「You have learned the spell 'Attunement'」
「Your attribute 'Assimilation' is activating」
「Your attribute 'Assimilation' is enhancing your magic spell 'Attunement'」
Oh boy
With my recent discovery, the constant gust of wind that continuously slapped my face and whipped my back disappeared. Without a second thought, I could feel myself descending–rapidly at that. A scream tore from my throat.
That bitch…!!
Turns out, I was not actually falling, just hanging on the air like a clueless idiot. Not only did she use her magic to throw me into a pit, she used that very same magic to keep me in a state of perpetual flight. I should think more about this later.
Okay, enough escapism. I really should deal with this
True, I was not suspended in midair anymore. I also did not have the constant updraft that kept me from falling to my death. This meant I would have to face the fact of actually falling into a pit of absolute darkness.
For now, I activate 「Night Vision」. I had turned it off unconsciously when I was starting to lose my mind earlier.
With my vision regained, I was able to examine the pit more clearly. It was exactly like I expected.
The pit was all rocks. It was a circular hole with earth in all sides. There was a bit of moss here and there, so climbing is probably not ideal. There were also monsters in the openings that most likely lead to the inner depths of the labyrinth. Though, there was mostly white thread hanging around everywhere. This meant one thing:
I needed to get the timing juuust right
I turn my attention back down. I spread my arms to slow my fall somewhat, not actually being able to tell the difference between this and normal falling. My gaze falls on the first thing I saw after turning on 「Night Vision」.
It was white, the center point stretching across the inner edges of the pit. The monster who made it was probably humongous too, by the looks of it, if it can make something like that. The design of the creation was functional, the creator must have been quite skilled to have made something so perpendicular and practical.
A spider web.
My head calm and composed, I pump mana into my body. My body heats up form the mana being woven into a spell inside of me, though nothing happens, no matter how hard I try. It did not work. Scratch the calm and collected part.
…Excuse me?
Turns out, my magic circuits were burnt out. I tried to weave another spell inside my own body, but alas, the same thing happens.
「Your skill 'Instinct' is warning you」
It did not feel right to continue, so I stopped. My circuits felt like glass on the verge of breaking, like a vase on top of a bookshelf. No matter how you look at it, disturbing it was a bad idea.
I focus on myself instead, feel for any wound or injury. I was heavily wounded when I got here, several bones being fractured or broken, maybe even dislocated. Not to mention my numerous bruises and cuts from fighting the bats.
As if to betray my expectations, none of them were there. My body was rid of any and all injuries that I previously had. In fact, I felt great, like my whole body was brimming with energy. I did not know how this happened, but I was nonetheless thankful for the result.
「Skill 'Instinct' is warning you」
A loud hiss echoes in the pit. It fills my ears and the rest of the space surrounding me.
Looking towards one of the many openings in the pit, I follow the source of the sound. There I saw a creature of disgusting proportions. It was big and gross, not exactly the best combination of words.
Truth be told, I prided myself in being able to stomach disgusting sceneries. Growing up in the slums in my old world were not for nothing. I had seen my fair share of grotesque imagery, whether that be intentional or not.
The beast had eight sharp legs, each one hairy and ending with a sharp point. Similarly, it also had eight white eyes. It had a wide cephalothorax and long abdomen. Caught in it's mouth seemed to be a creature unfortunate enough to be it's prey. The spider lifted it's large body and stared at me with it's eight terrifying eyes.
To be honest, I was not particularly fond of spiders. With the Fall of the World that happened just before the foundation of Atlantis, most fauna, plants, culture, traditions and people had become extinct. So when I saw a creature that was practically a myth to me – not to mention one I was not fond of even in vague descriptions – you can bet I would be freaked out.
Still, I wasn't scared! Probably! Maybe! Definitely!... okay maybe just a little bit
My heart was practically beating out of my chest at this point. As the beast's fearful appearance got closer and closer, my mind raced for a solution. A solution that would let me avoid a fight with the beast.
It was not because of my light fear of the beast's kind that I chose flight over fight, it was the terrifying aura that I seemed to be barreling myself into. The beast's appearance was enough to make one fear one's safety with just one look, but that was not all that it had.
The beast was clearly stronger than me by multiple levels. With it's large build, I could expect strength that would at least be fivefold mine, not to mention it's numerous legs that were basically giant spears. It's thread would be a problem too. Though I have not seen it in action yet, it felt like a vital point to remember.
All of this combined with my fatigued mana circuits put me in a disadvantage somehow even bigger than the beast.
Luckily though, it seemed my backup had arrived.
"Did somebody call for me~?"
