There was an awkward silence, and it was apparent Faye began to beat herself up over how she didn't do more research, but it was not like I was going to console her.
"I know you brought me in here to try and kill me, which I'm saying isn't a good idea. Those Watchers will have a blade at your throat before you even pull a weapon-"
SHING
"Seems you're right," I smirked before reeling in the spear of smoke I created with [Smoke Magic] that reached across the room and nearly pierced the throat of Faye.
If the swordsman watcher hadn't pulled me back, I would've slit her throat so good that she would've bled out in an instant.
As the two Watchers proceeded to take a position in the corner of the room, relaxed but ready, I began to prepare some tea for the both of us.
"You gonna spike that?"
"Take your grand guess," I muttered before Faye chuckled and sunk into the couch.
Clearly, she already felt comfortable, so I gestured for her to continue with why she was there… though I kept the idea of rejecting anything she said in the forefront of my mind.
"Who was that yesterday? Your boyfriend?"
I turned towards her with a blank expression, but seeing as how she looked sort of nervous and almost jealous, I couldn't help but smile internally.
Let's see how she'll react.
"Yeah, and what about it? You gonna kill him?"
"O-Of course not… ahem, anyway, time to discuss the important matter at hand. I haven't explained much of you to my family yet and they're seething at the idea of me actually bringing another person to the party-"
"You told them? I thought this was going to be a dramatic entrance where you come,"
"Well… you could say it went alright,"
"Anyway, they want to get to know you, but I know you won't come for a private meeting of some sort. So, I decided I would tell you about your personality, but I was wondering if you wanted to go with something fake that upheld some kind of proper image,"
"Seriously? You want that?" I deadpanned, and Faye coughed again before speaking up.
"I-I thought it would be cute, but never mind that. Do you want to go with something cool, cold, and edgy?"
"How about something normal? Hm? I'll be kind and act like a normal person," I muttered before handing her a cup of tea which she smelled and then took a sip of.
Seems she's been trained to avoid things like that…
"That sounds good," Faye cheerily smiled before awkwardly taking out her phone and scrolling through her messages.
There was an awkward silence as I sat down on the opposite end of the couch, slowly sipping on my cup of tea while eyeing the two Watchers carefully observing me.
I looked over at Faye, who slowly turned her head, awkwardly making eye contact with me before swiftly turning back to her phone screen.
Clearly, she wasn't texting anybody as she just kept scrolling up and down her hundreds of new messages.
"He's not my boyfriend. Just a good friend who is keeping me alive,"
Faye snapped her head back towards me before blushing ever so slightly as she fell right into my trap.
"Damn… you got me good…"
"You came here just to ask me that?" I questioned before setting my tea down on the coffee table and crawling over the couch to cup her chin.
Let's see if she'll be even the slightest bit entertaining.
"Do you still like me?"
Her light blush continued to spread through her face, but she had a confident expression as she relaxed on the couch even further.
She looked as if she was attempting to seduce me.
"Oh, man… I really don't like you," I chuckled before uncupping her chin and sitting back down on the pillow right beside her.
Slowly sitting up, she looked a bit disappointed, but I just grabbed my cup of tea and continued sipping on it until it was finished.
"What a waste of looks," Faye chuckled before getting up and opening the front door.
"I could say the same for you, asshole,"
"You know the date. Be at my house before six in the afternoon. I'll provide some nice clothes, so don't worry about that aspect,"
As I ripped out a cigarette, I lit it with a spare lighter and walked to the front door.
And just as she turned around to see if I had anything else to say, I just blew my mouthful of smoke directly into her face.
"Your face makes me sick to my stomach,"
…
A week had passed, and the time for this little party of hers had finally come and since arrangements like these always ended in a pile of shit, I made sure to pack some of my equipment in a storage ring.
I had been to too many parties with arrogant and clashing rich people with horrible personalities to know that somebody had arranged this to get rid of somebody.
It's cliche, obvious, and very, very boring… but I'll also take this chance to hopefully kill Faye if I get the chance.
"Welcome. The young miss has already informed you of your arrival. Please head to her room on the third floor and the second door to the right hallway," The servant said as he greeted me at the gate of her mansion.
Nothing had changed about this place.
