I stick as close to the walls as I desperately try to hide myself.
"Where the hell did that kid go?!", a red-faced, white-haired man yelled in the darkness of the alleyway.
I shifted to the left, making myself as small as possible.
If I get caught now I'm dead, I repeated to myself once again, trying and failing to calm my nerves.
I was currently in the back alley of a famous restaurant. Not to shop, of course. I had nowhere near that kind of financial leverage. Besides, it's not like I can't eat fancy stuff just because I'm dirt-poor.
The geezer manning this place-Gerald if I recall-looked around some more, looking through every nook and cranny of the dilapidated alley.
"I know you're there. Come out if you don't want to get handed over to the legionaries!", the geezer said as his eyes darted across the enveloping darkness.
I tightened my grip on the sack behind my back.
I can't let him catch me, if I were to surrender here now, I doubt I would ever see the light of day again.
Moving slowly and carefully, I made my way through the garbage infested alleyway, making sure not to make any kind of noise possible.
I make my way to the connected road, ignoring the suspicious stares and dirty looks of the passing civilians. The irritating sound of a familiar tune entering my ears.
"The city of dreams, the land of hope, the culmination of humanity's knowledge all joined into one, ATLANTIS! Here ALL is welcome, ALL is appreciated, and EVERYTHING you could ever want and MORE!! Sign up now to get a level 7 citizenship, and a chance to become one of our esteemed legionaries!"
The ad exclaimed with vigor and excitement, earning a collective groan from everybody unfortunate enough to hear it, me included.
I made my way over to the pawnshop, carrying my large sack of silver utensils and expensive decorations from the fancy restaurant. A slight smirk forming on my face.
Looks like I'm eating good tonight.
