Ch - 19 Alien Gem
If there is a supreme being that created everything exists, that being created humans with many flaws compared to other species. Even inside their planet, they are neither the fastest species nor the strongest and biggest. They don't have wings to fly or lungs that can breathe in water or space. Their vision is nearly blind in the dark. Their skin is not strong and firm like others. They can't regenerate their broken or cut-off limbs. They can't hibernate.
They can perish easily under different hazards. Such as starvation, thirst, suffocation, temperature differences, illness, organ failure, blood loss, old age, out of their inventions, by the hands of their kind, etc.
From the moment of their birth, they only have a short life span and are deemed to perish. They certainly aren't the best creatures that the neverending universe can offer.
Even with those weaknesses, there are many factors and discoveries of humanity that give advantages and propel them forward over other species. From a race with many flaws, the road they had taken to reach galactic civilization wasn't a smooth or short one.
At the start of the stone age, many large predators were extinct and the areas for survival became smaller than ever. In order to survive, a bunch of hunters and scavengers group up together and become tribes. With an advantage in their number, they put up a fight against species that are stronger than them.
However, they can't overcome the natural threat of fearsome predators. To cover their disadvantage, they develop unique abilities. Their brains are able to think of a way to utilize things around them for their benefit.
For their lack of power and speed, they compensate their weaknesses by wielding weapons in their hands. They wore the firm skins and bones of their prey to defend their weak bodies. Smearing inside the cave walls they dwelled, they created languages and pedagogy for their offspring.
Even then, they can't confront cruel weather and some natural predators. They traveled from one place to another. Along the way, they also found many new things. With the discovery and use of fire, agriculture, new cold weapons, and taming animals they evolved from wanderers to settlers. They become enlightened and smarter.
As they become smarter than other species they found a much bigger problem. It was another evolved creature who looked like themselves. They couldn't accept them as one of their kind.
Since those creatures have similar characteristics like them, they differentiate each other with their locality, color, languages, and level of culture.
Some formed amicable terms with each other becoming trade partners and alliances. Most of the time, they fight each other for the land and riches the other party possesses.
Throughout the eras, the human species have a tendency to divide themselves for multiple reasons. They compete and conflict with each other. The consequence of being a loser is huge. The cruelty and destruction that humans can inflict on each other are truly fascinating.
To become a winner you need to outshine your species which is as smart as you. Many discoveries, innovations, and technology, that include both beneficial and destructive were developed just not to be losers in the competition.
The steam engine, fuel combustion, firearms, electric appliances, nuclear power, computer science, quantum mechanics, and many others are the hard-earned fruit of humanity's science and research. Each and every one of these contributed steady steps for humanity to reach a level of galactic civilization. Minimizing most of their natural disadvantages over other civilizations inside the universe. Although they don't achieve immortality, their technology bridge the gap.
However, they took their first true step toward galactic civilization when they discovered a miracle crystal on an unknown planet. They called it 'alien Gem'.
When a small percentage of humanity escaped to space due to a certain crisis, they didn't have a high chance of survival. Finding a new home after getting out of the solar system has only a small chance of success in their calculation and theory. However, when they venture into space, they find out it wasn't a possible feat with their current technology.
Their resources, population, and hope are dwindling over time. At that moment, their satellite camera captured a remnant of civilization on a planet. Their exploration units landed on the planet, bracing against the hazard. They collected many samples and unique materials from the planet.
Alien Gem is one of them. It was a completely new type of matter so they called it 'Matter X'. The first use of alien gems is very primitive. They cut and wore it like an accessory. Later, they found out it can be used for communication with other civilizations. Thus why they renamed the gem as 'Alien gem'.
The later generation of Alien gem uses become more sophisticated. Powerful signal communication, the control program for homunculi, mecha and spaceship system, aether energy storage, programming DNA like gem implantation for ultra healthcare, memory & analysis aid, and many others.
There is a reason why alien gems have such a versatile usage. Through unique quantum waves, they can change their dimensional existence. In layman's terms, they can be used like a storage ring that appears in fantasy novels. Except you can only put aether energy and data inside the gem.
There is no way that galactic humans left unguarded their core technology. However, the scenario of homunculus attacking the program had never occurred.
In theory, homunculi are carbon copies of humans that can be natured into excellent soldiers. But in reality, their development and self-consciousness are very minimal, they are just living corpses. They can only receive orders and move according to the program's instructions through the gem, not the other way around.
Currently, Jinn's consciousness was inside the Gem embedded in his body. As Jinn attacks the program, the self-destruction program is abruptly halted. As the attack is coming from the inside, the security system is slow to react to the attack. Using this chance Jinn has successfully taken control of the administrative authority.
Unfortunately, it is a dummy target left by the shrewd creator. Who in their right mind will leave their core with one security?
While Jinn was busy battling with the security system, Beta was watching Jinn's unmoving body. She was the one who received the massive signal closest to the culprit so she knew something wrong with the human child. Although she wanted to help him out, she didn't know what she should do.
In her eyes, the child's life sign was becoming more radical. His current symptoms have similarities to evolving as she saw inside the colony. She doesn't know whether he will succeed or not.
