Chapter 1 - A decision amongst the Coasts

Waves crashed against the shore as Miguel sat along the hill just a few meters away. The clouds loomed overhead inciting a storm to prance along the land, but he didn't care. He wanted the waves to crash upon his body. Though it wasn't broken his heart was. Terra, his love had left. She had left with their child Cane, the yet born little boy that was supposed to be his first-born son, his firstborn child. He wanted the rain, to simulate the tears he felt in his heart. For the wells that were in his eyes were dry.

He let out a deep sigh. Everything felt so distant, so foreign, surreal was the word to come to mind. 'I want us to be family, but I can't support your desires or what you want.' Those words lingered and rang in his head. Thunder rumbled across the sky, lighting up black clouds in the distance. This would be a heavy storm. The cold and wet spray of the water was beginning to slap Miguel's face, but he welcomed it. He was tired and broken and needed to be cleansed. To wash away all that he had felt, the weight and pressure that was ladened upon his brow and shoulders.

The first drops of rain stung his face, and he closed his eyes to embrace and welcome them. The rhythm that followed the pattern of rain soothed his heart and soul. "I'm sorry Terra, Cane…" he said to himself in a faint voice. He knew not where his life was to go next, nor whether he could mend the bridge that had been torn asunder.

He wondered if he could lap away his pain the way the waves took the coast. He looked at his weapon, the tool that took away his family. A sword of the finest metal and craftsmanship, the only thing he had left besides his skill. His love for the blade had interfered in his love for his family. Could he cast it away; for one who cast him away? "Can I trade one happiness for another?"

He lifted the blade above his head ready to cast it into the seas but stayed his hand. It trembled, as the pseudo tears streaked a crossed his face. His grip didn't loosen and only held tighter. His dreams flashed before his face in violent waves. All the desires, all the promises, all the hard work, time lost in one moment for one decision.

He let out a scream as thunderous as the storm crashing onto the coast and fell to his knees. 'Nothing last forever in this life.' The words of his own father rung through his mind now. His father, who learned from his father before him, and so forth. He looked at his blade. The rain beating against it violently. "Cane…" this time real tears mixed with the pseudo tears that danced a crossed his face. He pulled the blade into his chest and hugged it.

The violence of the storm grew greater, but Miguel moved not from his spot. Not till he heard his voice being yelled in the distance "Miguel!!" The voice was distant but distinct. "Terra" he said as he got up to search for her. Seeing her at the distant he ran to her "What are you doing out here!?" "I don't care what we are going through I still care for you! You need to get out of this storm!"

The storm, he looked back at the spot where he had stay as he saw the waves crash down on it, his blade being dragged away. Pain punctured his heart, but he turned away choosing to lead Terra to safety.

For the blade was still with him and it would be with his son, just as his father had given it to him and his father before him. His time as a warrior had been ended by nature, it was now his time to be a father.
