Chapter 9 - Chapter 10 - Return of the Hero

So I go to the bricklayers' shop to hire a craftsman to build my plans. I had decided to invest in a new small establishment to assemble potions and forge weapons.

Thus, the plans I had put together represented a workshop of 30 square meters with two floors. The lower floor contained all the utensils necessary for the creation of potion as for the upper, there was a small forge fire, molds and forging materials. I was satisfied with the work and paid the sum of 4600 gold coins to the mason. I had to auction off the evolutionary stone in order to pay the costs. I made 14,000 gold coins. I proceeded to settle down at my alchemy workbench and out of my expandable pouch all the ingredients I had collected so far. 20 wolf teeth, 50 wolf eye, 10 wolf skin, a chimera tail, chimera claws, small and medium mana stones, wolf meat and finally the strange scarlet stone.

It is possible to create magic scrolls containing spells, I read a book about writings infused with mana while my workshop was being built. These scrolls, once opened, executed the incantations without fail and could contain complicated spells to execute. The best quality scrolls were 100,000 pieces of gold and could perform the spelling repeatedly. To create, on the other hand, it was necessary to apply to a complex and meticulous work. The first step was to tan a beast's skin, it was used as a support for writing the incantation. Once tanned, apply a mana stone to the parchment by storing it in the lines of the incantation. And finally, the spell must be written in the universal magic language (discovered 1400 years ago by the Sage 'Dovanome').

Once the operation is complete, seal the parchment with a dedicated spell. In this way, the parchment can also be bewitched to activate under certain conditions, such as 'number of enemies greater than 4 = opening of the parchment' or 'Partial invisibility of the parchment in the eyes of the enemy', etc...

Determined to incanter the wolf skins in manuscript with my magic of fire, I threw myself blindly in the preparation. All I had to do was write the lines, I used mana ink and deciphered the secrets of my fire magic to affix it with words. Six hours passed and I used nearly seven wolf skins. Then, after perfecting my infused incantation, I managed to arrange the words correctly. And the parchment took on a reddish hue and the incantations glittered a light blue on the manuscript.

Later, I managed to make a second one by reproducing the same method. Armed with 2 fire scrolls, I meditated on their possible use. I could activate it to launch an instant fireball, there was also a technique that allowed to absorb the power of a parchment to multiply the capacity of a spell. I did not know this technique and I would not know if I would find it at the spell shop. A second idea came to me, more enlightened, it consisted basically in creating a fire strengthening potion. In this way, the mana gathers to promote the use of fire magic, and for that, I will need salamander scales. It is a creature in the image of a large lizard that possessed the ability to spew fire in large quantities. Its magical configuration was oriented towards fire and made its ingredients effective.

On the other hand, my competence level 2 alchemy would probably not be enough to assemble this potion, I would have to strengthen my competence.

I could create potions and depending on the quality of the rendering, I will have more or less experience. I could also harvest ingredients from the surrounding wildlife and depending on how hard it is to get it I will have experience. So I reflect for 30 minutes on my possible options.

While I was sitting at the workbench, a merchant caravan passed through my street. I went out to observe the nature of the merchants. There were two men running the horses of the caravan, wearing a thick red beard. They had to come from the North, I thought, and then the caravan stopped in front of my house and assembled a sales counter. I went there to see the products on sale. What a bargain! These were alchemical ingredients. I discussed the prices to the merchants and was amazed by the aberrant prices of the products. A salamander shell in Valais 12,000 gold coins, that was not in my meagre budget. The reason for these awards was their provenance, they were collected in a magic hole that was filled with monsters and mysteries. This breach opened two years ago after a failed military experiment.

It was difficult to access, but not impossible. My next trip took shape, I would go in the breach to strengthen my alchemy skills! The gate was located in the rocky valleys of Lamaliam, 80 km from here. The journey was going to be long, I will have to rent a mount.

So I assembled the preparations to go to the breach and bought a map of the country. I displayed the map on a table in my living room to examine it: The country was divided into three, in relation to the faults that had opened up after the passage of the fluid ghosts. The area to the East was dominated by the "Time Crusaders" and presented a rocky terrain and difficult to access, their city was very advanced.

The area to the West was dominated by merchant guilds, there were many emerging cities and especially the "Palace of Auctions magia universalis". Finally, the geography heading north-east was mainly populated by peasants and some barons. Many stories were told on these lands, it was said that clouds of steam appeared and carried people away at any time or that strange noises could be heard in deep mines and near the ground of certain fields.

As for me, I was in the southwest of Lamaliam, a few kilometres from the coast. The route I have just drawn takes me through a major city, I could do business there, I thought. As well as a forest at the exit of my city. I shouldn't have too many difficulties on the way!
