Chapter 11 - A punch in his gut

Haruki, seeing the fear in the young man's eyes, raised his head hoping he will see the same in the eyes of that man so he could rest with the conclusion that he had proved his point but he saw no atom of fear and that warmth did not leave those brown eyes.

Haruki swallowed unwilling to break the gaze until the man chose defeat only to hurry to the side of the bleeding young man he had just stabbed.

The feeling that overwhelmed Haruki from that sight felt like the weirdest blend that he could not understand but he was sure deep down that he did not want the man to worry about anyone else, he did not want to see that concern directed at someone else.

Haruki who had concluded that the man was high on some drugs for him to be that bold had to conclude that they must have injected something into him that caused all the 'madness' he felt.

The madness only intensifies as he saw the man try to stop the wound from bleeding. He felt so betrayed he was sure he won't feel that way if he got stabbed by one of his closest aides thanks to the years of training, he had to undergo to become the chairman.

"Who is he?" Haruki asked standing up. He walked closer to the window to avoid that sight. He tried to focus on the beautiful landscape of Greenland, the lake, trees, and the mountain outside the ceiling-in-floor window.

"Hiroshi Yamamoto, he came instead of his father," Kiyoshi replied walking closer to Haruki as he signaled to the young doctor to leave.

Haruki moved his gaze from the scenery outside the window to the man that looked too handsome to be a doctor. He had known he was a doctor with his statement about the surgery he performed but hearing a confirmation made it weird.

The man looked like a successful actor with so many directors trying to cast him. His charisma and build were for the appearance he had seen in any doctor and staring at the man, he felt the man looked slightly, very slightly familiar but due to how unbelievable it was, he concluded he simply looked like his father, Dr. Yamamoto who was the father of his closest friend from his past as well as his doctor for almost a decade.

"It will be my job to see to your health for the time being until my father recovers well enough to return," the doctor stepped closer when the injured young man Haruki stabbed was taken away.

When Haruki turned to look at the man, he bowed deeply to Haruki. The confidence, fearlessness, and handsome appearance of the man were blended with the slight presence of respect towards Haruki.

But when Haruki was feeling glad about seeing that, he was unable to keep staring at the doctor as his gaze moved to the man's finger which had no wedding band before turning away to look outside the window again.

"Your father left his post as my doctor without permission. I guess he does not see the need to show necessary courtesy," he said with a hint of disdain that he voiced out adequately. He hated that he did not want to see the man's reaction as he said that but he continued to stare out of the window.

"I apologize in my father's stead. He collapsed while at work and has been in a delicate state that would have jeopardized your health if he came to perform the surgery."

He could hear a hint of sadness in the man's voice when he spoke of his father but he tried to ignore it as he spat out, "Irresponsible."

"I am sorry, I should have called to inform you as soon as he collapsed but I was busy trying to safe his life."

Haruki's brow furrowed trying to detect the sarcasm absent in the man's tone even as his words scolded Haruki indirectly. There was no way he could punish a son for saving his father's life.

He felt like he had been playing a game the young doctor started from the moment he opened his eyes and he just happened to lose. The assistant succeeded in dragging the brave doctor out of the room when he noticed Haruki was in a foul mood which was usually undetectable normally as he seldom changes his expression.

Haruki walked into the bathroom to clean up. When he walked out of his room fully dressed and ready to leave for the city since the weekend was over, the doctor was at the door equally dressed in a new attire.

The man stepped forward and Kiyoshi tried to stop him but the man was faster as he stood before Haruki. "Can't you wait for a while before going back to work?" the doctor asked.

Haruki raised his head to look at the bold young man. "Dr. Yamamoto must have not trained you well enough to inherit his post as my doctor, right? You obviously don't know what to say and what not to say," Haruki voiced his observation.

"I am sorry if it appears that way but it is my duty as your doctor to ensure your safety. I spent quite a while stitching that up and the last thing I want is for you to die and for me to get blamed for it."

Hearing those words, Kiyoshi did not hesitate to punch the doctor's gut hard. The doctor winced and doubled forward.

It had been a while since he saw the other side of his assistant which almost made Haruki smile as he loved the wince, he saw on the man's face he only wished he was the one who made him wince that way.

"Do not say words that could leave a curse mark on the chairman," Kiyoshi said with his usual gentle voice as though he had not just almost punched the doctor's gut out.

Haruki smiled. Alas, he won this round. He was going back to work unlike what the man wanted and the man was in pain for messing with him. He glanced at the man who winced as he tried to stand up straight.

"I guess you will need some training from Ren," Haruki murmured.

The assistant's eyes widened in horror as he thought of what training the doctor will undergo with Ren and he had to say, "I will speak to Yamamoto about the etiquette his son does not know and have him correct him."

Since Haruki truly did not want to send the doctor to his mentor, he said nonchalantly, "Make sure to do that."
