"Are you done changing yet? I swear it's like you have a different look every time I see you." the admiral said sarcastically. alex merely smirked at the man "no , of course not because that's just too much to ask for apparently." the man complained and alex just chuffed at his antics. while this whole conversation was going on alex was letting off a cold temperature making the inside of the tent nice and cool. this was a huge difference compared to outside the tent as it was in a volcanic area filled with lava.
The admiral wasn't going to complain about about the temperature in the tent however as the last time he did alex raised the temperature to even hotter than outside somehow. compared to being hot being a little cold is far more enjoyable and fixable. the man might seem like a savage with his rough way of acting and speaking but he was terrifyingly smart if you really paid attention. he usually only needed to be told any piece of information once to memorize it for later use so any lessons he gets taught he memorizes and learns near instantly.
It was for this reason he was chosen as the admiral for the research commission in the new world along with his trusted partner who was assigned the feet commander. if it came down to it he could and would take charge of the commission and wield it like a weapon at whatever the issue was. much like alex however the man had a bad case of wild heart where he simply thrived best when out in the wilds. for alex it was due to his monstrous instincts and drive to grow that made it impossible for him to sit still.
In the admirals case it was simply because he was an adrenaline junky and being in a civilized place bored him to tears. the man felt he had found a kindred spirit in alex which was why he was so attached to him. he had confided in alex that he could feel time dragging him down but refused to simply grow weak and die of old age so while he still had strength he would hunt until it killed him. alex couldn't blame the man as it was likely a terrible feeling to realize that everything you had worked for and enjoyed was slowly slipping through your fingers.
Alex thought about gaining a rejuvenation ability but decided against it since as much as alex enjoyed the mans company he didn't plan on tempting anyone with the prospect of immortality. there were far to many stories about people going to extremely cruel and terrible lengths to get immortality. all it would take was the wrong person to notice the admiral living far longer than he should have without aging to force alex to hide himself. even if facing alex meant absolute death flocks of people would still hunt him for the merest chance at immortality.
A seemingly immortal dragon is not a new thing in this world as some elder dragons were shown living for thousands of years. zorah magdaros was considered one such dragon as the very same one that came to the new world to die showed up in the guilds records hundreds of years ago. but if a person , a human no less , showed up today who was alive for the same time frame the world would get sent into a frenzy to learn the secret as well as acquire it. in the end it was simply better to let the admiral live out his natural life span before he undoubtedly gets killed by some sort of monster.
Alex idlily wondered if he would grow weary of living after a long enough time and just permanently hibernate lost until someone disturbs him in the future. the funny thing is that this had been the exact thing that lead many stories about demon lords to happen. some unknown evil slumbered for thousands of years before some unknowing person stumbles upon them and wakes them up. though in this case alex thinks he might just squish the person before going back to sleep , a thought that makes him chuckle mentally.
