He held me so close to him, I could feel his heart beat so fast and that wasn't normal. That's when I realized what I was doing.
"There is a dead body in this house, and you happen to be here. Any explanation for that!?" I asked in a commanding tone as I released myself from his hold.
He looked at me and so did selena.
"She is the real killer. She killed Bernard, Flores husband" The strange guy replied.
I could feel my throat dry and my head pound.
"She's d-dead, how do I save Flores?" I starmmerd softly.
"Mark always had his eyes for Lucy, but she was in love with Bernard. She dated Bernard for 2years and didn't know he was married, then she met Flores when she bought some items at the store where she works.
She saw Flores and bernard's wedding picture on her phone wallpaper and recognized bernard...." He paused as I took in air trying to sink all this in.
" Lucy couldn't bear it so she tried to kill herself but didn't. She met with Flores and revealed everything to her.
The night benard was abusing Flores when she confronted him about Lucy, she came just in time and tried to help but ended up stabbing him." He finished.
I looked at everyone on the scene, Selena standing beside an introverted looking guy and the strange guy standing beside me.
"What do you have to do with this case?" I asked curious to know why they were here.
They both looked at him and he looked at me.
"That seems to be my business" he replied peevishly.
"I could call the cops because there 'seems' to be a dead body here!" I panicked.
I grabbed my hair with both hands.
I looked at Selena who seems to have hid a lot of things from me, she stared back at me. She looks like a total different human being.
"You can call the cops and then get asked what you were doing here in the first place" he snapped as he walked towards the doors.
That was a great comeback but I was So confused and needed more explanation but no one was willing to let me know what has happened. I turned to Selena whom has already arranged herself.
"How do you know them?" I questioned her.
She looked at me through her glasses and gave me a look that made me concerned
"I left all this a long time to work at a law firm, but I guess you can't really change who you are nor run away from it" she said as she walked out of the apartment and i followed behind.
"Atleast explain to me what just happened!" I demanded as we arrived in front of my car.
She stopped and turned to face me.
"Who are you?" I asked softly
She looked at me and then her eyes were showing different emotions and then it glowed a different colour.
"My name is Naya Hansen" she replied softly.
"Why did you have to lie about your name, or is that the only thing you lied about?" I asked scared of what her reply was going to be.
"I promise to tell you everything when we are relieved of this case" she promised and I could see her eyes, she wasn't lying.
I nodded. I drove her home and went back to the office.
I sat in my office and remembered Selena.
"I can't believe my paralegal just quit two days to the final hearing!" I said pissed because she went to work with our rivals.
"She was paid a lot of money" James replied.
He was a very good errand guy.
"Where do I find a perfect paralegal in two days" I whined. Everyone at the office look at each other confused about the whole situation.
Someone came into the law firm and they all turned.
"Hi! I'm here to see Attorney Freya" she said and everyone turned to look at me.
I dismissed everyone and we both entered my office and we talked.
"If it's for divorce I do not handle that but I can refer you to someone competent" I said to her as I looked at my computer screen.
"I have an evidence that can prove the innocence of your client" she said confidently.
"That's not possible" I assured her as I relaxed on my chair. She then stretched her phone towards me and I watched the video and this indeed was a crucial evidence.
"I will give this to you if you employ me as your paralegal" she bargained
"What!?" I asked surprised
" Do you have an experience? Have you worked as a paralegal before?" I asked her and she shaked her head indicating she had never.
This was going to be more difficult than I thought.
"I have to be your only best bet cause your paralegal just quit" she replied fully aware of the whole situation.
"Deal!" I agreed in a heart beat.
******************
"I can't believe you slept at your office!?" I hear Vanessa say.
I opened my eyes and realized it was already morning.
"Well I was super tired and didn't want to drive home" I replied her as she handed me coffee.
"Well get your ass up, the final hearing is almost here and I'm sure you've got nothing" she said. As hurtful as it sounds she was right I have nothing to clear Flores.
I drove to the detention center where Flores is. I sat down waiting for her as she walked in and sat across me.
"Lucy vandez sounds familiar?" I asked her.
I could see her eyes widen as she heard the name.
"How did you know?" She asked as tears filled her eyes.
"For goodness sake Flores if you wanted me to help you, you should have atleast told me everything!" I retorted.
"Now she's dead, how do we get you out of here!" I replied sharply and her body reacted to it.
"She's dead?" She asked as tears dropped from her eyes. The hand cuffs made sounds as she covered her face with her hands as she sobbed loudly.
I looked at her for a while until she finished crying.
"Who's Mark?" I asked her again.
She looked at me and then she looked away.
"He has nothing to do with this case!" She replied in a cold tune.
I smiled cause I knew she was hiding more things from me.
"You are making this harder than it already is. Look, I will try my best to set you free so you can start afresh and be happy all over again but I can't do that unless you tell me the truth" I said to her as I rested my forarms on the table and brought my face closer to hers.
She rubbed her hands and then she looked at me with her eyes filled with tears.
"I will tell you everything if you promise to get me out of here before they kill me" she pleaded. I looked at her and saw the desperation in her eyes.
"I promise!" I assured her.
