"I should have known, the truth was right in front of me the entire time. You liar! You don't even love me at all" Alexis read out the next line of the script in her hand and she sighed. "Yeah I'm gonna fail this assignment" she muttered and she dropped her head on the round table.
She sat in the lonely library that Friday evening. The library always closed at 6pm and it was 5:30 so there were only about six students there.
A lecturer had broken the class down into groups of two and handed out scripts which they were to study and perform with their partners on Monday.
Yeah, it sounded fun but it carried a lot of marks and the lecturer had threatened to deduct marks at every little mistake.
'asswipe!' Alexis screamed internally.
She had gone through the script about five times and it wasn't sinking in.
'this is impossible' she thought 'I can't memorize this shit'
Then the sound of footsteps broke the unending silence, interrupting Alexis' thoughts.
The footsteps stopped at her table and before she could raise her head, a pair of feet appeared under the table.
Whoever it was was now sitting at the table, directly opposite her.
"Alexis" that familiar voice called and she immediately raised her head.
"Hi" she replied forcing a smile. It was Amarr. He had a textbook and a little notebook in front of him and he stared straight at Alexis. "What are you doing at the library?" She asked.
"Oh" Amarr began with a smile on his face "just came to say hi to the lions" he replied
"Oh jeez" she rolled her eyes.
"I'm not kidding, the den is right behind isle 5" Amarr said frankly.
He was effortlessly sarcastic.
"Fuck off" Alexis replied. She was obviously not in the mood for that.
"Ok chill" Amarr began "I walked in about thirty minutes ago and I've already seen you roll your eyes and sigh like a million times" he explained "you good?" He questioned.
"Yeah, I'm just so frustrated by this assignment" Alexis replied looking down at the script in front of her.
"What's it about?" He asked picking up the script to look at it.
"It's a..." She was saying
"A script?" He questioned flipping through the pages.
"Yeah, I'm meant to present it on Monday" she replied "in front of the whole class" she added with emphasis on 'whole'
"Yikes" Amarr began with his eyes now glued to the book "Shouldn't you have a partner for this?" He asked looking at her through his lashes.
"Yeah, a guy" she replied
"Then why aren't you practicing together?"
"No reason"
"You don't have a good relationship with your course mates do you?" Amarr questioned
"I don't talk much" she replied justifying herself.
"Yes you do" he said with a short laugh.
Alexis just rolled her eyes again. She was frustrated.
"Want me to help you practice?" Amarr asked leaning forward.
"Yeah I guess" she replied with a shrug.
"Cool" he smiled and he got up from his seat.
He lifted the chair and he placed it right beside Alexis, then he sat down.
"So basically the script is just a back and forth between a guy and a girl, like a dialogue, so it should be..." He began flipping through the script again. Then he paused to look at Alexis. "There's a kissing scene in here" he said.
"Yeah"
"You're ok with kissing a stranger?" He questioned with a look of disappointment.
"Luke is not a stranger" She began "but definitely not, I already discussed it with the lecturer and he said we could skip that part" she explained "so just ignore it" she added.
"Ok" Amarr replied "so I'm gonna hold on to the script and you'll start, I'll reply you as the guy and I'll correct any mistake you make" he explained "cool?" He questioned
"Yeah cool" Alexis replied with a smile.
****
"Oh really!? I know all about your plan to move to Seattle with Christine" Alexis said.
"It's help Christine move to Seattle" Amarr told her.
"Shit, I knew it " she muttered.
"And put in some emotion." Amarr began "try again" he added.
"Oh really!? I know all about your plan to move..." She was saying but then she realized she was making the mistake again "...help move Christine to Seattle" She corrected herself.
"Take it again" he said looking down at the script
"Seriously?" She questioned, frustration obvious in her voice.
"Do you wanna perfect this or not?" He shot back raising his head to face her. "Take it again" he continued "with emotion" he added.
He was being really helpful. They were already half way through the script and Alexis was finally getting the lines.
"Oh jeez" she sighed "oh really!?. I was told all about your plan to help Christine move to Seattle" she said trying to work in some emotions.
"Nice" Amarr smiled and Alexis gave a sigh of relief "except its I know all about your plan not I was told all about your plan" he said leaning into his chair
"Are you kidding me?" She questioned "that's it, I'm done with this" she continued "thanks for helping but I'm just gonna wing the rest of the script" she added.
"No no no Alexis" Amarr leaned forward "you can't give up" he said "I understand how hard this might be but you have to keep trying" he continued "you don't want to loose the marks, trust me" he added "you got this" he finished.
Not the best pep talk but he tried his best.
They stared at each other for about fifteen seconds. Amarr had a smile on his face and Alexis looked both tired and frustrated.
"So Jake replies, that's a lie, I haven't seen Christine in weeks" Amarr began "so what's your response to that?" He asked
"Oh I'm sure of this" Alexis began with a little bit of excitement. "You liar! After all we've been through, I can't believe..." She was saying, this time with even more emotion.
Before Alexis could finish her sentence, she felt Amarr's lips crash against hers. Her eyes widened in shock.
It came out of nowhere.
Heat rose from her stomach to her chest and her heart pounded non stop.
'where is this coming from?' she thought. It was so out of the blue.
Amarr on the other hand... Well, he knew what he was doing. He was aware of his schemes.
For like the first seven seconds, Alexis resisted but then Amarr slowly ran his hand up her neck and through her hair.
She felt the tips of his dreadlocks brush her face.
Her lips parted and Amarr gained entrance but just as he did, he pulled away from her.
He chuckled as he adjusted himself in his seat and picked up the script again.
He stared at it for like five seconds and raised his head to look at Alexis' perplexed face. "Shit" he said with focused eye contact and his amusement faded away "yeah I messed up" he began.
"Amarr..."
"You should have been crying before I did that" he said cutting her short "it's here in the script" he added turning the script to her with a smile on his face.
That was the kissing scene. It was right there in the script.
Alexis was short of words. She just stared at Amarr with her mouth hanging open a bit.
'did that just happen?' she thought over and over.
"Ok y'all have five minutes more" the librarian announced breaking the short silence"the library is closing" she added returning to the book she had been reading.
"Oh, we're out of time" Amarr began, dropping the script "we still have about three more pages to cover"he continued "I'm still willing to help you but of course that can't happen in my room, can't happen in yours either. There's no way you can focus with those jackasses around" he told her "so why not let's discuss this over dinner, we could go out and do something" he added.
Alexis still couldn't find her words. She was still so confused.
"Say something" he said leaning forward.
She sighed still trying to put it all together "I'm busy tonight" she replied.
"Tomorrow night?" he questioned with his eyebrows raised.
"I have work to catch up on" she replied sharply.
He leaned into his chair with his arms folded. "Touche" he said with fixed eye contact.
'yeah that definitely just happened' She thought
'shit be getting real'
