assault, a hero wearing a winged headband with his initials on the front, stood from his seat and began giving the bomb boy a thumbs down.
"Hey, kid! Do you think blasting that poor girl over and over again makes you a hero?! Quit being such a bully and throw her out already!"
"Yeah!" Pink Poodle, a heroine wearing a bright pink fluffy dog costume, stood up supporting Justice Assault's claim. "Nobody wants a hero who likes to beat up helpless girls, creep! Why don't you forfeit and give her the match?!"
Soon enough, a tirade of jeers and insults were hurled at the ash blonde, who felt the veins in his forehead bulge in agitation.
"What do you think I'm trying to do, you morons?!" He snarled under his breath. Bakugo couldn't believe what was happening.
He'd thrown more than what he thought was needed to put this brat in her place, but she just kept getting back up.
Refusing to quit, and refusing to stay down! Just like-!
...
...It suddenly dawned on the bomb boy why he had such a problem with the sugarplum princess across the ring.
"The crowds getting ugly, and I don't blame 'em! Quit picking on that sweet little lamb, you heartless-!" Present Mic was cut off by a swift elbow to the face, courtesy of his best friend and co-commentator. "OW! Dude! What the heck?!"
Eraserhead ignored his partner as he grabbed his microphone and pulled down the bandages over his mouth.
"I've got a question for whoever it was that started this uproar. You wouldn't happen to be a hero, would you?"
The chants of protest stopped, with Justice Assault looking up to the commentator's booth in confusion.
"If so, then I suggest you hang up your cape and quit," Aizawa stated bluntly. "You think the bad guys are gonna go easy on her because she's a girl?"
Justice Assault shrunk under the heavy words of the underground hero.
"And to whoever said that Bakugo should just hand her the match, you're just as ignorant!" Eraserhead continued to scold. "Is being a hero some kind of glorified dress-up game to you?"
Now it was Pink Poodle's turn to flinch under Aizawa's scathing words.
"Would you let a villain get away with robbing a bank? Or take someone's life?" The quirk-canceller accused.
His mummified state doing nothing to devalue the weight in his words. "If you're a hero, you do everything in your power to stop those crimes from happening with everything you have! And if you don't have what it takes...then I suggest you start looking into a new career."
All the heroes who had come together to ridicule the bomb boy, slowly and awkwardly sat back down, keeping whatever opinions they had about the fight to themselves.
Pink Poodle and Justice Assault did the same but held a grievous amount of contempt for being talked down to.
"That was pretty profound of you, Shota..." Hizashi commented as he nursed his aching jaw.
"But, you gotta admit, he's going pretty hard on her. You said he's had problems with holding back before. What's to stop him now?"
"...I think that all depends on her." The teacher of 1-A retorted, his eyes gazing down at the battered and bruised gravity girl, who once again, was getting back on her feet.
------------------------------
Deku watched the kind girl pull herself back up again, impressed with the resilience she was showing.
The Quirkless child had to agree with what Eraserhead had said. Being a hero wasn't cops and robbers in the playground.
People get hurt, especially those who aren't ready for the real thing.
...But then again, heroes aren't supposed to be known for their lethal force.
------------------------------
Bakugo was mad... Really, really mad.
He'd lost count with the number of times he'd blown Dimples down, and yet she still kept getting back up!
He was glad his back was turned from the cameras recording all of this because the last thing he wanted was for the whole country to see the vicious snarl he couldn't keep off his face if he tried.
Ochako stumbled like a newborn fawn as she found her footing once more.
The bomb boy's irritation only grew as the gravity girl shot a defiant glare back at him, wiping the blood from her split lip.
The bomb boy snarled at her show of defiance until a sneer crossed his face. "You should listen to scarf-head, princess."
Ochako quirked an eyebrow at what he was saying.
"I could care less what those amateurs think of me. But, I'm willing to bet you do." He carried on, his wicked grin illuminated by the crackling of his quirk in his hands. "They wanted me to go easy on you. Not just because I'm a jerk or whatever, but because they don't think you can handle being a hero..."
Ururaka gulped. She told herself that this was just his way of trying to get into her head and lose focus.
And unfortunately, it was working. But before she could try to get her bearings, Bakugo went in for the kill and launched a final blow on her already fractured confidence.
"You don't have what it takes to be a hero! You should just quit while you're still in one piece! Matter of fact, you should just quit school altogether! YOU DON'T BELONG HERE! JUST GET OUT OF MY SIGHT ALREADY! WHAT WERE YOUR PARENTS THINKING, LETTING YOU IN HERE?!"
That snapped Ochako out of it.
Memories of her father's tired face and coming back home from a hard day's work flooded her mind.
Images of her mother slaving away over the dinner table, counting up how much their latest project would cost flashed before her.
The gravity girl's terrified look turned back to her focused glare from before.
The ash blonde's face turned from anger to confusion at the sight of her change in expression.
"My parents spent nearly every yen they had to help me get here..." The rosy-cheeked girl clenched her fist tight. "They sacrificed so much to help me get here. I may have been scared... but I've got too much riding on me to give up now! You wanna win that bad, you gotta get through me!"
The girl finished with a strained, but bright and hopeful smile as she got into a fighting stance.
Katsuki had grown quiet over her speech, his bangs overshadowing his eyes. His plans continued to crackle with fire, slowly growing bigger and bigger. "You're just like him...!"
Now it was Ururaka's turn to become confused, lowering her guard a little. "W-What do you...?"
"You're just like him!" The ash-blonde barked, cutting her off. "Always putting on a smile, pretending you're not worthless, saying you'll be a hero no matter what I do to you...! WHY DON'T YOU JUST STAY DOWN, DEKU?!"
"'D-Deku?'" Ochako was utterly confused by the odd name but had no time to figure it out as Bakugo came sprinting at her at top speed, his right hand pulled back and ready to fire.
The gravity girl was too in shock to move, and could only watch as the bomb boy drew closer and closer...
'"Watch out for his right hook."'
The words suddenly appeared in the rosy-cheeked girl's mind, and as Bakugo closed in, her body moved on its own.
Ochako leapt to one side out of the Bakugo's blast radius, taking the bomb boy by surprise.
As quickly as she could Ochako tapped Katsuki on his shoulder, so that when he let off his explosion, he launched himself backwards, thanks to his new lack of gravity.
The rosy-cheeked brunette was still caught in the blast, but as she rolled to a stop on the ground, she held a proud smile as she watched her opponent fly towards the outer ring.
The crowd began to cheer for the girl's supposed victory, as class 1-A collectively held their breath.
Deku smiled at the girl's quick thinking. Using her ability to cancel gravity and the propulsion of Bakugo's blasts was a thing of genius...
But he knew Bakugo. He knew how long he'd been training his quirk for.
How powerful it could be, and what he could do with it. He also knew that he wasn't going to go down this easily.
And that he wasn't going to take this humiliation well...
