Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The next day, I plan my routine. Work on throwable stones, grab a ton of bats, kill some if I need to, prepare myself meals and eat, improve my skills, eat, then sleep. It was… a surprisingly good routine. And, I discovered the inventory, which isn't actually mentioned as much in the TV shows I watched, but it made my life easier in storing all those bats and stones.

"My toxic resistance reached max level yesterday," I say casually as I bite off bat meat. It's only been two days, but I've already gotten used to this way of life and think of the times in the modern world as long ago. "I wonder if it can exceed the level of ten though…"

I found out that the max level for skills is level 10. It may seem a bit low, but it's perfectly reasonable since it's hard going a level higher. With all of the sharp stones I've made in a span of around three hours a day, I've only gained an extra level for Craftsmanship. But, I was able to gain another fresh bucket of water. It seems that's the reward for every level, so I'll have to adjust my routine so that I can gain levels faster.

I walk further away from my base to find more enemies to hunt down. After my third day, I realized that most bodies become missing. It's probably a predator taking advantage of my presence in this cave and taking away my meals.

I stop in my tracks when I see a pack of animals, specifically, wolves. I hide behind a large rock, sweat going down my forehead.

"What the hell?" I thought. "I didn't know wolves lived in caves… And since this isn't the normal world, that means that these wolves are much more dangerous! I have to get out of here…"

I stand up to run away, but I freeze in place when I hear a far-too-close growl near my ear.

"Shit."

I enhance my legs to run a bit faster to absolutely book it. There are a total of six wolves; I counted, and I can't possibly face all of them at my level. My only option is to run as fast as I can.

Unfortunately, I can't outrun them. Some of the wolves easily catch up to me and pounce immediately, biting my skin and making me fall on the hard ground.

"AGH!-" I shout. "ADAPT!"

My bones are getting crushed! How hard can these damn wolves bite anyways!? My shoulder is surely going to give out on me if it continues like this!

One of my sharp stones appears in my hand. With a scowl, I stab the wolf continuously before another one bites me on the leg.

"MM!" The wolf whimpers as I stab it. That's what you get, stupid wolf.

I activate Adapt again, bringing out another stone to finish off the wolf. I sit up to destroy the head of the wolf biting my leg, instantly killing it. It goes down to the ground with a thud, still grasping onto my leg. I breathe heavily, but I know this isn't the last battle I have with the wolves. I quickly escape the wolf's mouth, wincing as I bring the sharp teeth out of my leg.

I stand up, hands and stones bloodied and my legs wobbly. I slightly heal my intense wounds to prevent blood loss. I stare at the dead wolves.

"Jesus…" I mutter. I look up and quickly gather the corpses of the wolves and run away. "Those wolves will find me soon. I need to think of a plan!"

My bite resistance went up five levels. That's unusual since all other skills take such a long time to level up. Maybe the sheer force of the bites from these wolves is that strong…

I see a narrow entrance, but I don't know where it leads. At least I have a plan forming in my head.

I make my way through the narrow entrance, chipping off some of the edges. I bring out half of my sharp stones, piling them next to me. The entrance itself is very thin, I was barely able to fit through it even when I entered sideways. I made a wider hole where I'll be able to fit my hand through… So that I can do this!

Three wolves come running, most likely planning to attack me by biting through the stone! But, my plan is foolproof!

I concentrate all of my senses into my eyes, throwing one of the stones at one of the wolves. Time slowed down, my senses seemed to be higher, and my perception flew through the roof! The stone perfectly enters the head of a wolf, killing it in an instant. In a zone, I continue this charade of throwing until I kill the wolves.

"I've gained a perception skill," I note to myself as I open the status window. "And I've earned proficiency in throwing… I amaze myself sometimes."

I prepare to throw another sharp stone at the last wolf. It's large, with darker fur and red eyes. I exhale as a way to calm myself. I can defeat this wolf.

As if I was playing darts, I held out the sharp stone. The wolf goes closer and closer… And then-

"Do not worry, human. I will not harm you."

… What?
