CHAPTER EIGHT
The preparations for the upcoming fest was still going on and everyone was excited especially Jane. She was really looking forward to this winter bliss, she hoped for a new start with her mom.
She was all smiles throughout that everyone who saw her knew there was a difference.
They were now preparing for the show. Some were practicing their skating and while some were rehearsing carol songs.
Everyone was involved in one activity or the other. No one was left out.
After being done with the preparations, Carolina helped some kids rehearse the show while Justin and Jane had a talk in little bakes.
He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes. " How are you now?"
She took a sip of her hot coco, " I'm fine. Mom and I decided to start a new." She replied with a smile.
He smiled, " I'm glad you finally figured it out."
Looking at him intently, her eyes gleamed with sincerity, " thanks for everything."
" No biggie."
" Wow Jane. We've known each other like all our lives but I don't remember you ever thanking me for anything yet a hot guy shows up in town and gives you a little advice and you're over the roof showering him with praises?" Carolina who stood behind Jane teased.
She walked forward and sat down beside Jane.
" Sorry. No offense." She said to Justin with a smile.
" None taken."
The three had a long talk that only ended after hours. They departed after wishing a' happy winter bliss in advance.'
When Jane got home, she had dinner with her mom and the mother and daughter duo retired to bed.
The sun shined brightly peeking through the curtains. Jane woke up with a yawn, got out of bed then walked groggily to her bathroom.
She took a bath and got ready. She descended the stairs, humming happily.
" Morning mom." She grinned.
" Morning dear." Replied Mrs Melody with a smile.
" What's for breakfast?" She sat on the counter, munching an apple.
" Bacon and egg."
They had a lovely breakfast and then headed to the venue.
There was a lot of chatter in the place as the people gave a finishing touch to the decorations.
The program started some minutes after six.
The place was packed, also people from the neighboring towns came with their families, Mr James included.
Jane's eyes blazed with anger seeing her dad and his new family. She stared at Mimi with bloodlust eyes that she had to be dragged away by Justin just to make sure she didn't do anything stupid.
" Why did you take me away. She's the one who caused everything. I have to teach her a lesson." Jane almost exploded with rage.
" Doing anything now would only ruin the fest and taint your mom's name. Just stay as far as possible away from her." He tried to speak some sense into her.
" Okay, but if she tries anything funny, I'm not sure if I'll be able to stop myself." She walked away.
Everything was going fine. The children had lots of presentations, including ice skating while the more older ones preformed a ski dance down the hill.
As they descended the hill, different colour lights lighten the path forming a pattern. Each move was graceful, every turn with poise.
It seemed like they were working hand in hand with the snow to give an unforgettable performance.
Finally, they all came together performing a series of turns then gliding they came to a halt.
The fireworks went off, painting the sky with beautiful colours. Everyone watched with smiles as the tiny lights spread in the sky.
" Happy winter bliss." Someone shouted and the rest followed suit.
" Happy winter bliss." Mimi said to Mrs Melody holding up a glass of wine.
" Happy winter bliss." She clicked her glass with Mimi's then gulped down the wine.
Jane watched the two chat from a corner and when her mom left, she followed her.
" Mom are you okay?"
" Everything happened a very long time ago. I'm already over it." Mrs Melody smiled.
Satisfied the duo walked home together. She glanced at her mom from the corner of her eyes, with a smile she muttered underneath her breath, " this is closure."
Turning around, she stared at the direction of the winter bliss fest venue and smiled, " good bye dad. Be happy.'
On Christmas eve, Mrs Melody woke up to another surprise. The living room was decorated beautifully. The Christmas tree stood at the end of the room, the stockings, Christmas bells, balls, lights and little stars were hanged around the tree
They both set up other things. After she was done she visited Carolina along with her mom and they all had a nice time.
Time seemed to fly fast and the girls had to say their good byes.
This Christmas was one to remember. Before she never spent Christmas with her mom. Most of the time, she'll spend this period at Carolina's place but this time she was finally celebrating the Christmas period with her mom.
They weren't alone, Carolina and her mom and also Justin and his sister were celebrating with them.
The house had a lively aura and the laughs of everyone echoed in the room.
They exchanged gifts and also had dinner together. Everyone raised their glasses to make a toast, " Merry Christmas."
Mrs Melody and Jane faced each other, " cheers... To a new beginning."
