If Alice asked me this question a week ago I would've thought she was insane... But I legit rode a dragon yesterday.
He was allowing me to get on his back so I did so... and he took to the skies. It was so pretty and felt so free.
But why did Alice ask... Did she see me riding him? Is she part of the government trying to hide the dragons like Dilitiri told me. Dilitiri was his name. The Dragon's name.
"You drew a dragon. And you've seen him?!" Alice and Octavian smiled at each other.
"Ye why do you ask?" Alice starts studying my face as if sceptical of me. But then Octavian started. "Dilitiri is the Prince of Dragons," I stared at him shocked. I should've known that already but I guess I was oblivious to the coincidence. "And his disappearance caused quite the chaos in the world beneath." Before he could continue talking I cut him off.
"I'm sorry to interrupted but uh- What is the world beneath" Octavian smiled. My heart beat rapidly in my chest.
"Birthplace of all Dragons. And home to the Dragon Riders." He looked at Alice and continued, "Me and Alice are dragon riders, we even have Dragons." Alice glared at him and started saying that Octavian was making stuff up. But I didn't believe her. "Why are you telling me this?" Octavian looked at Alice then back at me.
"Because... Dilitiri has chosen you to be his new rider."
Alice's POV:
Is What Octo said true... Was Arcave a dragon rider? I smiled in excitement and looked at Arcave. "The Prince of Dragons... Chose me to be his rider?" Octavian ruffled Arcave's hair and asked him to lead us to Dilitiri.
Arcave led us to an old warehouse. We heard a roar from inside and entered. There he was. The Heir to Daracnia... He was beautiful in the darkness of the Warehouse.
"Want to fly us back to your place? We left our dragons there." I asked Arcave, He smiled and nodded. We hopped on Dilitiri and he burst thru the wall and shot into the sky.
Arcave's POV:
I felt free again. No one could hurt me up here. Just me and Dilitiri against the world. Octavian came up behind me and placed his hand on mine. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck and his warm embrace around me. "If you put your hand on the dragons horns you can feel a bond that no human can ever give you." He moved my hand to one of Dilitiri's Horns and I held it. Dilitiri let out a soft roar and a pulse shot through my body. The toxic symbols ran up my arm again and stayed whilst I held onto the horns. As wowed as I was, I couldn't focus on the coolness of the wind, or the freeness of flight... Just the warm embrace of Octavian. "FOCUS!" Alice shouted from lower down Dilitiri's neck. She was right I was so distracted I didn't even realise we were plummeting down. Octavian stopped embracing me and smiled rubbing his neck. "You can also use the horns to steer." I pulled on the horns and Dilitiri flew back upwards.
After about an hour we get back home. "BELLE! CLOAK DILITIRI!" Alice shouted. As soon as she said that an invisible aura surrounded him. I don't know how I could see it. But I could. I looked down and saw 2 dragons outside my house. They were more amazing than I could ever imagine...
Octavian and Alice hop onto their dragons. "You should come with us," Octavian said. " It's not safe for you here." I smiled and almost go to agree. But what about Thalia... and Mom. "I can't just leave my family..." Alice looked at me with sad eyes.
"If you stay... you're putting yourself and your family in danger" My heart sank.
"Can I at least say goodbye?" I asked and Octavian nodded. I ran inside and hugged mom.
"I love you so much... I'll miss you" Mom looked at me confused.
"Where are you going?" She asked. I tried to think up an excuse.
"His class is going to learn abroad for 2 years..." Thalia was stood at the door with a letter. She squeezed me and her and mom were crying. And so was I.
A few hours later I say my last goodbyes and join Octavian and Alice. They were waiting with their sympathetic smiles. "We'll come visit them with you as often as possible." Octavian said, it reassured me a bit. I hopped on Dilitiri and we set off into the Workd Beneath. It was large and beautiful, Other than a few wooden cabins and stables it was untouched by humans... it was everything I ever dreamed of. We headed for tge stables and I can hear people cheering as we land. But as soon as we got of the dragons everyone was deathly silent... and staring at me.
