Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - It all starts with rain.

'Rain'

This is how the last day of humanity started, just like many other days on the planet, with rain.

Streets busy, shops alive, people just living their lives.

Not a single person preparing for the oncoming apocalypse that would be coming.

After all, what do you pack when it's the last day before an apocalypse?

-----------------------------------------------------

"The fucking train is cancelled. Again."

This was my casual Monday morning, almost like a ritual.

Like clockwork, every single Monday morning on my way to work, my train is cancelled,

and I have to find alternate ways of getting to work without being late, sometimes I carpool with co-workers, this one time a paid a teenager 600 yen (£3.73) for his bike so I could ride all the way to work, that time I was 10 minutes late, and docked my pay for the week.

"Fantastic, another week of running around like a mess."

Just as start to think of how I could get to work today, I see a flash or Orange come into view, and run up to me.

"Ikasu! Hey Ikasu!" I hear shouts of my name

Ah, as I look up my eyes are met with the ever-glowing express full face that is Akari Hana, how her name suits her, as her face shines

as bright as a light and her hair flows just like a flower in a summer wind.

"Oh, hey Akari."

"I see your train has been cancelled again, do you want to commute with me then?"

"Sure, that'd be great Akari."

Now, this was just as common an occurrence as the train being cancelled.

More often than not, thankfully, Akari shows up and ends up taking me to work with her, I found out during one of our talks that she appears so much because she goes to a cafe every morning before work and it is right next to the train station, which is a very lucky thing for me.

"How much work have you got today, Akari-san?"

"Not too much, what about you, Ikasu-san?"

"It's okay, just boring as all mondays usually are."

While we are in Akari's car, I notice how the rain falls onto a leaf on a tree, and the tree suddenly disintegrates.

..What? Did that leaf really just? Am I hallucinating?

I don't think I am, unless my breakfast had something dodgy in it today.

I start to slowly notice other things around me, like how a dog is looking quite strange, and the fruits at a food stall are all having stuff grow out of them.

I May be seeing things, but just incase I'm going to tell Akari to pull into a parking building.

"Hey, Ikasu, something up?"

"Uh, yeah, but how do you know?"

"Easy, your face is all scrunched up like you just ate a lemon."

Oh.

"Yah, sorry just pull into that parking building and go to the second floor, I'm going to check something out the side of the building."

"Okay, then."

As I get out of the car to look towards the streets through the gap in the building, a creature leaps out of the shadows, a human arm in its mouth, but upon closer inspection, it looks like a... dog? But it can't be, it has razor sharp teeth, even more-so than the extinct saber-tooth tigers, four giant spikes protrude out of its back, with one on the back of each of its back legs, along with two on its tail.

Its movements make it look like it's, stalking us.

"Ikasu we need to get out of here!"

'Damn, Akari is right, but we need to get underground, the rain seems acidic and it's done something to all the animals.'

"Okay, let's go, where is the nearest subway?"

"T-there should be Shinjuku station fairly nearb-by, let's go there." Akari says with a tone of panic in her voice.

As she says that, the mutant leaps at me, and manages to scratch my leg, leaving a small gash in my upper thigh on my right leg.

*GAH* I cry out in pain as bloody starts to seep out of my wound. I collapse to the ground, shaking in pain, goosebumps rising along my body, as the beast prepares another attack.

I could start to smell my blood all over my leg, but as I look up from the ground, I noticed a metal bar from the ledge of the building had broken off from the rest of it, probably from the amount of rain that has been pouring down.

Coming to my senses, I slowly crawl towards the bar, and grab the blunt side of it, as the supposed 'stalker' ran towards me, I quickly rolled over onto my back and pierced its mouth just as it came to my face, the sharp end of the metallic rod going right through the head of the creature.

I slowly get back up from whatever had happened just then, my wound greatly impacting how quickly I get up, and as I turn back around, I see Akari Hana, just standing there mouth wide open, eyes bloodshot with terror. Thankfully, as I look to her, she comes around and realises that I am injured.

"Hey Akari, where you going to do anything to help there?" I say jokingly

"Oh, oh my god I'm so sorry! I completely zoned out; Let's get you cleaned up I have some towels in the back of my car."

"Yeah, thanks a bunch Akari-san."

'Wait... Why am I not scared at all? And why am I being so casual about having a huge gash in my leg?'

Tokyo, 2030

On the 28th of October 2030, all over the world, the apocalypse began.

By the end of the first month, 75% of the population was wiped out.

Animals became mutated, and anyone they ate fell under that same fate.

Humanity became the prey.
