Chapter 27 - Comfort

C.J. Modal Studio

It took four and a half hours for my hairdresser and my make-up artist to make me look like what I was at the moment. I stared at myself in the mirror and smiled. I still looked like myself but different. I had full-face makeup. The makeup artist made my eyes dramatic by using the shades of beige, brown and gold as my eyeshadow. Then she finished my make-up with red lipstick.

The hairdresser fixed some of my hair in a tight bun and used the rest to make small circles as design. Then she added the ruby head piece that was provided to me by Mama Credence. Five people assisted me so I could wear my black trumpet gown without ruining my hair. Then they assisted me with the jewelry. I was shocked because this was not the same set that we looked at when we went to the store.

"Careful," Roberto said to my hairstylist.

My hairstylist was the one who was locking my intricate ruby studded platinum necklace. Then Roberto put my earrings to my ears. He was assisted by my makeup artist. The last piece was the bracelet. Roberto placed it on my left hand. Then his assistant locked my shoes in place and they all trailed behind me as I walked out of the makeup area towards the showroom.

They were all smiling as they inspected me from head to toe. My makeup artist gave me the red lipstick that she used on me. She said for me to use it to retouch my lipstick.

"How can I return it to you?" I asked her.

"It's yours. It's paid and it's brand new," she explained to me with a wide smile. I just answered her with a nervous smile.

I was so glad that I ate my lunch before I left the house or else I would probably end up hungry at this time. Roberto handed me a black cylindrical clutch bag that matches my gown.

"Please check the contents of your bag, Madam," Roberto instructed me.

I opened the clutch bag and my phone and wallet were there. And my tiny pack of wet wipes. I put on the red lipstick and locked my bag, "Everything is here, thank you."

"We placed your clothes and sandals inside a white paper bag and handed it to Chantal, Madam," Roberto added.

"Thank you," I told him with a smile.

"Enjoy your night, Madam," Roberto told me as he guided me towards the main entrance.

Chantal was there already carrying the white paper bag. I went inside the LS500 quietly. I put on my seatbelt as we sped away. I opened my clutch and took my phone out to check the time. It was already thirty minutes past five. I hope we could make it at seven as Bram requested. The induction would be held at the RGC building's function hall.

Archie was already waiting for us at the basement parking of the building when we arrived. Chantal went out from the front passenger seat and opened my door. I put my knees together and turned it to my right side and gracefully slid out of the sedan.

"Good evening, Madam," Archie greeted me with a slight bow. I steadied myself and smiled at him, "This way please." He added and he walked ahead of me. Chantal and I followed him towards the elevator. He entered first then I followed him and Chantal was last.

"Sir Bram is at his office just preparing for his speech," Archie told me.

"Thank you, Archie," I said to him with a nod.

We waited for the elevator door to close, then we were silent during the ride. I was looking at the floor indicator when the door opened on the 15th floor. Bram's eyes met mine. Then he ruined the moment by smirking at me. I scowled at him.

"After you, Madam," I heard Archie say.

I turned to him with a smile and walked out the elevator. I wanted to ignore Bram but he took my left hand and he kissed it. He looked so handsome with his black tuxedo.

"You looked incredible," he said to me with a low voice as we started to walk.

I rolled my eyes at him, "Why do you always ruin the moment?"

"What did I do?" Bram asked me. He held my hand while we walked towards his office.

I sighed and was about to say something when Archie spoke ahead of me, "Sir, shall we go down now to the function hall? It's 7:15."

"I need fifteen minutes with my wife, Archie," Bram told Archie then he pushed the glass door of his office.

"Certainly, Sir," Archie responded with a slight bow and then he closed the door after I entered the room.

Bram pulled me towards his floor to ceiling window. I pulled his hand back so he would slow down, "Bram, we need to be careful we might ruin my gown."

He slowed down but did not turn his back to me. When we reached his table he let my left hand go and cupped my face. I stepped back and my butt hit the edge of the table. Then he kissed me full in the mouth. My eyes widened in surprise. I relaxed a little and responded to his kiss.

Then he grabbed my waist and deepened the kiss. I moved my face away, "Bram? People are waiting?" I reminded him.

He wrapped his arms on my waist and rested his head on my left shoulder. I was tickled by his breath so I moved my shoulder a little. He inhaled the side of my neck and released a long breath.

"I'm scared, Emma," Bram said. I could feel his warm breath on my neck, "What if I'm not good enough?"

I wrapped my arms around his waist and said, "How did you know that you are not good enough?"

Bram lifted his head and rested his forehead on mine, "I'm a racecar driver not an office worker. What if I make mistakes?"

"Well, then just don't repeat the same mistake then?" I told him with a smile. Then he gave a heavy sigh.

"I don't exactly know what I'm doing," Bram said again, this time he rested his head on my right shoulder and he rocked us side to side.

"If you need to go back to school to equip yourself for the position, then go back to school," I told him as I stared outside. The city skyline looked so peaceful from our spot.

Bram released me from his embrace and stood up properly. He placed his hands on his pocket and looked outside too, "Do you think I could do it?"

I turned to him and said, "You can do anything."
