Chereads / Sold To The Unknown Duke / Chapter 4 - the path

Chapter 4 - the path

She was deeply in thoughts of what to write. She was sitting on a single chair, with the edge of a leaf pen hanging in between her teeth, a brownish, old paper in her hand and an ink container on the table.

Ariel Dewhurst was definitely one of the most beautiful girls in the whole world. She was tall and in the most perfect shape ever, her oval face, full round lips and beautifully pointed nose was exactly what most girls would happily kill to have.

Nonetheless, her beauty wasn't something that got into her head, infact this beauty of hers made her feel indifferent in a very awful manner. She felt awkward whenever her beauty was praised or talked about by people.

In order to make herself feel less unique, Ariel would apply dark make overs on her face to make her look less pretty, she would put on over sized dresses whenever she went to the market in order to look less attractive and have less people admire. This trick of hers seemed to be working real well for her.

But why on earth would a beauty want to hide herself?

Why would she want to deprive others from gracing such outstanding uniqueness?

Why was she so different from the man in whom she was to marry?

Yet again, why was she so alike with him?

Well her beauty was great trouble for her from a very little age. She got really famous for her beauty the moment she stepped into school. This fame of hers attracted so many evil eyes and haters. Her educational surrounding became really unbearable for her due to constant bullying.

She remained quiet to all the torture and enduring to all the pains. She remained this way till Lord Edward, the duke of Bedford perfected his role in her life.

He became her friend and threatened those who dared to bully Ariel. At a young age, his mates feared his fury because he was easily quick to anger and in those moments he usually made his irreversible decisions.

He became her night and shinning armour. He walked into her life as a savior and marked a permanent position in her heart. With his help she overcame her fear and began to wear her beauty with grace and a humble pride.

She seemed to have remembered the perfect words to put down on the paper.

"Ah ha," she voiced but in a low and excited tone. She was finally releasing the pen from the clutches of her teeth.

She scrambled some words on the paper, then she raised her head up again to think of some other words to add.

What on earth was she writing down? Why did it requires so much calculations or rather thoughts?

Why did she have to revise the words in her head first but putting it down?

She bent her pretty face over to the paper to read what she had written. From the way she smiled while reading that piece of writing, it was really clear who the letter was for.

She felt really lucky to have a man like Lord Edward in her life. The kindest, most sensible and loving man that any girl would dream of having.

She believed that her and Edward were specially made for each, there was certainly no way that she was going to let her father ruin it.

So for the first time in her life, she was ready to do something that's very crazy and totally unacceptable by her own father.

'MY FATHER HAS MADE AN UGLY DECISION TO HAVE ME MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN. I REFUSED HIM BUT HE MADE IT CLEAR TO ME THAT I HAD NO CHOICE OR SAY IN THIS. I NEED YOU TO GET BACK TO ME IN THREE DAYS, I HAVE A VERY LIMITED TIME IN ORDER TO GET MYSELF OUT OF THIS DOOMED, LOVELESS AND BIGGEST, CHAOTIC romantic episode ever."

After she read it out loud, she let a smile of hope, indeed she was sure within herself that Edward was surely going to free her from this impending situation.

She needed to send this later to him before her father returned. She rushed to the stable, picked out the finest white horse amongst the others. She climbed on her at once and rode off.

"Yay! Yay! Yay!," She shouted out this word as a way to control the horse.

Few minutes to hours later...

Ariel got to the palace of Bedford. She had no intention of going in there, she was not ready. So she hung around, waiting and hoping that she would be able to get hold of the prince.

Minutes passed, yet she didn't catch a glimpse of him. She made up her mind to have one of his servants pass the letter to him.

She made a whistling sound which attracted one of the servants. He walked to her direction as soon as he saw her.

The whole servants and royal members knew that she was an important person to the duke, so they all respected.

"Good day my lady, why are you standing here, in a hideous part?"

She smiles lightly. She was aware that seeing her standing here was really awkward for him.

"I wanted to hand this later to Lord Edward but I couldn't lay my eyes on him, if you don't mind I would like you to help me pass it to him," she gracefully said out those words.

"My lordship is free right now, why not follow me in so that you can meet him or wait here while I get him for you," he offered.

"No, I see no need to stress him besides my time is up, I have to leave as soon as possible."

"Alright," he said and stretched his hand to her, to receive the envelope.

"The content of this letter is very important. Please make sure you he receives this and tell him to reply within three days," she informed.

The servant nodded and walked away. Ariel left too. She trekked to where she had hidden her horse, she jumped on it and rode off.

"Your Grace," the servant who Ariel had handed the later to bowed and greeted, as soon as he walked into the presence of the duke.

Lord Edward was seated at the edge of his bed, in his right hand he held a bottle of alcohol and on the other, he held a cup, which he used to drink the alcohol bit by bit.

"What have you come in here for?" He asked interrogatively. He seemed really unhappy that a servant walked in and saw him in this condition of almost wanting to drink to stupor.

"I am sorry your highness but I am here to deliver the letter that your lady friend, miss Ariel asked me to give to you," he explained at once.

The duke of Bedford let out a non chalant sigh. "Take it away, I do not feel like reading any of her love letters."

The servant, Jonathan took only a step back and paused. He remembered the exact words of miss Ariel. "The content of this letter is very important. Please make sure you he receives this and tell him to reply within three days," she said to him.

"But my Lord from her tone and expressions I do not really think that this letter contains ordinary love messages. She seemed quite upset about somethi...

"Jonathan I remember asking you to leave with that letters and not asking you to give some sort of advice. Hope you are aware that this action of yours can attract different punishments. Miss Ariel might be someone I so much cherish but that does not mean that one can disrespect me for her case or have me rethink my decision," he said with a very strong tone, that sweats had to drop from the forehead of poor Jonathan.

"I am truly sorry my lord, I had no intention whatsoever to go against you nor your word. I was just trying to convey the mess...

"Enough of the talks. I hope you understand everything I just said to you?" He asked.

Jonathan nodded with fear. "Of course I do, your majesty."

"Now that we are on the same page, you can take your leave and remember to trash that letter away. I do not want you or anyone to open or read the content of that letter. All you have to do is trash it away. Do not for a moment think that I wouldn't find out if by chance you go against this order, am I clear?"

"I understand clearly," he answered. He bowed and walked out quickly. Deep down he was dying to be out of his presence and finally he was.

Derek returned to his bed side, he picked his alcohol and continues from where he stopped. He had other things to think about. Exchanging love letters with the woman he was soon going to be married to was the last thing he wanted to do.

To him, such behavior was truly childish and condescending.
