Sam checked herself for the second time making sure she looked weak enough. She had actually asked Walter to tell the maids that she was not feeling well should Incase she was called to have dinner with the family.
Finally agreeing that she looked convincing enough, she sighed deeply. This was very tough on her considering the kind of work she did but she didn't mind as everything was all worth it.
She wasn't going to only live life and get married to some man like her older sisters did, she was surely going to make a name for herself.
And she was glad to finally be doing so, through the act of writing romance and intriguing novels but through the use of a man's name.
Like every dumb rule, Ladies weren't allowed to write books and do other things that men did as it was presumed a waste of time for them.
They were simply supposed to harbor the thoughts of marriage all the way from childhood and focus on making her husband's family grow after getting married.
Well unlike such ladies, Samaira never harbored such thoughts. She was only seventeen when she figured out something that she was pretty sure she wasn't supposed to.
The main reason why her grandmother never liked her or her older sisters.... was truly because they weren't boys.
They weren't male children who could continue the family bloodline but were instead females who could do nothing but marry and disappear completely.
" Samaira", the duchess, her mama, called out to her from the other side of her closed doors and she hurried over simply opening the door.
" How are you doing now?", the Duchess with a pair of light brown eyes just like Sam's asked as she stepped into Sam's room. She let her eyes scan through the entire room before resting on Samaira.
" It was just a slight headache Mama but I will be fine by tomorrow", Sam answered in a slow weak voice making her statement look sort of convincing.
Her mama who she had only simply inherited her brown eyes from patted her on the shoulder with affection before stepping out of the room.
" I hope you remember that we leave for Gael's Castle tomorrow, have a good night rest Sam", Duchess Lorena stated before excusing herself only to hear the door shut behind her after a soft you too.
She walked in the dimly lit hallway lost in her own thoughts. There was something up with that daughter of hers and she just couldn't figure it out.
Every one had gone to sleep for the busy day ahead tomorrow as the entire household was heading to Gael's castle in the west.
She should retire to sleep as well and perhaps during her time at the ball tomorrow she could find a good suitor for Sam and that way she would not have to worry about her any longer.
Their conversations as always was a short one because Duchess Lorena simply never showed any motherly affection around her daughters.
With a soft sigh, she headed back to her bedroom so as to join her husband.
Samaira opened the balcony doors for Walter who simply hurried in shuddering from the cold outside. She quickly grabbed her duvet and wrapped it around him but he was still shivering like a lone leaf.
" Oh please calm down Walter, it was just a mere cold. Yet here you are acting like a simple lady from the town", she queried him as she walked over to the fireplace to put in more logs of woods.
" Just because I am a man doesn't mean I don't feel.. the weather is unbearably cold Milady and trust me I do not wish such to befall on you but you may go sit outside for an hour or two and perhaps you will see what I mean", Walter replied her with hidden menace and she smiled softly while he walked towards her only to stop and squat so he could allow in some warmth from the fireplace.
They were more than just guard and Lady, they were more of good friends who had simply watched each other grow up to become who they were today. She a twenty one year old lady and him a twenty four year old man.
" Your mama might consider finding you a man to marry at the King's ball tomorrow", he said softly in regards to the ball being thrown in Gael's castle.
" Well... I'm just going to make sure she fails on every attempt", she replied with a scheming look on her face and Walter couldn't help but chuckle lightly.
"You always remain my devious little lady", he stated softly letting out a soft sigh and she smiled on hearing that.
They both sat in silence for the rest of the night talking about her adventures earlier today till the candle lights died out and the fireplace remained the only source of light.
