The anime begins with a serene view of a mountain village where a boy named Yuto lives with his grandmother. Yuto is a cheerful boy who loves exploring the woods and playing with animals. His grandmother, who is his only family, is his best friend and guide.
One day, Yuto's grandmother meets with an accident while on her way to the market. Despite the best efforts of the local doctor, she passes away, leaving Yuto alone and devastated. As per his grandmother's wishes, Yuto decides to move to the city to pursue higher studies.
