Chereads / Kumo / Chapter 9 - Bones

Chapter 9 - Bones

"Welcome! Please, take a seat, take a seat." King Samuel said, as pepper, Kumo, and Utsu came through the big dining room doors.

"Oh, thank you." pepper said walking up to the table. "Here, Utsu, Kumo." pepper said, pulling out a chair for each of them.

Utsu sat down and Kumo smiled.

"So, did you sleep well?" King Samuel asked, trying to start conversation.

"Yeah, actually, I think I slept pretty good." pepper said, nodding his head.

"Mhm! I slept great!" Kumo said, with a big smile.

"I-I'm not... s-sure..." Utsu said, feeling anxious.

"Oh, that's right, we haven't met. I am Samuel T-Bone Skeletorious. You're Utsu, yes?" King Samuel asked.

"Y-Yes! That's my n-name... S-Sorry... for sh-shouting..." Utsu said, with tears in her eyes.

"She's anxious, I don't think she does well with new people. I can see her shaking from here." pepper said getting up to comfort Utsu.

"Ah, I... apologize, I've never met someone like you, Utsu, you're very interesting, indeed." King Samuel said, trying to be nice.

"It's fine, she'll be okay. Anyway, let's eat I'm starving." pepper said, sitting back down.

"Alright, if you say so." King Samuel said, as he snapped his fingers, signaling servants to bring out food.

They had all finished eating and went to talk in the lounge, it was definitely the lounge of a castle, it was beautiful, and it was massive, it even had a library nearby so you can bring books here.

"So, have you come up with a song yet, pepper?" King Samuel asked, eager for pepper's challenge.

"I'm not really a song person... sorry. This is gonna take me a while to think of." pepper said, trying to think of lyrics.

"Hmm... I see... Would you prefer to just etertain me? You wouldn't need to create a song." King Samuel offered, trying to get any sort of entertainment.

"Yes, I'd very much prefer that." pepper quickly replied.

"Great! Well, I'm ready whenever you are." King Samuel said, excited for the entertainment.

"Okay, but I'm still going to need some more time to think." pepper said, getting up and walking to the door.

"Where are you going?" King Samuel said, looking confused.

"I'm just using the bathroom." pepper said, closing the door behind him.

"Alright, I'm glad I remembered where this place is or I'd be screwed." pepper said, with a sigh of relief.

"Hmm... Yeah, I thought so, I need a shower." pepper said, looking at himself in the mirror, greeted with messy, unkept hair, and a tired look.

"Remember... I'm here... use me..." pepper heard the quiet, mysterious voice again.

"Who is saying that? It's been driving me mad." pepper asked, not really expecting a response.

pepper looked into the mirror to see the spirit that reppep used to summon his skeleton army.

"Woah!" pepper jumped up and stuck to the wall, his spider legs shot from his back.

"Do not fear... I'm yours... I'm here to help you..." The green soul whispered.

"Why are you here?" pepper asked, not really understanding why it still exists.

pepper hopped off the wall and landed on his feet.

The soul flew around pepper "When you killed my master... I didn't die... I was surprised... but I had realized that... I was now bound to you... because that is your ability... you can take the abilities of the people you kill." The soul said, slowly.

"My abilities aren't mine? I noticed before, that... I can sense people around me, especially if they're stronger than me, like King Samuel, he feels very powerful, I'd surely lose to him." pepper said, getting off topic. "But the people... I couldn't sense them before, not until after I had killed Godita, that must have been his ability." pepper explained.

"Yes... You can take abilities, just like you took Godita's and reppep's... and whoever had the spider-like ability... But these abilities have become yours... We are here to help you, use us whenever you might need." The soul said, as it spun in a small circle in front of pepper. "The skeletons that I bring... they may help you in entertaining the King." The soul said, trying to help its new master.

"Hmm... that might not be such a bad idea, I'll think about that." pepper said, as he proceeded to get a shower.

"Alright, King Samuel! I think I'm ready!" pepper said, bursting through King Samuel's door to the throne room, Kumo and Utsu appeared behind him.

"Oh? Are we now? Good." King Samuel said, with a smile of pure interest, and eyes wide with excitement.

"When I went to the bathroom and I was looking at myself in the mirror, then a friend had given me a tip on how to entertain you so that we can finally get home." pepper explained.

"Go on, then. Entertain me, or die trying." King Samuel said, getting comfortable in his throne.

"Die trying? I don't think so. Even if you kill me I'll just live another life, a thousand, or even a million, however many it takes the protect these girls." pepper said, with a threatening expression.

"I said, go on, do not make me repeat myself again." King Samuel said, as his voice sounded cold.

The green soul flew from pepper's body and went into the ground, a few seconds the floor cracked and over one thousand skeletons had rose from the cold dirt beneath the caslte.

"This castle happens to have been built on top of a grave yard, there's plenty more skeletons but I've got to conserve my energy." pepper said, catching King Samuel's eye.

King Samuel leaned up in his throne out of curiosity, he had a look of interest written on his face.

"I can tell that you're powerful. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't have to fight you, I'm sure I would have lost. I'm not sure if you have an ability, like me, I don't know if this feeling of magic flows through your bones, like me. But I know you're strong." pepper said, before he snapped his fingers and the lights went off, soon to have blue and red lights come on to follow him and his skeletons.

pepper started to dance and spin, his skeletons followed, some did their own dancing. Skeletons took off their heads and threw them up and caught them while pepper danced, they even spun their heads on their fingers. The soul, Spooky Scary Skeltons, flew around as if it were a light show.

Kumo bobbed her head to the beat that the skeletons made, Utsu had a sparkle in her eye but was too scared to enjoy anything.

After a lot of dancing, pepper had grown slightly annoyed that King Samuel hadn't changed his expression. "Is this entertaining?!" pepper yelled, incorporating it into the beat and dance. Not long after, pepper had stopped, and King Samuel rose from his throne. "Good job, bravo." The King said, walking down to pepper, who was on his knees still from a part of the dancing. "I'm not only amused, but impressed. The skeletons were a perfect touch, I happen to love skeletons, in fact people used to call me a certain nickname that had to do with Skeletons, before I became King, that is." King Samuel said, holding his hand out for pepper to grab to help pepper up.

"Really? I... I did it?" pepper said, grabbing The Kings's hand and getting on his feet.

"You did, pepper. You three may leave my world of Halloween and return to your Earth." King Samuel said, with a face of satisfaction.

"Good job, Daddy! I knew you could do it!" Kumo said, running up and hugging pepper, Utsu stood behind them.

The King threw something on the ground and it shattered, causing a purple and orange smoke to appear. "Here's your portal, you may take your leave, friend." King Samuel said, looking pepper in his eyes and holding out his hand.

"Yeah, alright." pepper said, shaking The King's hand. "Come on Kumo, Utsu, let's go home." pepper continued, grabbing one of Kumo's and Utsu's hands and walking through the portal.

The first thing they saw was a dark side walk, there's no people. "Hey, this is exactly where we went in, look at the ground... it feels... unsettling to me..." pepper said, feeling uncomfortable with the effects of the previous portal.

"I don't like it either..." Kumo said, gripping pepper's shirt.

"I can't believe it's night time already, we must have been there almost two days... I'm exhausted." pepper said, with a sigh.

"C-Can we go... home? I-I don't l-like the dark... Sorry..." Utsu said, with tears brewing.

pepper smiled. "Of course, Utsu. Come on, you two, let's go back to The Platinum Star and just rest." pepper said, already falling asleep.

"Hey! Come on, you're being slow!" Kumo yelled, with a puffed face, at pepper, which woke him up instantly.

"R-Right! My bad..." pepper said, catching up to Kumo and Utsu.

The next day, Kumo and Utsu sat on the foot of the bed talking. "Hey, Utsu, how do you feel about Earth so far? Do you like it better than Halloween?" Kumo asked, mainly trying to make conversation but genuinely curious.

"Um... i-it feels... familiar b-but... I-I don't know... I haven't r-really done much h-here anyway... I'm sorry..." Utsu said, feeling bad for not having a directly clear answer.

"Hmm... Oh! I know! Why don't we all three go to the park and look at the scenery! Maybe you'll enjoy that?" Kumo said, jumping up and spinning around.

"The p-park? Um... sure..." Utsu said, slowly, not really sure what a park is.

"I'll ask Daddy!" Kumo said, sprinting into the bathroom.

"Daddy! Daddy! Can we all go to the park? I was thinking that maybe it'd help Utsu get to know this new world better." Kumo said, bobbing her head as she spoke.

"Hm? Mhm..." pepper mumbled, with tooth paste flowing from his mouth.

"Yayyy! Let's go!" Kumo smiled, as she shouted and ran out of the door.

"Okay, Utsu, this is the park. It's quite beautiful here, the citizens really take good care of this place, so we should too." pepper said, headpatting Utsu. "So, how do we know that we're a pepper? Like, did someone tell you?" pepper asked Kumo, sitting on a bench with her, watching Utsu try to touch a flower.

"Well, usually you're born with the knowledge but you won't really understand it until you hit a certain age, and that age can be different for everyone. But if you're born on our planet then you'll probably know that you're a pepper before you even learn to count." Kumo said, looking at some squirrels in a tree.

"Wait, what planet?" pepper asked, confused about what Kumo means.

"There's a planet, I was born there, it mainly consists of our kind but it has females there too, they're mainly there just to produce offspring to make more of our kind, though more human children appear but they're usually put into slave labor." Kumo said, looking a bit sad at the end.

"That's awful, I don't really feel much towards the humans but they don't deserve that." pepper said, getting annoyed.

"Yeah... it really is awful." Kumo said, taking a pause. "I'm sure you can feel it, it was actually stronger when we were in Halloween." Kumo continued.

"Feel what, exactly?" pepper asked, to make sure he understood.

"The connection, you can feel it, can't you? It feels like one of us is far away but the connection feels strong, that's because there's a bunch of our kind surrounding one area." Kumo said, flipping herself upside down on the park bench.

"You're right, Kumo, I do feel it. I thought I was just going crazy." pepper said, closing his eyes and focusing.

Suddenly, a loud sound roars out.

"What was that?!" pepper said, jumping up and immediately checking on Utsu, who was already running towards pepper for safety.

"Daddy, look!" Kumo said, pointing past a few trees, and onto another portal.
