Blood was spilling from the wound, and Doctor Lou was desperately trying to suppress the excess bleeding. He asked for clamps to stop the blood from moving as a temporary solution so he could find the cause behind the spontaneous blood loss. Lia watched as he kept searching for a place to place the clamp. She could understand his confusion since a few vital organs could have been nicked by the bullet.
She looked around and found a small speaker attached to the wall with a button. She figured if she talked into it then they would be able to hear her. She went to it and spoke, "Based on the position of the bullet, it would seem like the small intestine was grazed when the bullet went in. The bullet was most likely still lodged there and was keeping a lid on the hole." It had been like a grenade, once the safety lever was released the grenade would explode.
Doctor Lou nodded excitedly without asking where the voice had come from. It may have been an angel, he thought. The voice had come in his time of need and he appreciated it. She was right, he noticed after thinking about it clearly. He measured the wound and found that the lesion was only one cmm long, so he began the procedure of primary closure.
The arthroscopic extraction surgery went smoothly from there. The blood donated was enough to be transfused throughout the surgery. Little by little she watched as her blood went into him. Transfixed, Lia stared at the bright red blood that was so different from the golden color she had seen when she was a child.
For three hours, she stood and watched the surgery in motion, it would have two hour normally, since removing a bullet usually took an hour but since there were complication removing the bullet that hit the patients stomach, it took an extra hour.
Finally, the surgery was over and Lia walked out of the viewing room to go search for the operation director. She made her way to the elevator and pressed the button for the fifth floor. As the elevator doors were closing, she saw Doctor Lou walking towards her with the intention to get on the elevator. Lia saw him and gave gave him a nod in greeting before the doors closed.
Doctor Lou stood in front of the elevator, stupefied. She had clearly seen him and even acknowledged him and hadn't kept the elevator doors from closing. What an infuriating woman. He had never received such treatment before. He was so handsome and sought after. "Hmph, I will go search for the angel who helped me earlier."
He turned and made his way down the stairs, forgetting that there were two elevators on the floor in his anger. Later, when he realized that he had walked down the stairs when he could have taken the other elevator he would spit out his coffee in indignation.
Lia made it to the fifth floor and followed the arrows on the walls that pointed to the directors office. She knocked on the door and heard a smooth voice call out, "Come in."
Lia opened the door and walked in. The office was decorated in dark tones, which was completely different from the rest of the hospital. The lighting was low and warm. Brown leather couches leaned against dark grey colored walls.
Although, the director was a man in his forties he looked like he was in his late twenties. His long pale fingers held onto a pile of files as he sat behind a desk. His black hair was perfectly styled and he looked rather elegant. Lia wondered why all the men she had met today were so physically attractive.
Walking further into the office, she stopped in front of the desk and waited for the director to look up from the files he was studying. After a minute, he looked up and quietly looked at her. Lia nodded her head and introduced herself. "Hello, I'm the new resident hire. My name is Lia abbott."
He studied her for a few more seconds. "Yes, I remember you from the applications forms. You were top of your class, were you not, Miss. Abbott?"
"That's correct, Director-" She realized she did not know his name.
"Novak." He said calmly as he leaned back in his seat. "I noticed you interned at another hospital, so why did you change hospitals for your residency?"
Director Novak most likely knew of the reason, having most likely investigated her before making the decision to hire her. "I needed a change," she said simply, not willing to disclose everything all at once when he already knew. From his name alone, he probably held a lot of power. Also, the hospital was named Novak hospital. She didn't really care how much power he held, she was here to introduce herself and to ask who her attending would be.
Director Novak quietly observed her and realizing she wouldn't say anything else on the matter he let it go. "You will be working with Doctor Lou for a year before being evaluated to see if you're a right fit for this hospital. Once you pass or fail the evaluation you will either be released to work on your own, or you will be dismissed."

Doctor Lou sneezed and thought someone was talking about him. "Ah, its most likely my angel," he said, full of delusion.

"Alright, thank you for your time Director Novak." She quickly thanked him and turned to leave.
Right before she got to the door, his next words made her halt, "I heard you donated blood to help my brother, Miss Abbott."
Lia felt her muscles tense, the words weighing her down. Her brows narrowed and she held the door handle, "I hope this is kept a secret, Director Novak."
He ignored her words, "I'll compensate you."
"You can compensate me by pretending you don't know who helped your brother."
Tense silence followed in the next few seconds before a sigh echoes through the office. "Alright, Miss. Abbott, I'll pretend I don't know. Please, pretend my brother also didn't need golden blood to be saved." His words were veiled with threat.
He was trying to protect his brothers secret, she realized. He most likely had already threatened anyone from the surgical team to keep their mouths shut.
"Of course, Director Novak. We have nothing to do with each other." She said with no infliction in her voice, before opening the door and walking out.
Director Novak stared at the closed door long after she had left.
