Chapter 4 - Cast A Spell

"W-what was that?" Raziel asked, surprised.

"Shit they're here," Valhoon exclaimed, turning his head left and right. He was too immersed in the conversation with the girl that he couldn't sense them coming.

"Who?"

"Shut up," he ordered, using his thumbs and forefinger to hold her lips together. It was either they heard her or smelled her. It was impossible for them to feel his presence since he doesn't have any scent

They have to leave this place. He stared at the girl, contemplating whether to leave her here to her fate or take her along. If he does that, she was going to slow him down, and if he doesn't, the vampires would definitely kill her. Now that the poison in his vein has dissipated a little, he would be able to take down a few vampires, but with her tagging along, he wasn't so sure.

Valhoon could sense they were closer to the cave and they were coming in full force.

"Is there another exit here," he asked softly, removing his hands from her lips.

"It's a cave, so it would have only one exit," she answered.

"Come with me," he ordered, taking his staff from the wooden bed and dragging her along with him and they both came out of the cave. He carried her in his arms and ran deep into the forest with inhuman speed.

Valhoon stopped for a while and his ears tingled. They were close and he couldn't go faster than this, or else the girl in his arms might die from cold.

"W...what happening? Put me down," Raziel cried, shivering from the cold.

"Stay still, else I'll put you down for millions of vampires to feast on," he threatened, looking into her eyes. He at least hoped this threat would make her shut up and stay still.

"V-vampires? But I heard vampires don't walk in the daytime."

"That's what they wanted you to believe, little girl," he answered.

"So are there v-vampires in this forest? I've never seen anyone here before."

"They were after me, but now, they are after both of us," he informed.

"W-what? But I did nothing wrong, was it because I saved you?" She asked. Her mind was telling her she had made a very huge mistake by helping him and it was going to cost her. So he was a bad person after all. Her mother and siblings would be looking for her by now, what was she going to do?

"Stop asking foolish questions and stay still," he answered, sternly, getting ready to move again but before he could do that, he heard her panicked voice again and he sighed.

"M...my family put me down. What if the Vampires find our cabin and do something to my family?" She asked, struggling in his arms and her tears threatening to spill out.

"You're a witch right?"

"Yes," she answered hesitantly.

"If you are, then don't worry, your family would be able to save themselves by casting a spell. So now stop struggling and keep shut, unless you want to be someone's meal today," he said before he started speeding again. Damn, they're close. He might not be able to run far before they get to him. He has to do something before they get to them.

Valhoon stopped and put the girl down on her feet. She bent a little, rubbing her arms and shivering like a leaf.

"Cast a spell quickly," he said urgently.

"Spell? W...what?"

"Do as I say already, redhead. Cast a shield spell quickly," he repeated, this time more urgent than the former.

"I don't know how to cast any spell," Raziel answered, shakily. So this was the reason why her mother has always tried to make her learn those spells. Being a witch is accompanied by knowing those spells and learning how to cast them but in her case, she doesn't know them nor can she cast them. If she knows those spells, she could have been able to save them from the vampires chasing them as he said. Her heart was beating loudly as she heard the distant footstep of multiple people she guessed were the Vampires. The wind blew, leaves flew and she blocked her eyes from it. If she manages to get out of this trouble today, she was surely going to learn those spells as if her life depends on them. Every single one of them.

"What did you say?" Valhoon asked with his brows drawn together.

I-I don't know how to cast any spell."

"Are you not a witch? Even a twelve-year-old, knows how to cast a shield spell, how come you don't?" He asked weaving his hand into his hair in frustration. His patience was running thin and she was the problem right now. If she can't cast a spell, then he'll have to fight the Vampires and a fight between vampires is not something a petite girl like her should witness. She might just die even before he takes down one of the vampires. He tried to consecrate his hearing and find out if they were close and damn, they were just a thousand meters away from them and for a vampire, it would take less than five minutes for them to get here.

"I didn't want to learn because it takes too much time and energy," Raziel answered. Tiny droplets of tears blinked from her eyes as she stared at the ground in shame. She thought back to her parents and sisters and could only hope they were safe and that they cast a spell to save themselves. Her mother would probably be pacing around, worried about her, mostly because she can't cast a single spell for protection. She was such an unfilial daughter.

"If you don't know how to cast a spell, what are you a witch for then? Being a witch isn't just by the name, it's about one's power and how well one could cast a spell. Are you that dumb?" Valhoon scolded.

"I'm not dumb, and it's your fault for putting me in this dangerous situation, I was on my own when you came from nowhere with a purple body. I was so nice and I helped you but you keep yelling at me. I know right? I shouldn't have helped.....," Raziel said, raising her voice a little and looking daring. She stared at his blazing eyes and all the other words got buried in her mouth.

"S-sorry," she muttered and he sighed but in the next second, panicked as the thousands of vampires came into view.

"Ahhhhhhh," she screamed, closing her eyes and clinging to his arms tightly. She uttered some words and just then, a circle-shaped bubble formed and circled them, serving as a shield and making the rogues unable to see them.
