Chapter 91 – Father Instincts

A few days ago, following the battle between Oshio Uchiha and Urashiki Otsutsuki, the celestial being forced himself in an illusion with the one he just defeated.
"This is a simulation of the Rikudo realm." he said. "I assume Momoshiki-senpai made you familiar with it."
"What do you want from me?" Oshio repeated, confusingly looking around himself.
"No, let's talk about what you want first." he replied. "I've been soliciting the golden eyes a lot lately to keep an eye on you. So I know that the yellow fox and the forbidden Rinnegan user are standing in your way."
"Golden eyes? What is that?" the Uchiha says.
"Doesn't matter. What matters is how we can help each other."
Oshio doesn't reply. He just tries to think of what a celestial being such as him could want that he can give.
"I don't care much about the fox, but the Rinnegan user, Sasuke Uchiha. This one I want him dead just as much as you do." Urashiki tells. "So here is my deal. You will help me acquire his chakra, and therefore steal his divine left eye, and then, I'll get rid of him for you."
"It sounds ridiculous! It is only to your advantage. This isn't a deal. This is blackmailing."
"Well, considering the fact I just took your Rikudo chakra away and left your body to be overtaken by Momoshiki, then yes, it is blackmailing and you're in no position to refuse."
"Momoshiki will overtake me? What does this mean?"
"Oh, you still didn't understand that? Momoshiki-senpai assembled you and your friends as pawns that will become hosts to Earth's power and that he will then consume. Tell me, why would he have given you this left eye and power if he only intended to use you like the others?"
The young Uchiha squinted and felt the chakra flow through him. Could it be that what this man meant is that Momoshiki had prepared Oshio's body to sacrifice it and return to life in the event of a possible early defeat? This then meant that Oshio, now separated from his Rikudo chakra, will have to let Momoshiki's chakra take over in order to keep the same power.
"I'm pretty sure you figured it out now." Urashiki mocked. "If you don't want your human eyes to go blind, you'll need to leave your body to Momoshiki-senpai."
Oshio stood paralyzed for a moment. He is inevitably going to die and let the demon who destroyed his life return to end the world. But he couldn't just let himself be beaten like that. Not by him. He had to find a way around this ultimatum. He needs a power source that will compensate for Momoshiki's chakra.
At the moment, the only thing he could think of is the Biju that he still needs Naruto Uzumaki out of the way to reach. Capturing them would take too long, and the most important is for him to save his sight. There has to be another way for his Sharingan to avoid blindness.
Suddenly, it occurred to him. There is something that can make his eyes eternal. He hates the idea, but it is the only way for him to preserve them. Moreover, he could strike 2 birds in one stone and attempt to take down the Hokage at the same time. But this is surely harder than it sounds. Fortunately, someone seemed to be here to help him.
"I won't let you blackmail me." he confidently told Urashiki. "You're standing in my village right now. Surrounded by my allies. Judging by the state I've put you in already, you won't get out easily if Kawaki, Meinu and I come on you together. Plus, I'm the one who cast this illusion, meaning you're in my Genjutsu."
"Mh? Don't go thinking that a human's illusion can do me any harm." the celestial answered. "It is by choice that I am here with you. However, you're right. I'm in a pretty bad position for you to refuse."
"You coming all the way to me means that I'm really your best choice of ally in this, am I not?" Oshio guessed. "I won't help you without you returning the favor. If you want my assistance to kill my father, I'll require your's to eliminate Naruto Uzumaki."
"… Clever move… But I can't risk getting involved physically with this one." Urashiki replied. "You see… The fox is highly considered by the Ryu Shinsen himself. Let me think for a moment… Maybe I can figure out an approach for you at least…"
Oshio stood silent, intrigued by this suggestion. Ryu Shinsen? Did he mean Dragon Sage? He remembered Momoshiki mentioning it a few times, but how could this person have any connection to the Hokage? His stream of thought was cut short by Urashiki who may have found a plan.
"Let's see… Centuries ago, a man from my clan came to this exact land and accidentally engendered an offspring. If his descendants still exist, it should be a clan of light blond haired people who can possess the will of others."
"Onikuma? There is no way their jutsu works on the Hokage!"
"Now that you say it, this jutsu in human hands would certainly have more limits… But it doesn't necessarily have to be used on him. my problem. I'll explain, but first, let's talk about the Rinnegan user. All I need you to do is lure him to some place where we can get him. I don't need to defeat him. I just need to steal his chakra. You'll find your presence will make it oddly easier!"
The two of them stood in the illusion for a while, just long enough to discuss their plans to take down the heroes of this world, by making use of Minako Onikuma's powers and Oshio's blood bond to Sasuke.

Now, the Otsutsuki and the ruler of Hikari are standing side by side against the Uchiha wanderer as they planned. Unsettled by a celestial's presence, the wanderer turns his anger to him.
"What the hell did you do to my son?" he questions, certain that such an alliance found its roots in deceitful manipulation.
"The kid and I just made a deal." Urashiki answers.
Oshio is the first to engage in combat. Not letting his fear and doubts get in the way, he pulls out the Futsu no Mitama, the black sword that contains the power of his Rinnegan, and leaps toward his father to attack him.
Sasuke simply blocks the blade with his own, and quickly makes eye contact with his son. Disappointed, but in action, he pushes Oshio out of range for a colossal turtle statue that comes falling over them. Sasuke, recognizing that this thing is simply a Doton jutsu from the Otsutsuki, gets rid of it in the simplest way.
Gakido
He uses his Rinnegan to completely absorb the statue and leaves Urashiki, who was standing on it, to fall down on him. The Otsutsuki is a bit surprised that his opponent could absorb such an amount of natural energy without consequences, but stays ready for action. Using his rod as a staff, he engages in a physical exchange with Sasuke who blocks and counterattacks with his sword.
Very quickly, the Uchiha takes the upper hand and lets his anger out on the opponent who reminds him of his deep hatred for Momoshiki and his kind.
"A deal, you say?" Sasuke yells while overwhelming him. "Never heard anything so stupid and careless! I killed Momoshiki! Kinshiki was no match for me! And I've gotten stronger since then! You were already the weakest back then. You stand no chance against me!"
"Huhu! Think what you want." Urashiki replies, now trying to step away rather than fighting back. "But I'm still at an advantage. I have an ally. An ally that you seemingly won't dare hurt."
He jumps away, carelessly letting Sasuke's sword barely reach his belly to no harm. Just as he lands, he provokes an earthquake that his opponent evades by leaping off and high. From up here, Sasuke notices a black celestial object floating above him.
Chibaku Tensei
Oshio uses this jutsu and causes Sasuke to be pulled toward the gravity orb with all the pieces of ground lifted by Urashiki's earthquake. After making sure to cancel the jutsu's effect on him with his left eye, Sasuke carefully dodges every pulled object that could collide with him. While he's at it, he sees the giant black ethereal sword of his son's Susanoo come toward him.
To counter, he pulls out his own armor's arm and blade, and counters the original Futsu no Mitama with it. He soon notices that his Susanoo is being absorbed in his Oshio's weapon. Left with no cover, he confronts his Kusanagi with the giant sword and is pushed upward, toward the active Chibaku Tensei. Urashiki chooses the right time to make use of one of his skills.
Minogame
Sasuke is suddenly close to being buried in the meteor. This, he just recognized. Like when Tsubai and Kobo were fighting this guy, or when Naruto attacked Kaguya following Obito's death, time just skipped forward to bring him to a more complicated moment.
Raikiri Nagashi
To get out of this, he spreads lightning as a wide thunder field through the air. It completely shatters the floating ground pieces and turns them all to dust. With the electricity blade in his hand, he pierces and destroys the center of the meteor, canceling the jutsu.
Once done, he lands on the broken soil and stands up in front of Oshio and Urashiki, who are side by side, ready to get back in action. Sasuke prepares to receive another offensive, but is surprised by something that none of that could expect.
Yomotsu Hirasaka
Behind Oshio, and before anyone can make a move, a black space rift appears, but it isn't a Chimatakami portal. Instead, it is the same kind of gate that Kaguya could create. Out of it, Sasuke sees a dark scythe emerge, made out of the same material as Urashiki's rod. This deadly blade rips through the air and silently aims for his son's neck.
Ameno Tejikara
Instinctively, Sasuke hurries to switch with his son and takes the scythe's blade through his shoulder and upper arm instead. Oshio looks in front of him, to where he was standing an instant ago, and makes a shocked face. Next to Sasuke, Urashiki who had already noticed the portal thanks to his Byakugan looks more afraid and annoyed than anything else.
Sasuke falls down and gets nailed to the ground by the blade. Out from the portal now emerges a man. He wears a white hooded mantle with magatama symbols arranged around the collar. On his face, a black mask with a gray tomoe symbol and a hole for the right eye, and nothing more. Not even another hole for the left eye. On his hands, feet and neck, a black outfit hides every millimeter of his body.
The only part of him left to be seen is his right eye: a red Rinnegan staring at Sasuke. Urashiki, seeing this man's complete shape, recognizes Tokubei Otsutsuki, a noble member of the ruling council of Shinden. He gasps and tries to contain his panic.
"Tokubei-sama!" the Otsutsuki exclaims. "What are you doing here?"
The man looks at who he just nailed down to the ground with his two-sided scythe. He gazes at Sasuke's headband that was strapped around his arm, now lying on the ground, cut off by his scythe. He then looks up to Oshio who was saved from his blade. Finally, he stares at the other celestial next to him.
"Urashiki, you know very well that this man is mine to kill." he says about Sasuke. "And Yamitsuki-sama told us not to step in the matters of this world for now."
"But why are you here, then?" Urashiki asks again.
"Why are YOU here?" Tokubei yells back. "This Uchiha is mine to kill! Not yours! Not anybody else's."
He looks at Oshio again, menacingly. The young Uchiha doesn't move, he just stares agape in shock, not having planned such a turn of events. He looks down to see his father staring back to see if he's well. Sasuke still has the scythe through his shoulder.
"Let's take this somewhere else." Tokubei says calmly.
He opens another space time gate, but using Chimatakami this time. The rift opens and grows to swallow him and Sasuke.
"No! This was my business!" Urashiki exclaims as he leaps forward to get in the portal as well.
Oshio, simply in a rush, and worried about this newcomer's intentions, jumps to get in the portal as well, but is stopped by Sasuke, who keeps him away from danger.
Shinra Tensei
With his hand raised, he pushes his son away and prevents him from following everyone else. The portal closes and transports everyone but Oshio to another dimension. The ruler of Shin no Kuni falls, sits down and stares in horror at where his father was lying a second ago. He picks up the headband that was left there, and firmly holds it.
He unleashed this on him. He lured him here to be a prey to these gods. Why did Sasuke, still even as he was trying to attack him, save his life. Why are his father's instincts so strong toward him? In pain, Oshio clenches his teeth and fist to shut all these questions up. He slowly comes to realize that, as he wanted, he brought his own father to his death.

In another dimension, on a desert blue ice mountain, the output portal of Tokubei opens and releases the fighters to fall down on a frozen lake. Before they land, Tokubei swings his scythe and throws Sasuke to the surface. Trying to ignore the pain of this massive wound, the Uchiha rolls and hurries to stand up.
As soon as on his feet, he has to leap away to dodge Urashiki who tries to smash him down with his knee. The Otsutsuki instead strikes the ground and causes the frozen lake to break entirely. He then leaps forward to attempt another strike at the Uchiha but is stopped straight in the air.
Tendo
Using the gravitational powers of his right eye, Tokubei pulls Urashiki away from Sasuke and sends him to crash down the mountain. Sasuke, sitting next to the shattered lake, looks up to see the other Otsutsuki standing above, and immediately tries to take him down.
Amaterasu
By combining his Rinnegan and Mangekyo Sharingan abilities, he creates black flames that instantly appear directly on the target and start melting it down.
Gakido
Using the right eye that Sasuke only now notices, Tokubei swallows the black flames and prevents any damage. He looks down to see the Uchiha and gazes at his divine left eye.
"Now that you're here, I might as well get done with you unworthy Uchiha for good." he says. "I'll take that left eye and make it mine. This gift wasn't even meant for you in the first place."
He rapidly flies toward his opponent and uses his scythe to force him into a blade fight. Sasuke, even though heavily bothered by the wound left by this same weapon, manages to block the two sides of the scythe with his sword.
While they're opposing their weapons, Sasuke reminds himself of the reasons why he hated the Otsutsuki. To see them return and attempt to take his son away once again puts him in a rage he hasn't felt in a long time. Being alone with two of them, the only thing he is putting all his efforts into now is making sure that they'll both be dead by the end of this fight.
Not as worried or hurt as his opponent, Tokubei finds the right moment to push Sasuke's arm up and grab his wrist. Sasuke now has his only hand blocked by the much stronger opponent who still has a second arm free holding his scythe. Tokubei swings the scythe and attempts to slice his enemy in half with it, but is blocked by what seems to be an unexpected third arm.
Susanoo
Sasuke briefly creates a replacement for his lost limb with Susanoo and grabs the scythe by its handle. They now both have two hands held down, but not for long. Tokubei decides that, if his opponent can make a second arm to reach his count, he can outperform him the same way.
Shurado
From his shoulder, a third arm emerges and in its palm, an intense chakra mass is gathered. Before Sasuke can find a way to free himself from this hold, he is struck by a chakra beam shot from his third hand. He's sent fluttering down the mountain like Urashiki earlier, and gets on his knees again.
Gakido
Now, even from such a distance, he feels his chakra being sucked out by his opponent. Also being a Rinnegan user, he easily interrupts this suction, but is still flabbergasted by this man's skills. Even though their eyes have the same powers, he is way better at using it. Absorbing chakra from a distance, and simulating telekinesis with Tendo are uses that he never thought of and wouldn't even be able to perform.
Now in a distance, Sasuke looks up the mountain and focuses to locate Tokubei again, but is surprised by Urashiki instead. The Otsutsuki comes in his back and tries to kick him in the neck. Seeing him coming thanks to his reflection in the ice, Sasuke learns aside and lets Urashiki crash in the soil before him.
The Otsutsuki turns around, close and face to face with Sasuke who looks at his rod that he knows is his most dangerous tool. He sees the black rod and the red chakra string attached to it, but can't see its end and the hook.
Minogame
Before Sasuke can understand his plan, Urashiki leaps through time again, and the red string is suddenly piercing through Sasuke's chest. The Uchiha looks down and sees the hook ready to extract his chakra. He looks up to see Urashiki staring him right in the eyes.
"And now, these eyes are mine!" he exclaims before pulling the rod of Ameno Subaruboshi back to him.
He extracts the chakra of his enemy and brings it to his own self. He pushes an emptied Sasuke with his foot and then absorbs the chakra mass that gives him the visual prowess of the wandering ninja. As he feels the Rinnegan, the eye he's coveted for years, finally on his face, he maniacally bursts out laughing.
"What did you do?" he hears Tokubei yell as he arrives there.
"Hahaha! Now even you Shinden won't get in my way!" Urashiki exclaims. "I don't have to be afraid of the Ryu Shinsen anymore! I just have to wait for Momoshiki's revival in that kid's body and even the Tenshin won't be able to stop us!"
Shinra Tensei
He spreads his arms apart and leaves out a great push force in all directions that completely destroys the mountain and repulses his enemies as well. As he leaves his new power out for the first time, he promptly stops when he feels all his chakra being pulled out from his body.
All he's been seeing since the moment he made eye contact with Sasuke was only the effect of the Tsukuyomi in Sasuke's left eye. In reality, Sasuke used Ameno Tejikara to switch their places and be the one holding the rod that went through Urashiki. Just now he violently pulled out the hook and extracted all of Urashiki's chakra.
With this chakra in his hand, Sasuke does not even absorb it and just throws it away with the rod, leaving it to vanish in the air of this dimension. Urashiki stares astonished at what he witnesses. Nearly empty of chakra, he realizes that he's fallen victim to the illusion of a human being.
"Impossible!" he screams in pain. "An inferior life form such as you can't have trapped a superior mind…"
Sasuke doesn't let him finish his sentence. He just heard him in the illusion suggesting that Momoshiki would be revived with his son's body. To learn this doesn't intrigue but frustrates him.
Raikiri Katana
He rapidly and fiercely rips the Otsutsuki's chest open with his lightning-covered Kusanagi, destroying both the celestial's heart in a movement. With his hand on the sword's handle he then performs the tiger hand seal at the same moment where a drop of blood pours down from his left eye.
Enton – Goenka Mekkyaku
Sasuke expels a raging wave of Amaterasu's black flames. Powered by his anger, the heat of these flames increases to surpass that of the sun's surface. The wave swallows Urashiki's heartless body and completely incinerates him, turning him into ashes in just a few seconds. The intense flames also cause the whole mountain to melt and evaporate, leaving Sasuke to fall to the flat and solid ground, several hundreds of meters down.
Down there, Tokubei finally reaches him and makes an impressed yet pissed off face.
"Raw energy powered by your raging heart!" he exclaims. "This is worthy of Indra!"
"Indra?" Sasuke asks, confused that a being from outer space shows any respect for the founder of his clan.
"Well, now that you got us rid of that other rat, I can finally be my true self." Tokubei confidently answers, as he unleashes his blood red chakra.
Susanoo
This mass of red energy shapes into an extremely dense hooded and 4-armed avatar that surprises Sasuke. Judging from its look, it is not a perfect Susanoo. Not willing to question his enemy's skill too much, Sasuke hurries to pull out his much bigger and powerful version of the same jutsu.
"This shape, this color, this chakra." Tokubei comments. "Stop pretending to be Indra."
"Screw him!" Sasuke exclaims as he throws the two massive blades of his Susanoo, coated in black flames and thunder, down on the blood red samurai that, despite not being the final version of the jutsu, is almost as tall as his.
Yata no Kagami
When his blades hit Tokubei's jutsu, Sasuke unexpectedly sees the excessive power of his slice be deflected, and sent back to him. This hit strikes his own Susanoo and immediately slices it in pieces, making it explode violently and send Sasuke crashing down in the soil, almost beaten in one hit, being his own.
Lied down in the ground, Sasuke comes back to his senses and sees through the mist the red Susanoo approaching with a glowing shield. This feeling he got when he touched it. He recognized it. It is the Yata Mirror of his brother, Itachi Uchiha.
"That weapon… It's impossible…" he says, out of breath, even more in shock when he sees his opponent also pull out the Totsuka blade.
"You probably recognize the weapons of the brother you murdered." Tokubei explains. "What you just felt is the true power of Yata no Kagami. Not only to contain but mirror any offensive. Know that you're mistaken about how you see these tools. The only reason your brother had them is because I gave them to him."
Sasuke makes a confused face, learning that the Otsutsuki had a hand on his life and family long before Momoshiki stepped in. Tokubei gives more details.
"Itachi Uchiha's fate was to die from your hand. So giving these weapons to him was a way to pass them down to you, Indra Otsutsuki's reincarnation. However, after seeing the path of defeat you chose after your confrontation with Asura, I decided to take them back before you discovered them."
Sasuke doesn't say anything and tries to understand what this means. Did Tokubei, who shows an unusual respect for Indra, expect Sasuke to go down the same path as Madara and the others before him? Why is a member of Momoshiki's clan interested in what becomes of the Uchiha?
"Before I found them, these weapons belonged to Indra." Tokubei gives one more detail before raising the sealing blade. "Now, by sealing you forever with Totsuka, I'll end your life and acquire your Kekkei Genkai abilities."
Just before he can let the sword fall down to end Sasuke's life, He looks to the side and senses a chakra gathering. Sasuke sees his opponent suddenly dismiss his Susanoo and surprisingly reabsorb all the chakra he used to shape it. This way, he can actually use Susanoo without having wasted any chakra. Sasuke makes sure to remember this, even though he doubts he'll ever get an occasion to copy it.
Chimatakami
In the sky, after Tokubei is done hiding his Susanoo, a blue space rift opens and out from it emerges a short floating woman with a long white mantle and very long light pink hair reaching her feet. She has two little owl horns above her ears, a range of magatama on her collar, red and black bands on her sleeves, and most notably, a pair of Byakugan that also have the tomoe of the Sharingan. This woman is Naobi Otsutsuki, another member of the Shinden council.
"What is it, Naobi-sama?" Tokubei asks this mystical woman.
"Do not dare asking, Tokubei." she replies, with a soft and wise voice. "You are shamefully taking advantage of Yamitsuki's momentary absence, and neglecting the consequences it will have."
"It is not my mistake. You see, Urashiki has come to interfere and I am only here to right his wrongs."
"I am not that ignorant, Tokubei. May I remind you that Sakitsuki is under my tutorship and I am therefore the one to profit most from her golden sight?"
"Of course, let me be honest then." Tokubei apologizes. "Urashiki attempted to step in Momoshiki's revival attempt. He went to see the kid whom Momoshiki had stolen using your power and plotted to kill this man." he says pointing at Sasuke. "But his life has been promised to me by Yamitsuki. It is mine to take. I had to reclaim my due."
Sasuke gulps down, astonished by this discussion. What Tokubei just called Oshio… the kid whom Momoshiki had stolen using her power. What does it mean? They know about Oshio's true origins and just casually spoke them out in front of him? He can however not fully understand them.
And apart from these words, about the wise woman who looks so young despite her obvious centuries long life experience, Sasuke doesn't even dare to look up to see her, intimidated like he never was before. This amount of colorful chakra, this raw power, he's never seen this anywhere before. It greatly surpasses anyone he's ever met before. Compared to this, even Kaguya feels like a child. And judging by the respect Tokubei addresses her with, he can guess that it isn't just a sensation.
"Yamitsuki speaks carelessly. You know that." Naobi tells Tokubei. "This man's life isn't yours to take. The Tenshin need to punish him and resurrect my nephew."
"What is she talking about?" Sasuke thinks. This ignorance he feels, it angers him. Sick of lying there, he does his best to get at least on his knees and looks up to the woman, whom he can't see. When he looks down again, he suddenly sees her next to him, holding his hand to reveal a little dot mark in his palm.
"His stigmata has… not one but two souls?" she angrily exclaims, looking at Tokubei. "You let him kill Urashiki?"
"I simply didn't interfere." Tokubei mockingly answers. "That fool just got what he deserved."
"No one interferes anymore now!" she raises her tone to make herself clear.
"But it is too late." Tokubai replies. "This man right here is seeing and hearing us."
Naobi looks up to Sasuke's face, who stares back. He is just confused and dares not to speak, while she's more thoughtful.
"We will leave him here for now, until he is found by the Tenshin." she says. "Then, we will get Aritsuki to wash off the memories of his world again. But first we will wait for Yamitsuki's return from the Ryugujo, so you will respond to your actions."
Sasuke, annoyed by their behavior, speaking as if he wasn't standing right there, frowns and breathes in, ready to get in the discussion. He can not even expel a single sound before he's suddenly shut down by Naobi.
Kami Musubi
He is suddenly forced to the ground by a crushing mass. Unable to stand up, he struggles to look up and sees a frozen night sky with a shining white moon staring at him. Stuck here, he doesn't find the strength to break this obvious illusion.
He can't sense any chakra anymore. For the first time since his first fight with Itachi, he can't tell the difference between Genjutsu and reality. All his senses are completely tricked and he can't escape. In this ultimate timeless torture, the nature of this almighty illusion occurs to him and, suddenly, he comes to realize the truth about Oshio.
Sadly, he doubts he'll ever bring this information to anyone. He thinks of Sakura, Izuna, Sarada whom he all disappointed one last time before disappearing. He thinks of Oshio, and doesn't blame him for this. He is just glad that he could keep him away from this place that will seemingly become his grave.

The next morning, in Hikarigakure, Oshio Uchiha stands still before the door to the throne room where all the members of Kakumei are gathered. Still shaken by the terrible things he's witnessed, he tries to calm down to appear as serene as possible to his friends.
Looking at the headband that he kept in remembrance of his father, he clears his mind. After a minute, he opens the door and gets everyone's attention.
Fuyuko, Akiko, Meinu, Mikitaka, Minoka, Minako Onikuma and Kawaki stop what they're doing and stare at him, waiting to hear what he has to say, all aware of what he had to do.
"How did it go?" Fuyuko dares to ask.
"… Sasuke Uchiha is dead, as planned." Oshio blankly replies, showing the forehead protector. "Now, things are in motion that we can't undo."
Fuyuko and Akiko look at each other in shock, unable to believe what they just heard. Minoka and Minako both worriedly gaze at Kawaki, towards whom Oshio is now going.
"Next is your move, Kawaki." he says.
Futsu no Mitama
He reveals his black absorbing blade in its physical rod form and hands it over to his friend. The general, too troubled by the news, just lets the sovereign lay the blade against his chest.
