Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen: About to Leave

Time flew by during the break.

Half a month passed quickly amidst their studies.

To Luman and Adam's surprise, after only half a month, Adam had already grasped the basics of the common language on a preliminary level.

Although he still couldn't speak some complex vocabulary, expressing simple everyday meanings posed no problem.

Of course, the most reassuring thing for them was Adam's attitude towards them.

After having basic communication capabilities, Adam did not drive them away but kept them to stay.

The reason for this was mainly because they had gotten along well during their previous interactions.

Adam indeed needed some people to help him handle trivial matters and needed some followers.

Since he needed people, why not keep acquaintances?

Early in the morning, the sun illuminated the dawn.

Outside, the air was exceptionally fresh, carrying a scent of green grass.

Last night, it had rained outside, wetting the ground around which made the land a bit moist during the day, not very suitable for walking.

But Adam liked this kind of weather.

The faint sunlight falling on him, coupled with the dampness around, made everything unexpectedly comfortable.

Riding a horse through the wilderness at this time was a rare pleasure.

For someone like Adam, it was also a pleasant experience.

The only pity was that his luck today seemed not so good.

From setting out until now, he had been walking for almost two hours, but still had not encountered a single Demonic Creature.

So his harvest in terms of experience points was quite limited.

Of course, it was only the experience points.

He was still doing well in other aspects.

The basket behind him was already full.

Even on the way, Adam had hunted a giant wild boar, which had been carried away by someone.

These things alone were a great harvest.

However, for Adam, experience points were the most important thing.

"Time is running out..."

As he rode through the wilderness, he glanced ahead.

The golden hourglass in front of him was still ticking away, although slow, but always progressing.

According to this rate, Adam estimated that he had at most a little more than half a month's time left before he would have to undertake the next shift.

In other words, the day he would leave was not far away.

As he pondered, he unconsciously returned to the small town.

"How's the harvest today?"

From a distance, a rough voice reached him.

It was Derley, who had also returned with his men, happening to run into him.

"Not so good," Adam replied honestly, shaking his head: "Not too much harvest."

"Really?"

Surprise spread across Derley's face: "You look like you have plenty of prey, not to mention that wild boar, which can probably be exchanged for three or four gold coins."

As he spoke, envy appeared on his face.

It is not like Derley and his men were not good warriors, they also had weapons and armor, but their usual harvest was limited.

After all, they lacked hunting skills.

When hunting outdoors, they relied more on traps and bows and arrows.

Unfortunately, they were not particularly adept in these areas.

On the other hand, Adam, with his exquisite Archery Skill, caught a lot of game almost every time he went out.

Although the wilderness was dangerous, it also meant massive harvests for those who were capable.

Furs, meat, and herbs are all valuable commodities.

"I didn't encounter any creatures to fight against..."

Adam shook his head, explaining his situation.

Derley and the others stopped talking.

Damn, was he addicted?

Derley knew that Adam had been looking for trouble with Demonic Creatures, rushing over to wherever a magic object was rumored to be, bordering on fanaticism.

But he didn't expect his enthusiasm to reach this level.

Demonic Creatures, which most people would avoid, had become a hot commodity in Adam's hands.

Of course, they were indeed sought-after goods.

For Adam, he could extract experience points from these Demonic Creatures, which naturally made them attractive.

Players like Luman had a similar ability, but without Adam's strength to handle Demonic Creatures with ease, the consequences of acting impulsively would often come at a high price, barely worth the gain, resulting in less enthusiasm.

"It's good for a young man to be passionate."

In the end, Derley couldn't help but remain silent, only patting Adam on the shoulder with encouragement: "Keep working hard, next time a similar creature appears, I will notify you immediately."

"Alright."

Adam nodded in agreement.

They chatted for a while before going their separate ways.

After bidding farewell to Derley, Adam returned to his residence.

It was a large courtyard, originally belonging to a merchant from out of town who had encountered an accident. The property had been bought by the Town Mayor at a low price and was now used to accommodate Adam and the others.

Not just Adam, Luman and the others had also been staying here these days.

Today, Adam returned to his residence as usual.

There was a bit of commotion around.

Faint sounds of arguing could be heard.

Adam frowned subconsciously and stepped in.

Upon entering, he saw what was going on inside.

Luman and Yone Jones were also in the house, apparently doing something.

But now there were two more people in the courtyard.

They were two women.

Both women seemed to be not too old and looked ordinary, wearing a simple set of leather armor.

At the moment, the older of the two women was talking to Luman somewhat excitedly, as if arguing.

"So, this is how you sold us out? Enjoying the benefits by yourselves without even giving us a heads up?"

The older woman glared at Luman and lashed out: "Do you know how long we had to run after our last death just to make it back here? Do you know?"

Seeing the woman's fury, Luman felt awkward: "Sister Lan, calm down... "

"What calm down?"

The woman glared at him: "You were the one who suggested hunting the Direwolf, and you guys were the fastest runners!"

"We would have let that go, but now you guys are hoarding the benefits!"

"Do you guys have any integrity at all?"

"This..."

Luman and the others couldn't help but groan under their breath, somewhat lacking confidence.

The two women in front of them were none other than their former teammates.

Previously, the four had formed a team to hunt the Direwolfs together, thinking it was a sure thing. However, Luanne and her sister Lucinda had been taken down by the Direwolf first. In contrast, Luman and his partner had benefited from the misfortune, staying alive and even reaping the rewards.

Now that the rightful owners were showing up at the door, they were somewhat at a loss as to what to do.
