Much like it was described even the aura of a powerful elder dragon wasn't enough to make the monster flee from it's not so hidden spot. 'Honestly if this thing didn't have that glowing antenna and didn't disturb the sand every time it breathed it would be way harder to spot.' Alex thought as he got within eye shot of the monster. Carefully feeling out the currents of the water Alex started to reposition himself so that his toxin could be pulled towards the gobul from a distance. Alex wasn't stupid enough to think that the gobul wouldn't realize that he was the source of the attack on it.
He wanted to be sure there was a good distance between the two of them in the off chance it were to turn aggressive. Once he was in a good position Alex carefully pressed his claws together like he was praying which let him start secreting the toxin into the water like a rapidly growing green cloud. From there the ocean current did it's job and carried the terrifying substance straight over the gobul and into the distance. The monster held it's breath at first but since Alex was constantly producing and secreting more of the toxin eventually the gobul took a deep breath of toxin filled water.
Alex physically tensed at this moment in preparation of whatever the gobul's reaction would be. He breathed a sigh of relief when the monster merely shuddered in place as the poison took hold of it without leaving. What Alex was unaware of was that the gobul was stuck with conflicting instincts at the moment. One instinct told it to remain still and Alex would eventually leave since it was not the target of the attack. The second instinct was to run away since it was in danger from the poison.
Alex's distance from it was what had deceived the monsters instincts into thinking it wasn't being attacked even though it was. Unfortunately the gobul's self preservation instinct kicked in far to late as by the time it won out over the other two the monster was unable to move quickly and had lost the functioning of it's lungs. Alex watched on coldly as the gobul started to gape it's massive jaws in an attempt to breath but fail and slowly die from suffocation. It was only after the beast stopped moving and he saw the light in it's eyes start to fade that Alex approached.
Roya had followed Alex out to this location in order to hopefully make some sort of actual tangible progress in her study of him. But after watching the terrifying and horribly patient way he dispatched the gobul she really wished that she hadn't. She knew she had certainly made progress from watching this event as it gave her a few pieces of information that were fairly important. But the cold and callus method Alex used left a whole different feeling behind than when two monsters brutally rip into each other.
Alex didn't pay the faintly traumatized woman any mind as he carefully dug his prize out of the sand. It was a rare thing when a monster died without any wounds on it's body so Alex was being very careful not to cause any while retrieving the corpse. Once the corpse was exposed Alex carefully hooked his tail through it's gills and began to carefully tow the limp corpse back to astera. Jaws dropped when he walked onto the docks with the gobul being dragged behind him as no one had expected it at all.
Sure it was public knowledge that Alex had discovered that they had the thing living nearby astera by the reef , but no one expected Alex to go kill it and bring the corpse back. "You got me at a bit of a disadvantage here sid , what am even supposed to do with this thing?" The foreman asked with a minor headache. 'Seriously this guy seems to make it his mission in life to keep me on my toes.' the man thought with slight irritation.
