Willing the newly gained Essence points into the Essence core a cold sensation bombarded my torso for a moment.

According to Ember's calculations, I should be able to maintain the flow of Essence within my body for at most 4 seconds. The pain was quite intense from circulating it for 2 seconds so I can only imagine how disastrous this could go if I'm not careful. It would be foolish, however, to not gain experience in using what could potentially be one of my most powerful assets. Closing my eyes I tried to mentally prepare myself for what needed to be done.

After taking several deep breaths I focused my attention on what remained of the dignified armor that stood superlatively against the ornate castle hallway, I noticed the next 2 Limestone Armor close to me looked almost identical in design with weapons alike. The one on the left held a crystallized spear in the left gauntlet that was engraved with twisted carvings and stood taller than the armor itself. To the right stood a replica of the armor on the left with a slight variation of the previous spear. At the end of the spear, an elongated curved blade was attached, adorned with minute specs that seemed to dimly illuminate the surrounding area.

I began to feel the icy serenity ripple through me as the Essence trickled out and permeated every fiber of being. My gaze drifted to the right as I focused my attention on the armor-wielding bladed spear. For some reason, it looked far more menacing than the other spear-wielding Limestone Armor. Once the silhouette of the dancing flames became slow and lethargic, I sprinted toward the armor. Everything was going as planned but I could not control my speed as I crashed directly into the Limestone Armor ramming it into the draped wall. That was unexpected and flustered me, but with only about 3 seconds remaining before the backlash of using Essence kicked in I had to move quickly. The chest of the Limestone Armor was coincidentally dented from when I crashed into it on accident. Noticing that, I grabbed both of its pauldrons for support, delivering a forward knee to the indented chest, and jumped towards the armor on the left.

Ember's voice rang out systematically in my head but fell upon def ears as I was intently focused on using less speed than in the previous assault. Unfortunately, time was running out and I did not want to imagine what would happen if the backlash came into effect while I was still in striking distance. I appeared in the air at the Limestone Armor and drove my right heel down onto its helmet. The helmet caved deeply into the torso of the armor and debris scattered around us as the ground beneath started to crack from the force of the strike.

I tried to land on my feet but before I could hit the ground I felt my body go limp and color seemed to slowly fade from the surrounding area. The cool and serene feeling from before was now replaced with a sharp and repulsive pain as I felt blood drop from my chin. The blood trickled from my eyes, nose, and ears as I gripped my chest tightly while crouched over on my knees. The blood continued to flow, painting the once-gray world around me crimson red as I dropped to my back. It felt like my entire body was being ripped to shreds as I shook violently on the ground splattering drops of blood onto the carpet. Soon it became hard to breathe as every gasp of air felt like searing flames being blasted into my lungs. The pain went on for what felt like an eternity until the now crimson scene before I turned into an endless black landscape.

After some time I slowly began to regain consciousness and my eyes begrudgingly opened. I leaned forward slightly off the ground gripping my torso and trying to recall the events that just unfolded. My entire body was ragged and sore but that was nothing compared to the amount of pain I just endured. I tried to get back on my feet but fell back on the ground landing flat on my face. Ember's voice screamed in my eardrums almost as loud as when I first accepted her master's inheritance.

"DO NOT MOVE!"

"... Why are you screaming ?!" I could only grimace as it hurt to speak but Ember's outburst caught me off guard.

"Your body is still recovering after experiencing the backlash and will need ample time to sufficiently recover before you attempt to make any brash movements. As my master's disciple, I do wish to see you grow strong enough to be fitting of the inheritance but I did not think you would be crazy enough to push your body to such limits in a desire to test how powerful the effects of Essence would be. There would be no point in you having acquired it if you're planning on dying before you can even make proper use of it."

Ember expelled a long sigh before continuing in a quiet voice, "You may be more like my master than I initially had expected. Taking unnecessary risks to test the limits of power or to gain tiny bits of insight." I couldn't help but reveal a tiny smile when listening to what Ember said, especially the part about being similar to her master.
