Chapter 13 - Week 13: What's Magic?

You ask Kore to continue leading you to the arena.

Kore: "Sure, Would you like me to start now explaining how magic works, or explain as you see it while we are in the arena?"

You: "Please explain now, I'd like to be mentally prepared for what I'm about to see. I also would like to know in case I end up being able to use it."

Kore: "Alright, first I'll start off with the elements. Their are 4 core elements, 2 auxiliary elements, and there is rare personal magic. The core elements are Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The Auxiliary elements are Light and Poison. Also, as far as personal magic goes, that will consist of spells outside of those elements and such spells can only be used by those who have been blessed with them by the gods. Thankfully for most, the item box spell is blessed on someone when they become an adventurer while not having any unsavory reasons for becoming such."

Kore: "Now, you can do spells from any core or auxiliary element whether or not you have an affinity for it. However, if you do have an affinity for an element you will be able to cast spells of that element easier and while using less mana. The chances of having an affinity in any one element is 25% for each of the core elements and 10% for each of the auxiliary elements."

Kore: "Mana, as I expect you likely already know, is the energy for which magic is created. This energy can be found inside of everything, even in the air around you. However, as those in this world world don't understand that enough, they only use mana from inside their bodies... if you can learn to use the mana from the world around you, the only strain you will end up with is the mental strain from the concentration needed... such is a good idea due to the fact that in this world if a body is devoid of magic the soul will leave and the body will die."
