Chapter 2 - Breaking in

It was bedtime, a time known for its severe silence. When only the sounds of crickets can be heard, during the long hours of the night. However, things were going differently in Goran, the capital city of Greendale, where a raging banquet was being held in the court of king Alexender Roseburn.

The tables of the banquet were set in a long rows of two, filled with the best of everything nice. There were different kinds of roasted porks, lambs and chicken stews lined on the table. Well, this didn't came as a surprise, for the lords of Greendale pride themselves on the splendour of all things man made and also by nature. Sounds of laughter could be heard all over the hall during the banquet.

A man undoubtedly in his late fifties, was sitted at the farther most head of the table. He was claded in a purple silk garment and on his head was a golden crown. He stood up and raised his golden cup to the lords and ladies and waved it around slowly. This particular gesture made the noises in the banquet hall subside, to the extent that a pin when dropped, could be heard as everyone's ears were perked to here what he was about to say.

"Greetings to you all, lords of Greendale." He began "Today we have gathered here in Goran to celebrate the festival of cleansing" he continued. He then took a deep breath, scanned the lords and ladies in the room and then proceeded to tell on a tale which reminds them of the events in their history

"For a long time" he began "We humans, have lived in peace on this side of the sunset river. We farmed, tilled the land and reared animals. Life was sweet and simple then. None of us thought about forming kingdoms, or conquest, all we did was sow and reap. We were uncivilized and free. But that was until the elves came down like swam of bees, from across the sunset river, in their hordes, destroying every single living thing. Both humans and their livestocks"

Some of the lords of Greendale shook their heads in displeasure. Some even made sounds of contempt. "But, we never lost hope" he continued "Even in the darkest times, hope was rekindled. Slowly we adapted and formed strong kingdoms, capable of driving out the elves from our land". This last comment earned him a roar from the lords, who were from the look of things proud of their achievements so far.

After what seemed like a while, when the noise has died down a bit, he started "Today, we celebrate the acts of the courageous men of Greendale, who under the command of my son, crown prince Dimitri, did all they could, through the cost of blood and swords, to push out all elves under the sunset river, driving them back to their babaric homelands."

This last statement erupted a cheer from the lords and ladies of Greendale who were so proud of their achievements.

Meanwhile, seated adjacent to the king, was prince Jake Dimitri of house Roseburn, Greendale's current ruling house. He was six feet tall and wellbuilt. He has an oval face with long black hair. His looks were that of a prince witnessed only in fairy tales. It was no rumor that the Roseburns were notorious for their authoritarian attitude. Having the command of leading the legions of the armies of Greendale to the expedition of wiping all elves below the sunset river, he was exposed to be the vector of atrocities meted out to the elves living south of the sunset river as it was obvious that the elves, living south of the sunset river were defenseless and only cared about farming the rich soils of the lands, south of the sunset river.

Nevertheless, up north of Greendale across the sunset river, housed the seven elvish kingdoms. These kingdoms could not respond to the massacre of their kin, south of the sunset river as none of them had the military and might to besiege the Greendales. It has also been a current known fact, that the power and might of Greendale is a bit stronger than the powers of the seven elvish kingdoms combined.

At the mention of his name, Dimitri rose up a cup and slowly waved it around. A gesture which shows that he is the particular person that was being spoken of. This small gesture was followed by a yell from the lords.

"So tonight my lords" The king continued "Let us drink, merry and be happy for our achievements" he concluded and with an affirmitive yells from all across the room, he sat down.

While the feast resumed, Dimitri could not help but ponder on his activities during the last few months. He could remember killing defenseless elves, burning their properties in the middle of the nights and slaughtering them in masses. To Dimitri, that wasn't something to be proud of. Of course, honour is gotten when armed men are slain in battle and not defenseless little she elves and children.

While still pondering over this, he excused himself and exited the banquet hall to retreat into his chambers. Ascending the marble stone stairs, he reached the door to his chambers and found his door unlocked.

'Damn servants' he muttered to himself 'Can't they do anything right?' He was too tired to punish the servants for their recklessnes so he immediately took off his clothes for a quick bath in his chambers. In which after that, he put on a new set of clothes comfortable for sleeping and a dagger under his pillow and then he slept off.

He awoke to the feeling of something poking his neck and when he slowly opened his eyes, he was face to face with a masked figure pointing a sword to his neck.
