Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - Heimerdinger

The group had arrived at academy near Stellar Street by carriage from the square.

As soon as they stopped at the gate of the academy, they saw that Jayce was greeting visiting guests.

Caitlyn waved at him, "Jayce!"

"Happy Progress Day, Councilor Kiramman, Mr. Tobias, Lilin and Caitlin, Professor Heimerdinger is waiting for you in the office."

Jayce made a gesture of invitation to the Kirammans, and then led the way.

Like the rest of the city, the campus of the Piltover University is lit up and decorated in preparation for the special occasion.

Whether it's students, businesspeople, apprentices, craftsmen, working-class citizens, or even rich people from Zaun, they all chose to visit the heart of Piltover's innnovation.

In the campus, all the guests who came to visit and to strolled around were dressed in decent and low-key festive outfits. They were all equipped and decorated with various delicate and small mechanical devices.

However, as a mechanic, Lilin can easily see that the hex-augmented prosthetics on most people are fake.

They just want to show off their status and wealth to ordinary citizens and laypeople.

Although, in the eyes of the mechanics and craftsmen who actually understand hextech, their behavior shows blatant foolishness.

Jayce led the four around the labyrinth that is Piltover University.

Eventually, they took a lift to the top of the academy.

Jayce knocked softly on an exquisite door. "Professor Heimerdinger, Councilor Kiramman is here."

"The door is unlocked, come in." A slightly sharp voice came from inside the room.

Jayce opened the door, and they followed him into the room.

Heimerdinger's office style perfectly matches Lilin's vision of the yordle.

There are small tables less than half a meter high, miniature chairs twenty or thirty centimeters, and various mechanical devices that are scaled down and suitable for their stature.

In this huge room, except for the rows of bookshelves that are stacked to the ceiling, everything is miniature.

It's like a giant has entered the country of small people, indeed a unique style.

Heimerdinger was sitting at the desk in the center of the room, looking down at something.

Under his chair, a furry poro wearing a monocle was lying on the ground, snoring with its tongue out, sleeping soundly.

Hearing the sound of the door, Heimerdinger looked up and smiled: "Happy Progress Day, Councilor Kiramman."

"You as well, Professor Heimerdinger." Cassandra smiled in return.

Jayce brought some chairs from another room and let them sit down.

Then, he took out a bottle of champagne and metal goblets of four sizes and one small from the cabinet, and served everyone.

"I received your sound transmission tube a few days ago. You said that you would recommend a young man to speak on stage this year..."

Cassandra held her wine glass and signalled to Lilin to him stand up.

"It's this Professor Heimerdinger, I don't think you've made his acquaintance?"

Heimerdinger squinted and looked at Lilin, then blew the thick white beard around his mouth, "Oh~ You are the young man who gave testimony at the council meeting that day, your name is Lilin, if I remembered it right?"

"That's right, Professor Heimerdinger." Lilin also gave him a quick glance and replied neither humble nor arrogantly.

Playing a yordle in the game is one thing, and seeing a yordle in real life is another.

Heimerdinger's eyes were full of curiousity, and he looked at Cassandra again, "I wonder why Councilor Kirammann has recommended him this to give a speech?"

"I mentioned to you before, there some new inventions from our Kiramman clan."

"Indeed, but you did not tell me too much." Heimerdinger remembered, and became interested.

"Dear." Cassandra gestured to her husband who was sitting beside her.

Tobias took out a small device the size of a palm, consisting of gears, magnets, bearings and copper wires, and a small light bulb from the satchel that he had been carrying with him, and gave them to Lilin.

Curiousity flashed in Heimerdinger's eyes.

"Professor Heimerdinger, allow me to demonstrate."

Lilin put down his glass, inserted the light bulb into the groove on the base, then grabbed the handle on the wheel and turned it gently.

At the same time, the small light bulb lit up with an unsteady glow.

Heimerdinger's eyes lit up, "This, this is a generator?"

"Yes, a hand-cranked generators, without a need for hex-batteries or hex crystals for power."

Lilin handed the crank generator to Heimerdinger, who was flabbergasted and excited.

"... a field is formed by a magnet, and the coil forms an electromotive force in the rotating magnetic field..." Heimerdinger's eyes lit up, "Oh, hoho! This is really a great invention!"

"Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction." Lilin added on the side.

"Electromagnetic induction... electromagnetic induction!" Heimerdinger's eyes widened, "If this generator is slightly improved, it can completely replace the devices that require hex crystals to provide energy today on a large scale!"

Cassandra smiled and said: "Yes, the generator can change the our reliance on hex crystals now, and its cost is lower than that of hex crystals... But improvement is not necessary."

Heimerdinger's pure white plush brows raised, "Why?"

"I have made upgraded versions already, some using wind energy, and some using hydro energy."

Lilin pieced together these non-existent terms from the Piltover language, but Heimerdinger understood what he meant.

"Tthe kinetic energy of wind and water, and the thermal energy of combustion that can be converted into electrical energy through mechanical devices..."

Heimerdinger jumped out of his chair, which woke the sleeping Poro.

He took small steps to Lilin's side and looked up at the young "little giant".

"My boy, your invention will be recorded in the history of Piltover." Heimerdinger stroked his beard, his voice trembling with excitement, "No... more than that, they will also make a statue for you. You will be the founder of a new age and be remembered by future generations!"

To put it simply. Kid, you're a mXXX genius!

Lilin scratched his head, a little embarrassed to be praised.

"Professor, please… we have more to show you." Cassandra said with a hint of smugness.

"Hmm!?" Heimerdinger gasped, "Is there an invention more important than a generator?"

"Of course."

Tobias took out an exquisite metal cipher box from the bag.

He quickly opened the box and pulled out a dull blue crystal.

"Isn't this... an exhausted hex crystal? It looks a bit different." Heimerdinger didn't understand Cassandra's intention.

"This is called a hextech gemstone, which is a new invention of Lilin and Jayce."

The smile on Cassandra's face has never disappeared, "It is an improved version of hex crystal. A technology that uses science to control magic, it is extremely stable, and the energy efficiency has been improved several folds..."

"Wait!" Before Cassandra finished, Heimerdinger's expression changed suddenly, and he asked in a shocked tone: "What do you mean... control magic!?"
