Chapter 51 - Massive rare spawn

At that moment more than ever Viria wanted that sort of resource laying in wait – after all, a weapon created from a rare spawn could have some rare skills.

If he would manage to master those possible skills and put transfer them onto his new weapon...!

"Is this what love feels like? My heart is aflutter~!"

Viria chuckled to himself while diving into the pile of mole-rabbit corpses.

After all, the main new skill of his prison shiv (mole-fox bone) was the ambush hunter – the young man could not let the chance to test it out slip by.

Although with the mastery of the weapon reset to zero, the damage of the new version could lag behind the already maxed-out one, it all could be made up by that brand-new skill.

"SCWEEEEEEEE!"

The screech of the rare spawn preceded its arrival but considering that it was a few octaves lower than the sound that common mole-rabbits were making and the weight of the footsteps, it wasn't hard to imagine that it would be on the bigger side.

"SCWEEEEEEEE!"

"...!"

But still, the young man hidden amongst the monster corpses barely stopped himself from letting out a shocked voice when the beast actually showed up from one of the dead-ended tunnels.

It was enormous.

Common mole-rabbits were the size of turnkeys, this one, was straight up the size of a medium-sized hippopotamus or a large crocodile without its tail.

Putting aside comparing it to anything alive, it was a vaguely rabbit-shaped barrel with massive hind legs.

It was easily twice the size of the last rare spawn that Viria hunted.

Maybe even three times the size!

"SCWEEEEEE!"

The giant mole-rabbit screeched again before raising its head and sniffing the air while its giant ears moved in all directions listening for any intruders.

Despite being surrounded by mountains of corpses of its common brethren – and the two dead mole-foxes a bit further into the main cave – the massive beast didn't seem to smell or hear anything bothersome and simply approached the closest carcasses...

*crunch* *mlam* *gulp*

...and casually started eating it as if that was exactly why it showed up at the place.

It only took two bits for the single average mole-rabbit corpse to disappear in the maws of the rare spawned one.

Vira was staying as quiet as possible despite his heart rate skyrocketing.

The mere sight of the beast that was far stronger than anything he faced until that point was injecting adrenaline straight into his veins making his body heat up.

*crunch* *mlam* *gulp* *crunch* *mlam* *gulp*

As the young man was waiting at his spot, clenching his increasingly sweaty hand on the handle of his prison shiv, the giant mole-rabbit ate another one of its common brethren and then one more.

The creature was clearly in a great mood and if it was capable of it, it would most definitely be humming.

After all, it found so much food without exerting basically any effort whatsoever.

It was clear that the beast has spawned just recently, with its sheer size and mass, it definitely would require a huge amount of food – and some of the unfortunate enough weaker prisoners looking for easy money in the spawning grounds would surely fall prey to it.

"..."

For Viria it almost looked as if the creature appeared especially for him to test out the power of his middle-grade artifact.

But it wasn't the time for staying in the land of dreams, he had to focus.

*crunch* *mlam* *gulp*

The giant monster was approaching, hovering every single scrap of meat, intestines, bones, and fur in its wake, and Viria's hiding spot was its next destination.

The young man made sure that he has a relatively stable footing and waited still well hidden by the corpses he laid down himself.

"Scwee~"

The beast let out a content squeak, seeing that there are still plenty of grub for it to eat, and opened its jaws, aiming for the piece at the very top.

Its yellowish fangs glistened from saliva mixed with blood and...

*crunch* *mlam*

*rustle* *SHING*

Without any warning, just as the beast was about to swallow the first bite, a bloodied young man launched himself from his hiding spot straight up, slashing right at the beast's throat, burrowing and slicing through as much flesh as the length of his bladed soul artifact as he passed by it.

"SCWEEEEEGH?!"

*THUMP* *THUMP*

The beast let out a pained screech and backed off causing the earth under its feet to tremble, but it didn't fall down.

The wound was deep, but not deep enough by the standards of the supersized monster.

"SCWEEEEEEEEE!"

"Tsk."

The monster roared with its sonorous voice making Viria furrow his brows and click his tongue.

The injury that would incapacitate the common mole-rabbit merely caused the rare spawn to lower its head to push the gaping wound close.

"Say... since you are this big, you will not be very was, will you...?"

The young man's face twisted into a forced smile as he observed the enraged monster get into the very familiar position.

The giant beast was readying itself for the most recognizable attack of its kind – charge.

"Tsk...!"

Viria wasn't going to wait and see what would happen next, before the beast crushed the bloodied ground with its mighty hind paws, the young man was already bolting it to the side with all his might.

"SCWEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

"HMPH!"

*BOOOOOOOOM*

The beast showed off its bloodlust with a spiteful screech and then the rocks it was standing on literally exploded.

Forget about the speed of the common mole rabbits, the giant one was like a cannonball shot straight out of a cannon.

"BOOOOOOOM*

Similarly, when it hit the cave's opposite wall with no possible way of slowing down in time in the enclosed space, the impact resulted in a rather spectacular explosion followed by a shockwave.

As for Viria...

"Fuck...!"

The ghastly pale young man change the direction of his run with perfect timing – right after the monster locked onto him, but just before it actually kicked off the ground – allowing him to dodge the mad charge by the skin of his teeth.
