"I'm heading to the town square now; I'll leave this book with you. Stay here and don't go out—they don't know you're in town,"
the Paladin said as a final word of caution before hurrying out of the house. As he was about to leave, something seemed to occur to him, and he added, "If I don't come back, this book should be able to help you find where the Tidal Church is... Also, remember the promise between us."
The "Emperor" watched the Paladin go.
But he did not recall making any promise to the man. If the Paladin was referring to transporting the townspeople out of town with those airships, then the old man was probably doomed to disappointment.
The Mechanical Army was not his ally, and they might not be the rescuers the Paladin imagined them to be.
But he could not expect much from an old man who had lived his entire life on an isolated island and had never left it.
"You said before, you want to free the people of the town?"
he asked.
